  1. True. It appears the Nationals are interested in Don Mattingly. Ultimately, any organization is going to hire a guy they are comfortable with, whether he is the best choice or not. Once again, postseason records and starting pitching. If you are the kind of organization who feels that Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw are basically as good as Brian Duensing and Carl Pavano, then you might be interested in Mattingly over Gardenhire.
  2. Didn't find a link for that bit of information. Gardy's interview is next week, last I heard.
  3. Gant made funny steps but there was no tag in between steps and if Hrbek didn't get low and lift him, Gant would have easily kept his foot on the base.
  4. Dumb question. Can the Twins rework Mauer's contract? Maybe instead of his 23,23,23,0,0,0,0.., Mauer might agree to something like 18,13,8,3,3,3,3,3,3,... This gives the team payroll flexibility, and gives Mauer more flexibility should he decide to retire or take a reduced role at some point before (or after) the hard 2018 date.
  5. Ryan stepped in it when he said Mauer can hit .300 next year. What if he doesn't?
  6. I think politicians should use aliases. If someone named raptor53 were running for president in 2016, I'd probably vote for them instead.
  7. Mostly concur on the second point. On the first point, the Twins, for the first time in the Terry Ryan II era, now have a surplus of major league talent. They don't have room to play everyone. Ryan needs to be making trades or otherwise get creative somehow.
  8. Any explanations or ideas for why it drew so well or if that number is inflated?
  9. Colin Powell used private email in state matters. Right? What gives?
  10. Since he is GM, he gets that opportunity every day
  11. Good catch. That might actually be a good idea for the Twins, to find a starting pitcher willing to pinch run for a DH (for example, Sano's DH-ing with a bad hammy). Situation depending, of course. That way you don't commit a Nunez or Santana to PR then possibly meet a poor matchup later in game, causing you to lose an out to a poor match up, or lose the player to a pinch hitter.
  12. Nationals to interview Baker-Black-Gardy troika https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/nationals-journal/wp/2015/10/14/nationals-to-interview-dusty-baker-ron-gardenhire/ I still think Gardy is the best option for that team. He wore out his welcome here several years ago, but he's got that in-your-face player's manager sort of personality and the physical presence to back it up, not to mention the experience. He's dealt with a team consisting of Torii, AJ, and Meintkeiwcz on it, all who are your Type A's Type A. Gardy only won 1 playoff series, but you know, Stephen Strasburg and Max Scherzer are, by some metrics, slightly better options than Carlos Silva and Brian Duensing. Gardy might have to bend a little from certain things he did here. He should know that. Then there's Dusty Baker, he had a good run but he's done. Anyone know anything about Bud Black? I just don't see why he's such a media darling. Another dark horse would be Billy Gardner Jr who is the Nats AAA manager but again, they need someone from the outside who no one already knows what buttons to push. Gardy will not let anyone push his buttons.
  13. Being from Germany, if Max Kepler ever hits a game winning HR for the Twins, I predict he will emotionlessly set his bat in the dirt away from the plate and them run in straight line 90 degree angles to each base, instead of taking the nice arc around them that everyone else does.
  14. Came up big in a big moment.
  15. teams are allowed to do that?
  16. My favorite part is the third base cameraman trying to track the left fielders throw. Throw to second...derp, nobody at second...keep scanning....there's the second baseman...he's not doing anything...where's the throw going?....keep scanning...
  17. The worst part of the NL west is competing against the Dodgers and Giants every year.
  18. Detroit will regret bringing Ausmus back but I think it's too big a risk to sit out another season and hope that Detroit job opens back up (I believe the rumors that Gardy was headed there until Avila suddenly changed his mind). I want Gardy to go to Washington. But San Diego might move fast and make him an offer.
  19. Good question. You could easily see Hicks becoming a steadier presence now that the worst is behind him, or after going into a slump he might completely lose interest again. Maybe platooning is the right balance.
  20. Arcia actually plays better in right field. He makes the running or sliding catch towards the foul line better than Hunter, though probably not an overall defensive upgrade over Hunter. I mean Hicks.
  21. Next season I expect to see guys like Pressley, Meyer, and Burdi, get significant opportunities, and hopefully we will get caught up with the rest of the league.
  22. I'll play against you
  23. Not sure why you keep posting this question! Twins pitchers all season long talked about how the organization wants them to use six pitches to get two ground outs, instead of six pitches to get one strikeout. So much more efficient that way! It is a fine, fine idea which is completely removed from reality, because Twins pitchers do not have velocity, their pitches are easier to foul off or take for balls, so the end result is they one groundout on six pitches. EDIT yes I realize the average pitches per plate appearance is closer to 4, but I'm just reporting what guys like Gibson and Perkins have been saying. Also, I think pitching is more of a head game than numbers game, see: King Felix, etc, but that's just me.
