  1. We've reached the basic crux of our disagreement! I can't only look at this year. I am sympathetic to your argument that rebuilds don't work, but neither does standing still. The only thing that works, and it's no guarantee, is spending lots of money. There's been outliers, sure, but they are outliers. I think Milwaukee, Tampa, and to a lesser extent Cleveland have it right. Bail a year too early on most players, have depth in pitching, get lucky. My example is Kepler. They should have dealt him a year early.
  2. That would not surprise me. And yet, it hasn't happened and we have three catchers and Gray.....
  3. I had been predicting that for two weeks. Guess I was wrong, shocker.
  4. Like, people wanted to trade for Kepler....and people here were adamant that was a bad idea......that's 100% how Milwaukee and TB and CLE have gotten to be so successful so long. They deal guys like Larnach and Jeffers (before the year starts).
  5. The Mets and Giants realized their position, and acted accordingly. CLE and both CHI teams definitely pushed their opponents to act.
  6. Baltimore had a great deadline. Rautschmann is always hurt, and they got a likely number 2/3 starter and 4 other prospects for him. Those guys can be dealt, if wanted, because 2 of them have real value.
  7. Bradley says hi. As do Tait and Abel. Trading RPs in a lost year is 100% the right thing to do. This team would be better had they done more trading in previous lost years, imo. No one is a fan of the Varland trade, other than BJs and their fans.
  8. I'm with you, but I'm neither surprised or angry at what they did instead. I pretty much expected this, and decided not to care unless they did something stupid.
  9. And Gray. They are 2 spots short on the bench, again, this year. Over and over.
  10. Larnach to DH. Keaschell subs for Buxton every few days, and PHs and PHs runs at times. I bet Buxton is fully healthy for less than half the remaining games. The question is, how many games do they carry him while he's not healthy. I bring up Jenkins, but I think they wait 2 weeks, then it depends on what the record is.
  11. If they are up before about mid-August, the likely lose rookie status next year, and would lose that extra year of control. If they are on the 40 man this year, and there is a lockout, they cannot play/practice next year in the minors.
  12. You're saying the oldest hitter on the team was pressing? I would hope not.
  13. And dropping. They had an unsustainable BA with RISP. edit: ninja'd
  14. So, like 2 or 3 rookies on the whole team? And 3 catchers, 2 DH, and Gray......and people love Zoll?
  15. We can HOPE there is a team sale.....
  16. I concur. And I'd have traded Jeffers. He's going to play how many games the rest of the way? Again, I'm not the owner/GM worried about attendance this year and early next......
  17. I'm with you. And, Caratini isn't worth 7MM to a team that doesn't spend money. I cannot believe he's not a Yankee right now.
  18. I think the hope is about how they play this year....not who they acquired. That, and they didn't sell, which will look good to most fans. The number 1 predictor of ticket sales is the prior year result......
  19. they will miraculously be ready just after it is almost impossible to lose rookie eligibility. Or, not at all, if they really fear the lockout will last long. I hope to be wrong.
  20. Most RPs are volatile. It is why they are the best players to trade away. But, he's been good overall this year.
