  1. Wells has made four starts now since coming off the Disabled List back on May 31. In these four starts, he has pitched 25.0 innings, given up 11 hits, 4 walks, and struck out 35 batters, for a Scherzer-ian K/9 rate of 13.7, and a Chapman-ian K% rate of 42.2% Because of a minor biceps injury, Wells was passed over for the Midwest League all star game. link to Fangraphs game logs here
  2. Beeker pitched 2/3 of an inning in the Midwest League All Star game, allowing a line drive double and two ground ball outs to three batters. He is scheduled to resume his spot in the Cedar Rapids rotation Sunday June 25.
  3. Beeker started June 15 in Quad Cities in a 5-4 loss. His line: 4.2 IP, 8 hits, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO Beeker was at 102 pitches when he was removed.
  4. Perhaps sunshine is the yet-undiscovered sixth stage of grief* *Elisabeth Cobbler-Ross
  5. Sure, but what have you noticed about his infield fly rate?
  6. ^^ this prospect excites me tons if he can stay healthy (he is 6'-8").. call it a good feeling
  7. Posters still talk about rebuilding, and then talk about being a couple pitchers away. Well, go get that next starter, maybe some guy on the outs in another organization. The scouts and insiders probably know some names. Then, find another guy for the relief corps, whether from the outside, or Hughes, Gibson, or one of these AAA starters whose stuff might play better in the bullpen. It might not work for this year, but at least you tried. It doesn't have to be a multi-year process. It doesn't have to interfere with the long term vision the front office has. Two more guys. Rebuild complete. Pennant chase is on.
  8. Went back and listened again. It was a little more nuanced. Full speed ahead! * *likely to second place in the ALCentral and wild card contention
  9. My issue is if they "wait and see" for another month, they will surely fall out of the race. The decade of dominance from 2001-2010 was nice, but there are no guarantees that will ever happen again. You play the hand you are dealt. The Twins still have a reasonable shot at the post-season this year. The "do nothing" option is to patch it together for another week or so, and then hope Santiago comes back fresh and performs like he did in his first half-dozen starts. It's possible, but not awe inspiring.
  10. Help them do what, exactly? Help them to an above .500 record in mid-June so that you can demand they be sellers again? I'm honestly trying to figure out the logic here.
  11. You have all been proven right. Congratulations!
  12. I hope you are right! You might be. I might have woke on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
  13. Well he didn't quite come out and say it, but, yeah he pretty much said it. That's how I heard it, anyway. Maybe I'm being overly sensitive with other things going on. Anyway, people might podcast it and decide for themselves. Maybe we'll set up a new thread. Back to the Sonny Gray topic: I still think the Twins need to trade for an MLB starting pitcher. Trading away starting pitching to improve starting pitching makes no sense. They need pitching and there is none in the system in the high minors.
  14. Sounded like the plan of the Front Office is to add more prospects around the trade deadline.
  15. Well this conversation is moot. Anyone else hear Tad Levine's interview with Cory Provus?
  16. More importantly to me, the moment the Twins acquire another good, dependable starter, all stats are in the past and all teams start again at zero going forward. (Not sure I worded that well.) Another good starter would also allow the Twins to better utilize their bullpen, instead of this constant need to bail water with these daily roster moves.
  17. It's reasonable to think that, but the optimist in me says Santana will continue with his career year, and that Berrios is really this good all or most the time.
  18. Well, I agree. They have three rotation spots that are black holes, and the other two spots are occupied by guys pitching like Cy Young candidates. The addition of even one reliable starter would do wonders.
  19. As you point out, this was not a complicated matter of reshuffling the starting rotation, but simply keeping guys on a days' rest schedule instead of a turn in the rotation schedule. Looking at it this way, keeping Santana on those four days rest would also have lined him up for the start on that final Sunday, July 9, before the All Star break. The Twins might still consider asking Santana to start that final Sunday on three days rest so that he doesn't have to pitch or even think about preparing to pitch in the All Star game (assuming he is selected).
  20. If not Gray, then some other starter. Trade a couple of prospects. We just drafted some new ones.
  21. I'm just sitting here / watching the wheels fly off and off
  22. Falvey needs to stop sitting on his hands and do something. Enough.
  23. I refuse to wait another 80+ seasons for this so-called window of contention.
