  1. Molitor 1, second-guessers 0 * if the scoring started today
  2. Molitor has never shied away from a game of chicken http://www.messengerpuppet.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/57297_10150090232411760_42790106759_7697038_2801237_o-640x394.jpg
  3. Thankfully the first three were pretty boring
  4. Good lord. That looked like me in little league.

  6. I am trying to imagine how that "give up on winning" locker room speech would go. Or the "Erv, you're traded -- no not yet, but keep your bags packed. Oh and good game last night." I don't imagine the players would appreciate either message.
  7. Agree nick. Can't imagine there would be a better time than now to see how he does.
  8. I tried quantifying MLB drafts a couple years ago, but gave up early. Glad to know that a staff writer for Fangraphs also tried and failed, too. For example, Sullivan mentions Ben Zobrist. Zobrist earned most of his WAR for the Tampa Bay Rays, but won a World Series with the Royals, and then another with the Cubs. But he was drafted by Houston, so Houston gets all the credit for Zobrist in Sullivan's study. It's a really, really difficult task to quantify drafts in whole, or to separate drafting from development. Glad to see people keep trying. Someone will eventually hit on an idea of how to make sense of this.
  9. Looks good - I could have that every night
  10. Where's that British guy who just showed up? Someone should let him know.
  11. Beginning to see why Kepler is often platooned versus lefties http://38.media.tumblr.com/92e9e8569a067bd9ffdc615ad59af1c1/tumblr_n7d1zhrD791smcbm7o1_500.gif
  12. Rzepczynski in to pitch Bert: "Just call him Scrabble" Drink!
  13. Seems Gibby pitched well. Now it gets ... fun?
  14. Tyler Wells was activated from the Disabled List on May 31, and pitched 4 innings against Quad Cities. Wells's line: 4 IP, 1 hit, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 SO Yes you read that right, 10 strikeouts in four innings. The Twins Daily game wrap and discussion linked here. Catcher Ben Rortvedt got assists on three of those strikeouts, indicating swings and misses at balls in the dirt. Is Wells stuff that good? However, Wells committed a balk and threw two wild pitches. Still knocking off some rust?
  15. Poppen pitched in a June 7 loss to Clinton. 4.2 IP, 6 hits, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO At first glance, it appears not to be Poppen's finest outing. However, according to the MiLB game log, in the 22 batters Poppen faced, only three balls were hit in the air: a line drive single in the 3rd, a fly ball triple in the 4th, and a pop out in the 5th. The result was that Poppen's Groundout-Flyout ratio was 10:0 for the game. Earlier in the afternoon, it was announced that Poppen had been chosen for the Midwest League All Star Game. Congrats to him!
  16. Poppen was the starting pitcher June 1st in a 11-1 victory over Quad Cities. Poppen's line: 6.1 IP, 5 hits, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO Poppen retired nine straight in the middle innings. The run off of Poppen came in the seventh, and was unearned. He was at 97 pitches.
