    No. If he's the player he was in teh 2nd half (and he's betting on it), it's over 25 million a year. If he's not that guy, I don't think they can afford to pay him, CC, Buxton, Lopez and add anyone new next year (or at the break this year). This team needs a front end type starter, why they would spend real money on an OF that is over 30 given their self imposed constraints seems odd to me.

    Why? I mean, Farmer is the perfect backup for this roster. And Vasquez had his worst year last year, so he's likely to be better (I think). Who is the backup SS here, who plays when CC gets a day off?

    I sure hope so, because he's blocking AAA players with upside....and this team has a tendency to keep veterans around (good thing Polanco got hurt twice last year, so Julien got promoted, and OFers were hurt so Wallner got promoted). My issue is the lack of options at the end of the bench. Castro is it at the end of the bench. Everyone else would need to be DFA/traded for a young guy to come up and stay up.

    Gast has a thing about Jeffers and Julien, no idea why....but they really don't like those two. They also think the FO should be fired after taking the team further in the post season than they've been in decades.... But yes, no way you deal Jeffers right now (or Julien for that matter).

    Part of me is like "this isn't enough for Burnes." The other part is "that's a lot for 1 year of Burnes." Must be a fair deal. I think the Twins could offer more, and not offer Lee, but I'm not sure.....and really, if it is Lee and Raya/Festa, I think it's too much for 1 year. That's the key here, IMO, to the price....the 1 year. However, in context of where the O's are, and their major and minor league talent, it is a great deal for them. Wouldn't make it a great deal for other teams, as that context matters..... I don't totally get this and signing Hoskins, but I'm not GM....

    I have doubts about HS pitchers, everyone should. I'm a bit surprised they picked him here, and not later given that. But, he's got the stuff and size to be very good if he works out. I mean, if this was an IFA, he'd have been the highest paid guy for sure......so maybe it makes more sense in that context. Either way, he's an exciting pick.
