  1. Crawford is a solid board tonight, my god. Not looking good heading into OT
  2. Antony was probably speaking informally, but words do matter.
  3. Success has a thousand fathers; failure is an orphan.
  4. Yep. Off season is the time to do it. I'm on board. Dozier doesn't seem like the greedy type but don't know if Wolfson mentioned who his agent is.
  5. Surely the Twins considered that Kubel has had knee and leg injuries when they tenured him a position on the 25 man roster. (To Kubel's credit, he's done ok out in left.)
  6. I think he's worth keeping here instead of sending him down. With guys getting healthy and Parms in right, Colabello can get some much needed bench time.
  7. I agree with the first part about Worley. The second part can be argued. I think it's been just the opposite here lately. Bruno seems to be an asset. Dozier credits him for his power stroke. Twins are taking great quantities of bases on balls which have led to some game-making rallies. Bruno never struck me as a keen baseball intellect but if he's able to connect with the players, all the better. Gardy and Andy are past their freshness date. Those guys are in their 13th year and that was the year Ryan said he burned out and thus retired. It didn't surprise me that they were unable to get through to Worley though like you said, I think Worley himself was the problem.. Hoping Bruno can get these guys (Plouffe Kubel Cola) hitting again quick though.
  8. You are right. Other than that one game, he's been doing a pretty good job in the field.
  9. Unbelievably, Chris Parmelee is the only outfielder on the 40 man roster who is between the ages 24-32, peak hitting years. (Kubel actually turns 32 in two weeks but no longer can perform anywhere near peak). Parmelee must be allowed to play RF regularly. Both for development reasons and because he's among our best options.
  10. I do agree. Maybe Colabello in right, Mauer at first, Parmelee in left, Nunez as DH, would have been better positions here.
  11. Thanks jorgenswest for putting this together. Like Sconnie said, a case might be made for any one of those guys in isolation. Now step back and consider that all three of them together were essentially promised a spot on the team, regardless of their spring training performance (or, non performance) or regardless of what if anything they had to contribute.
  12. Thou shalt not throw in excess of 100 stones, lest ye be unable to throw stones again on your fifth day. - the Book of Rick
  13. For a moment I thought you were blaming Kubel's strikeouts on the umpires but now I realize you are diagnosing a medical condition instead
  14. I wasn't exactly in favor of bringing Kubel aboard but I'm pulling for him. He did say he had a lot of baseball left in him, so I'm not completely buying the weak legs excuse that I'm starting to hear. We're only in May! I do think he should get the occasional day off though.
  15. I am not excusing the Pohlads and Ryan did fail in his short time to assemble a competitive team around what remained of the Puckett / Knoblauch core. But he did eventually assemble a durable core of young guys who were winners. This is not a market that demands sports dynasties which worked in Pohlad's and Ryan's favor. But Ryan can be faulted today for his breezy dismissals of any criticism of how the team is being run, yes.
  16. Pseudo, I think you are really over-sentimentalizing this. Substitute "familial" and "kinship" for "country club" and you are getting much closer to a better characterization for many of us. A former player who is still active who speaks well of a former team is not noteworthy. Also, I think it's early to describe the current clubhouse culture as resulting in a "payoff of more wins" if I read that correctly.
  17. I think you and dwintheiser are overstating the nostalgia element of the Molitor / Winfield / Steinbach signings. Those guys were still ball players. I don't recall any of the three being teammates like Kubel, Bartlett, Guerrier this year, not to mention the apparently aggressive attempts to sign Pierzynski and Garza, two guys who went elsewhere but can actually still play. The late 90s was a different situation. Low stadium revenues but more of a willingness in those final years for developing young talent because that's the right thing to do. The 1999-2001 teams finally matured. Ryan was GM. What's happening 2012-2014 teams feels completely different to me.
  18. There are 2 kinds of moderators: Ones who are... wait, do you really want me to keep going?
  19. 2-1 over Verlander and the Tigers --- I feel like we're starting to play real baseball games again!
  20. Another thing to say, to the guy with no shoes?
  21. Has Santana hit anything other than a scalding line drive since he's been up?
  22. I always wanted to see Cuddy do that..
  23. Pssst.. Lets all agree that the past few days never happened
