Update: Carrasco stepping away from baseball for health
Hosken Bombo Disco commented on TFRazor's blog entry in TFRazor's Blog
He’s been an absolute rock in that rotation. What a loss, for him and the team. The good news is it sounds like he’s in the road to beat this. -
Joe’s never been to Wisconsin? Come on, it’s like Czechoslovakia.

The Twins also have the most road wins, adding some “bottom of 9th” innings they wouldn’t otherwise have.

He has a different style, for sure. But I think we can give him a lot of credit for where the team is, heading into the All Star break.

You may be right. My impression is of Molitor in years past calling for bunt after bunt, and no one on the team able to lay down an effective bunt. Maybe Buxton is a good bunter when it’s his own idea, and not when there’s a play call and it’s not his idea.

No, but there is a rule that allows the team to leave him off the playoff roster.

On the suicide squeeze —as someone in the game thread commented, it was a nice throwback to 1900s baseball Personally I did not like the call there, especially because Buxton has shown over and over he is bad at bunting. Know your personnel. Edit: As Chief said, yeah the runner on third was running with the pitch. I’m surprised the team even has signs for bunting at all, let alone the squeeze play. I also have to ask, in the 10th, I thought the camera showed Baldelli signaling for an intentional walk to Canha. I didn’t have audio at that point so don’t know what broadcasters were saying. But the screen graphics were even updated to show bases loaded. But then Canha batted with runners on first and third. Is this something a manager can change his mind about, or what am I missing? And then Canha grounded into that tag play at the plate, which could have easily went the other way. Good to escape with a win last night. I think escape is the right word.

I’m keeping Lewis but willing to part with Kirilloff, Graterol, and another low minor arm (though there are some minors pitchers I would prefer to keep). I have very little to base this on, but my gut tells me that insiders do not have Kirilloff rated as high as the national list makers do.

Damn, and I was hoping to drive down and watch him pitch this weekend, but, other things ... Time is running short — he may not be in Cedar Rapids much longer!

The other side of the coin is for the list makers to not stay married to their picks if those picks aren’t working out. You guys do great work. I value your opinions infinitely more than any of the national list makers. I tried making my own prospect list this spring, but it was too difficult. I only got to about 6 or 7 before realizing I didn’t know what the hell I was doing and could only go off of highlight clips, reading between the lines, and second hand reports. However, there have been some very good first-hand reports on Gordon that talk about more than just the results of his plate appearances. We’ve all seen Arraez if even for a brief period now, and it looks like he belongs. Arraez looks like he will be better than Gordon, if not necessarily better than what we want Gordon to become (if that makes sense). True true true true true (if you are doing it right)

I would think most people would have Arraez over Gordon?

Is The Twins FO Actually Mad They Are Good?
Hosken Bombo Disco commented on Dave Overlund's blog entry in Dome Dogg's Blog
surprised... skeptical? ...unprepared? -
I agree about the hands. Looks like his habit of recocking the hands after the pitch has been thrown isn’t helping him. I don’t know if Sano has good pitch recognition anyway. Isn’t there a vision test that teams can ask players to take? Just so many check swings tells me he doesn’t interpret the spin on breaking pitches until too late. Or it could just be lack of mental focus. I do think there’s more to it than that noisy swing. I still think he can be a streaky but decent player and hitter. Clean up his swing, preparation, focus, maturity, all the things we constantly talk about, just kind of comes and goes with him.

I’m disappointed to see Kirilloff back. My impression is that he is rushing it.

Re Kirilloff: Someone updated on an earlier minor league thread that it was his wrist again. Didn’t hear how he re-aggravated it. Someone also said Kirilloff took a cortisone shot and wants to play again as soon as possible. That seems unwise to me, given how we saw Cruz take longer with his wrist than we expected (and heck with his recent PAs it might still be nagging him) and Buxton not playing for several days now. But anyway. Edit: Seth beat me to it. I’m still of the opinion Kirilloff should take it slow.

It would be fun to know if Gonzalez used his cheat card to position himself on that Hamilton ball, or if someone on the bench whistled out to him, (or maybe he was just lucky). In any case, I loved seeing what looked like a sure leadoff hit turn into an out when they switched from the home plate camera to the outfield. It reminded me of ... wait for it ... when Alex Gordon started shifting on Mauer shallow down the left field line (because Joe Mauer night, KC vs Twins, etc)

I’m pretty sure I saw Buxton spitting sunflower seeds at one point. Those things can be hard on your mouth too, but not like... cancer. Not sure what he does from game to game. Nicotine is a hard habit to break.

Strat-O-Matic Baseball Breakdown
Hosken Bombo Disco commented on Danchat's blog entry in Danchat's Strat-O-Matic Blog
Aha here was mine: Basically, you selected nine player cards, put them in order and that was your lineup, and tucked them in those plastic sleeves. Then flicked the spinner, wheel of fortune style. Good times! Very hitter-focused, now that I think about it.- 20 comments

Strat-O-Matic Baseball Breakdown
Hosken Bombo Disco commented on Danchat's blog entry in Danchat's Strat-O-Matic Blog
I never played Strat-O but there was a game with round cards and spinners that I somehow got my hands on. Can’t think of the name and don’t see any pictures of it. Then, my dad told me to go outside, and I drew a box on the side of the garage and pretended to be a Minnesota Twin pitching against Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, and the rest of the Brew Crew. But then I went back indoors eventually.- 20 comments

Who Gets the Axe ?
Hosken Bombo Disco commented on tarheeltwinsfan's blog entry in Blog tarheeltwinsfan
When Cruz comes back I think they will do the old “pitch & ditch” with Littell, if Littell pitches a couple innings they’ll send him down right after (trying to think of a catchy name for it) unless they really need a fresh arm, and they call up a pitcher, if Cruz isn’t ready. Garver still sounds like 4-5 days minimum, at least. -

Thank you for your perspective. Yes let’s hope Graterol caught this early enough for rest to work. I like the illustrations.- 7 comments
