  1. On the other hand, if that’s the guy you want and he wasn’t expected to be available at your next pick, then there’s a case to just take him regardless if it’s at 13th instead of hoping he makes it back around.
  2. This exchange was right after Texas clinched the 2011 ALCS in Game 6. FOX Interviewer: Ron Washington, aren't you happy you didn't have to pitch to Nelson Cruz this series? Washington: I was very happy. But if I did, I probably would have thrown him breaking balls! Be warned, you will have to forward to the 3 hour, 55 minute mark to get the quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFj7t2IXx9M
  3. waaay too early for this sort of concern. Lots of guys have struggled with their first taste of pro ball. I searched Nelson Cruz and Max Kepler. First two players I picked. Turns out Cruz struggled and struck out a lot. Then, Kepler didn’t hit his 2nd home run until his third season of rookie ball. I think the only concern for a kid this young is to get him adjusted to a new lifestyle.
  4. Moderator note: A friendly reminder not to challenge the patriotism of other posters here, or their expressions of patriotism, or try to turn this into a politics debate.
  5. Sounds like the ruling was changed to credit the proper pitcher. I won’t say I disbelieve you, but I’ve got to side with all the other posters. It seemed unprecedented for that scorer to go against the plain language of the rulebook, unprecedented certainly in any past Twins games, or I think more people would have had a recollection.
  6. I’m so tired of people bringing up the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911 every time something goes wrong!
  7. Francona has called for more sacrifice bunts in the past three days than I think the Twins have all season, and that’s maybe not an exaggeration. Again, bunting to advance runners is not the percentage play, even when it works. In most cases it’s been shown to be little more than giving away outs. Some of those outs would have been hits or walks and it’s bound to cost the team a few wins over the long haul.
  8. Colorado Rockies run in 2007 was big, too That wasn’t really a blown lead, but more like a team playing their way in to the postseason. They went to the WS but lost
  9. You teed this up for someone to hit out of the park, but no one took a swing. Those two walks were issued to Ryan LaMarre and Lucas Duda.
  10. You keep saying this. I think the Twins match up much better against the Yankees than the Astros. At least as far as the Twins batters vs the opponents pitching.
  11. I can’t believe there aren’t more voices on Twins Daily simply saying, “enjoy the ride.” It’s almost like fans feel entitled to all the improbable come-from-behind victories, but the close losses are never acceptable.
  12. The value of infield defense was displayed in two plays last night. The contrast was a ground ball past Ramirez that started the two-out rally for the Twins in the 4th, and the ground ball that Cron dived for and converted into a double play in the 8th. I don’t know if Sano or Garver makes that play.
  13. Agree, if this wasn’t the year to make a deadline deal, then there never, ever will be.
  14. Disagree. The bullpen is plenty rested, so no one “needs” to be sent down for a fresh arm. And Larnach should post some good numbers in AA before even being considered. That probably means next season, not this season.
  15. I’m mixed on Smeltzer getting another start. It wasn’t just the third time through the order. He was getting hit hard all night.
  16. The Twins are the better team. Maybe Cleveland draws a split this series but I feel there’s a better chance than not that Twins will draw away here the next few weeks. The Twins pitching does concern me, however. I actually expect Cleveland to keep emphasizing the small ball approach this series. They are surprisingly old school. Watch for Tito to spit tobacco, adjust his cup, and call for a lot of sac bunts, against a Twins team that scores in bunches. God I do not miss that “brand of baseball”
  17. I’m just glad Rocco lobbied to bring in Romo at this point.
  18. When Clayton Kershaw developed biceps tendinitis early last season, the LA Times put together a similar article with a list of other players who had also had this. Kershaw was out for about — yep— 22 days (but 30 days between starts). https://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/la-sp-dodgers-dugout-kershaw-20180507-story.html?_amp=true
  19. Well, Perez was my “pick to click” for the last couple months. His last few starts weren’t horrible, until today. The team can decide if it’s time to move him to the bullpen once Pineda returns and all five are healthy, unless they want to skip his start next week and use Smeltzer in Texas. No, he’s not being DFA’d.
  20. Do you know what they call a Quarter Pounder with Cheese in the Beta Quadrant?
  21. I did actually mention that scene, but I edited it out and it did not make the final version of my post...
  22. I wish Tarantino's movies hadn't gotten so gory. I'd have seen them all, otherwise. I like being challenged, but that's just not my cup of tea. The scene down in the tavern of Inglourious Basterds.. never sat through anything as tense as that. Rewriting the ending of WWII. Brilliant. That whole movie I remember being tense, mostly fun and brilliant. But the nazi-scalping.. that could have happened off camera. Too many reasons for me. Maybe it did happen off camera, I don't know, because I turned my eyes away when that stuff was happening. I bought the disc right after that but never watched it. Maybe it's time to circle back to that one, and some of his others. I am definitely planning a trip to see his new one based on the comments here.
