  1. I literally talk about drafting better being needed, follow the minor league report, and beg them to trust the guys they develop over veterans every year. So I have no idea what you are talking about.
  2. staggeringly unreal. Has anyone posted negative 6.4 WAR before? Wowsers.
  3. You negotiate what both sides feel is a fair deal, before anyone plays....there is zero pay for performance in pro sports beyond small tiny bonuses. That's how it works. Sometimes it works for one side or the other....or for both sides. Just like any other transaction.
  4. People say it can be worse with a random minor leaguer in place of Santana, but can it, really? It's hard to see how.
  5. The drop off from Lewis to Farmer is even bigger than I feared somehow.....
  6. On the plus side, we aren't Houston fans (not sure who will win more, but they had higher expectations).
  7. Every player's thought (except Santana, clearly).
  8. Either there are no guarantees, or there are. It is completely unfair to one side to have all the power, I'm not being obstinate at all. I'm being serious. If teams can not pay players, players should also be free to leave and go someplace else. It's a stupid idea, which I rarely say on line anymore, but his idea is bad, bad, bad for players.
  9. The post I responded to said no guaranteed contacts because players that play badly shouldn't get paid. In that situation, players that play well should be able to void their deal any time and sign with whomever they want, whenever they want. Just like every other employee in the US. No guarantees on one side means no guarantees on the other.
  10. So players can opt out any time and be free agents, any time? What's good for one is good for other
  11. Fair! I have, and very few if any contenders are deep in pitching anyone here would love to have from top to AAA.
  12. Yes and no. I think they also rolled the dice on descafalini, for some reason I can't understand.
  13. I never said it worked all the time. People here are asking the twins to have depth, pointing out a team with a guy in AAA when they don't have guys in the majors doesn't help their argument that other good teams have depth. Sorry that wasn't clear. I thought I was, but clearly not. I don't have to be excited about guys to prefer them over bad veterans....I don't want bad veterans, period. I'd rather roll the dice on severino, who does not excite me, than have Santana. Are you arguing at the end that I shouldn't expect more than one player?
  14. They got other players too ... They didn't give him away. Not saying I liked the idea, but they got more value back, theoretically, than they gave up, by value of prospects.
  15. Rocco barely played him the last two months, but he took a roster spot.
  16. Pittsburgh doesn't have four legit MLB starters, they don't have depth.
  17. Multiple? People here are seeing they need two to three guys in AAA ready to start. One? Sure, that's realistic for some teams, but an awful lot of teams don't even have four legit starters in the majors. We'll disagree on what's realistic, I'm ok with that. That's not unusual for me here.
  18. I'm afraid that's not the lesson he'll learn..... But I share your sentiment. It's another reason to go young this year, to weed out guys and get others experience.
  19. Holding down skenes for an extra year of control might cost them a chance at the division this year. It better work better than it did with Strasburg, because it cost the nationals that first year. Plus, skenes is healthy and better than nearly all their pitchers right now.
  20. I think it's reasonable, I don't think as many teams succeed as people think. Twins are already down two, and are bringing up a guy many here believe in. How deep do you realistically expect them to be? Not that I'm defending the trade with Seattle as their only move....
  21. Show me the teams with AAA pitchers that you expect to be better than back end. That's all I'm asking. There aren't many, any, when I look.
  22. I'm not relitigating things in the past. The question is, what now? Feel free if you want to mention polanco.
