  1. You can have one elite player and two rookies, or three mediocre to decent free agents. By the end of the deal, two mediocre free agents or one good one. Is a team really better off signing three mediocre players? I don't know, but I'd guess not.
  2. Which will be cancelled with two episodes to go for tax reasons.....
  3. You can have one elite player and two rookies, or three ok to mediocre free agents. That's the calculation you need to make. Also, no one is saying build the team with free agents.... No one. We are saying supplement the team you've built in trades and drafting.
  4. Two years ago, you said the Twins should sign a top pitcher. This year you said they should sign a top pitcher or SS. You've already said they should sign a top pitcher next year. I'm not sure where we disagree.
  5. The back end will be the cost of one good free agent by the time it comes. That's so far off, we have no idea if one good free agent will matter or not.
  6. Thanks! I really do appreciate you coming here. I bet people would read whatever history you could give..... If we could find a way to be polite.
  7. hahahahahahahaha. Good one. Tough questions. I am still laughing.
  8. My pivot is to deal Kepler and Polanco and Maeda and Mahle and sign Gray to an extension. Punt this year, and give the youth the team and see who sinks or swims. Martin in LF or 2B (and backup CF). Wallner in RF or DH. Larnach in LF or RF. Lewis up as soon as he's healthy to play SS. Kiriloff to 1B. Maybe even Julien at 2B or RF or DH or first (if AK is hurt). But, please, pick a position for Julien and Martin and stick them there even if they are in AAA. Put Lee at 3B or 2B or RF. Be ready to promote him like ATL did with their top people last year. I also consider moving Duran to SP, since they've shown they won't even sign second tier FAs......
  9. Also, how many playoff games has this org won in the last 30 years? Is this approach working?
  10. If you won't sign big time FAs (or even second tier ones like Bassit)....and you keep trading prospects, how do you plan to have long term, sustained, success without prospects because you keep trading them instead of spending money.
  11. Uh, he signed for a lot more than that already....
  12. They can compete for the second tier players. Unfortunately, most of those are now gone also....while they waited on CC? I'm not sure what the deal is. They also passed on the second tier of FAs last year, so maybe it isn't about CC....but signing only inexpensive players in FA, then dealing prospects every spring (they are going to run out of prospects if this is the plan).
  13. Also, it is great Jack came here and did this. Really.
  14. That's my point.....wouldn't you rather have CC and three rookies?
  15. Agreed....but they didn't. They passed on nearly every guy in the second tier of FA.
  16. So, gut the fam system more to trade for players instead of signing FAs just for money? That will leave how many good to great prospects in the system? Not enough to build a long term, sustainable, winning team. CC cost a lot.....but the alternative ways to spend that money are to sign 2 ok to good FAs or 3 bad FAs. And that's at current year prices.....that 29MM is going to get you one or maybe two ok FAs by the end of that deal. Oh, and they passed on every FA in the next tier as well.....so, now what is left? How many FAs left are really better than what is on the roster?
  17. This. To be clear, I think there was no way he came to MN.
  18. I have zero interest in Chapman. If they sign him, I hope he loses every game he pitches.
  19. Move onto what? Tier 3 level FAs? Are those actually better than what is on the roster?
  20. any year apparently, not to a long term deal. And, they passed on all the ST deals this year for great players.....
  21. Shocker. Truly shocking the Twins aren't signing one elite FA. Onto the next level (most of whom are gone), then to level three FAs....yay! You can have CC for ten years (5-7 good ones and 3-5 ok ones and nothing in years 11-13) and no good FA in year 11=13....or you can have three ok to bad FAs. Which would you rather have? Because 35MM a year is three ok to bad FAs right now, and likely one good to great FA in 11 years.....I know what I'd rather have. Because ok FAs aren't much better than the guys in the minors....
  22. Well, if you figure that the contract adds no value in years 11-13....you are giving up one average FA in those years....would you rather have CC for 10 years and lose out on a Gray level FA for years 11-13.....or have three mediocre to ok FAs for the next 13 years.
  23. It's only going to cost more next year and the years after.
  24. Would you rather have ten good to elite years of CC and not signing a Gray level free agent in years 11-13 .....or have two or three second and third tier free agents every year? This appears to be your choices if you won't sign elite players.
