  1. bummer for them......
  2. How much would Martin need to dominate, and how bad would Gordon have to be to take the leap? That's the concern for me....teams tend to be risk adverse and keep mediocre vets around while AAA guys play well (note, I actually like Gordon, this isn't about Gordon). And, I started that with "IF he's better than Martin".....
  3. I understand that....my concern is that Nick Gordon will be mediocre, and keep his job no matter how Martin plays....until one of them is hurt. As for your earlier post, he might not be better than Gordon, I get that. This constant fear that many here have of mediocre players getting hurt, the AAA guy coming up and getting hurt, then having bad players play is something I don't agree with, but understand that I'm less risk adverse than many...
  4. do you think an extra 8 at bats a week and 4 plays or less a week really matters to his development? It might, I don't really know....but I love his speed and base stealing and think he'd be a real asset to the team (assuming health) right now.
  5. I admit to being shocked he's this highly rated at this point (not that I disagree).
  6. I've never understood this for a 24 year old....if he's better then Gordon, he should be up contributing for 3-4 games a week. That's way more valuable to the team than keeping him in AAA so he can get 8-12 more at bats a week. I'm a believer when he's healthy. Let's hope this is that year.
  7. I doubt anyone will be the best hitter around for 2-3 weeks, then be pretty much awful the rest of the year......the question is, will he really be better than guys in AAA, that would have allowed them to invest the money elsewhere?
  8. Attendance is largely driven by previous year's record, since season tickets sales are driven by that, as well as the first 2-3 months.....we should expect it to be better this year. Not sure it will be, but that's how the cycle generally works. It won't help that immediately after being good, they said they were cutting payroll .....that won't sit well with the fans.
  9. I agree that prices are too high, but that has nothing to do with what Tampa is doing......It really has little impact on player pay either, as most of the money comes from tv and radio and other things.....not that ticket sales don't matter, but salaries aren't driving ticket prices up.
  10. I wish he'd been the Vikings DC all those years, with a different HC. That would have been great.
  11. If you like to root for smart, ridiculously profitable teams for that reason, good for you. But let's not pretend they are good for the sport. They take money from other teams and pocket it, never spending more to get over the top. Imagine how good they could be if they spent even close to what other teams spend.
  12. I like the depth more than last year.....but I can't see it being the best pen in the business. I do love the top 2-4 guys though.
  13. I don't love this year, but they aren't Tampa, not close. Not in terms of spending.
  14. I could see trading Julien for an elite pitcher with a few years of control, given they have Gordon and Lee.... But I'd be holding my breath the whole time.
  15. My disappointment is that they don't invest at moments like this, when they are super competitive. But they have no issue pocketing more profit in cheap years. I understand why that happens, doesn't mean I have to like it. I would have preferred a different path this year, investing in a very good starting pitcher, rather than a bunch of over 35 RPs and hitter. And then trusting their development staff to fill in the back of the roster. We'll see if they trade for a starter or not. That would be great.
  16. Tampa should be embarrassed. They take money from other teams and pocket it, never trying to get over the hump. Why any fan would root for teams to under pay players so billionaires can have more money is mind boggling.
  17. He starts in high A, right? He's an exciting prospect for sure.
  18. Jeffers put up the 8th highest WAR among catchers last year (while playing less than most starters), and he's easily replaced and has shown he can't handle catching? Julien is in the top 10 of 2B if he plays 140 games. And you're just going to give that up and replace him with whom? I just don't understand where you are coming from.
  19. 80-90 is my range right now. I like the floor a lot, not so much the ceiling.
  20. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/ben-clemens-fangraphs-chat-2-5-24/ Guest: Twins fans everywhere super excited to see the promise to reinvest the Polanco savings has netted them….a 37 year old DH 2:25 Ben Clemens: Given the size of the savings, I’m not sure what you expected Ben Clemens: That said, I think it’s a pretty smart move Ben Clemens: The Twins do not spend as much as I’d like them to Ben Clemens: but I feel like few teams do a better job of winning trades without donig the whole ‘we’ll trade you a quarter today for four dime-level prospects’ deal where you can’t help but win Ben Clemens: and I think that they also do a good job of then integrating those trades into their team Ben Clemens: I like where they’re headed basically K DOT: All of what you said about the Twins makes it even more infuriating that they don’t spend Ben Clemens: Oh totally
  21. He literally has an article every year on guys he was wrong on.....so, I have no idea what you are saying.
  22. People think so little of the AAA talent they don't think anyone can hit league average? Yikes.
  23. How do these guys get opportunities if the veterans are mediocre (not even bad, just 'meh")? They just don't, they sit in AAA. Really, if they sign a veteran and he's ok, they aren't dumping him to the DFA pile for a rookie. That's not their MO at all.
