  1. Derp* forgot about Willingham when I typed my comment. I will be lobbying for a Kubel/Willingham platoon when he returns so in my little thought world Willingham is not a key contributor anyway.
  2. This is not directed to anyone specific, but back to Ashbury's point (somewhere in the threads): the 40 man roster is plenty big enough to deal with injury contingencies. "Injuries" is not some exotic thing that suddenly started happening to the Twins and Twins only. In fact, the Twins are probably among the healthiest teams in the league. Their starting lineup has remained intact all year. Only the 7-8 holes (center field & Arcia) have really been affected and none of their key pitchers yet. It would really be questionable to pin this roster mismanagement on injuries.
  3. As of tonight Kubel is hitting .268 with 1 homer and on pace to strike out 200 times.
  4. I agree with just about every word. Welcome to the conversation - looks like you've been a member since 2012 but finally now moved to speak.
  5. The radio guys just said Mauer has done some workouts. General soreness is the reason he is out of the lineup today.
  6. Yes. Not fair to Twins fans, and just as importantly, not fair to Escobar.
  7. Its the a's and z's in the name. your welcome.
  8. There are some eye opening similarities between Torii Hunter and Chris Parmelee in their minor league and early pro development. One big difference being that Torii was playing full time by now, same position, day in day out.
  9. I've never, ever caught TK on his good days, whether Twins broadcasts, his old radio shows, whatever. Apparently when he's on, he's on. But more often than not he's the bored grumbler stating the obvious. I did catch the TK ceremony in 2012 though and it was pretty darn good and a great show of taste for him to invite his entire neighborhood with him (and for the Twins to let him).
  10. What does the common wisdom say for the peak hitting age for baseball players? 27-32? 25-29? How many outfielders on the Twins 40-man roster fall within those age ranges?
  11. Wow Kirby, old data presented in a new way can be quite a wake up.
  12. Glad to see I am on the same page as you Nick.
  13. For a brief moment in time, Herrmann made sense. But that moment has passed. Also, quit carrying 12, 13, 14, 15 pitchers, or whatever they are at now. Ryan hired a bunch of vet starting pitchers to pitch deeper into games right? With a 11 or 12 man staff Herrmann is a 25th man who plays once or twice a week as a late inning guy instead of starting every night.
  14. Apparently not a single Viking fan commented on this paragraph tonight..
  15. It's not like Herrmann can't catch a fly ball--- oh wait
  16. The killer rabbit might also make an appearance for you
  17. Games like last night are 11-dimensional chess matches.. I predict we win tonight on a Pinto squeeze bunt that scores Florimon..
  18. Tallest lead off batter in history? Why not?
  19. Actually Kirby I think you nailed it. Though if he had been this hot as a part timer or bench bat, there would have been pressure to play him full time eventually.
  20. No question this could be a crucial moment. Danny Haren said it in the Dodgers series: the way you pitch to these guys is throw the first pitch strike. So we need to adjust before these mini-slumps become something more serious. Mauer is a two strike hitter but I'm not sure Plouffe or Colabello have it in them. I don't think this is a fluke -- I think these guys are having good at bats and figured out how to do that. But nothing is guaranteed. Hopefully at some future date we're not looking back fondly on those "three weeks in April" as some golden moment.
  21. Just found out that Gardy was Wired for Sound!™1 in the top of the 7th inning last night. Here is a rush transcript of what was said: [after Pinto doubles with two outs] Gardy: Hey Danny, get your helmet. Santana: Me, coach? Gardy: Yeah grab your helmet and come here. [santana grabs his helmet and comes here]. Gardy: It's the very end of the game and I'm playing my moves, laying my cards down. Here's what I want you to do. Are you listening? Santana: Yes, coach! Gardy: Good. I want you to go out there and pinch run, and do two things for me. Number 1, don't get picked off. And Number 2, don't hurt yourself jogging back to the dugout after Herrmann makes the third out. Think you can do that? Santana: Sure thing! Gardy: Great, now go get after it.. 1. PS I have no idea if Wired for Sound is trademarked. If not, someone should go get after it
  22. Yeah that one.. I'm not calling the Twins walk-taking ability a fluke (I think it's for real) but what if that inning had gone 1-2-3, what would the season projection look like then?
  23. On the other hand, this too. But it's worth discussing!
