  1. I do like that the Twins seem to have their own list. However when every pick offers the promise of saving signing money, it's a little suspicious. That screams Pohlad.
  2. Probably been said somewhere, but the Twins also drafted Rooker in last years draft. 38th round. Twins scouts say he fills out a nice pair of jeans? edit: he did have a monster season
  3. Any single pick is ok, but combined, this looks a lot like a draft from the 2010 through 2015 years.
  4. So do they all take a potty break before the second round starts?
  5. For the long travel day. He is available if necessary.
  6. Now that the draft is wrapping up, can Falvey and Levine check back in on the state of our current pitching staff?
  7. Yeah I have some grumpy old man in me. These spoiled kids complaining about being drafted into MLB (first round, no less) don't get any sympathy from me. Glad the Twins don't have him.
  8. There were no true 1-1 pitcher guys this draft. Is that correct?
  9. "What do the Cubs Know, that the Rest of Us Don't", Part Infinity
  10. It will be very intriguing to break down those two later picks, especially if they are college pitchers.
  11. Good point. To follow that: In the very small sample of college starting pitchers drafted at the very top (top 3 or higher) in the past dozen years, I think it shows a slightly more favorable trend for those who sign late and rest their arms for the rest of the year. Signed and rested their arms for year: Price, Cole, Verlander, Hultzen, Humber Directly to minor leagues to pitch: Appel, Reynolds, Gray, Bauer, Rodon. Other cases: Hochevar opted not to sign and played indy ball. Strasburg signed at the signing deadline, then rested his arm, then pitched in the Arizona league that fall. Although I don't know if either Wright or McKay rise to a true 1-1 as a few of those did.
  12. Danny Hultzen was a two-way player, who was drafted at 1-2 by Seattle in 2011. SSS alert
  13. I'm really nervous about two-way players, but that's just my two cents without any supporting evidence. How often do teams let two-way players both continue to pitch and then also play on the field? Never? To me that means you no longer have the kid you drafted.
  14. That said, I think Falvey and Co. are probably fairly certain who they are taking at this point. Like others have said, the 35 & 37 are going to be just as intriguing. Berrios was taken at 32 and you could fill an all start team with studs from the second round (Stanton, etc).
  15. What are people's opinions of the probabilities? ex., Wright 40%, McKay 20%, Greene 10%, Gore 10%, other 20% Sorry if I missed this upthread
  16. Beeker started on June 9 at home versus Burlington. The Kernels won, 15-5, staking Beeker and Cedar Rapids to a five-run lead after the first inning. Beeker pitched with a lead the entire game, and the four runs he surrendered came off of two 2-run home runs. His line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 4 R, 4 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO The day previous, Beeker had been named to the Midwest League All Star Game. Congrats to him for a very good first half of 2017.
  17. Beeker was the starting pitcher June 3 in a 10-inning road loss to Burlington. Beeker's line that evening: 7 IP, 5 hits, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO Beeker retired the final 11 batters he faced, but had reached 99 pitches after seven.
  18. Beeker pitched on May 29 versus Kane County. The Kernels lost 3-2. Beeker's line: 6 IP, 5 hits, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 So He faced 25 batters on 93 pitches. It was Beeker's third appearance against Kane County.
  19. Yes, I would consider extending him year to year on a hometown deal if he is willing.
  20. In a bizarro way, this might be a good thing. If Pressly is used lightly in Rochester he will have the fresh arm when the Twins need to call on him.
