  1. Absolutely! Give me the guy trying to make a play--he's made several already.
  2. Ervin needs a 40 man spot, and Provus and Gladden said something today to the effect, "we all know who is being released to make room." Of course they didn't drop any hints. So, we'll see.
  3. How about, Escobar for Escobar! Seriously though, receiving another Escobar type would be a great return. I have some doubts on the likelihood of that, but we'll see.
  4. Ok, sell, but what are people hoping for? Honest question. Another Tyler Watson type? Bonus money we will not spend? (I'm sure Watson is a terrific guy.) I think my position is pretty close to chief's. Though I understand he will probably be traded, I think I would rather watch Dozier the whole year, let him have a curtain call late in September (heck I might even attend such a game in person to applaud him) than have him shipped off suddenly on the 31st.
  5. On the other hand, they signed Bartolo Colon in July and rode him to the end. Tim Melville got a start on August 21st.
  6. Got it! My bad for not reading the whole thread. But Dozier can be so up-and-down it's hard not to argue Escobar's "consistency" would be a factor.
  7. I strongly disagree. Many (most?) players ebb and flow over the course of a season. So unless you can hold up some other valuable players who bat right at their league average for most of the season, I will not agree that Escobar's unequal halfs are much worth noting. Also, Escobar has positional flexibility. Maybe most importantly, he is a positive influence in the clubhouse. I think "chemistry" and "leadership" can be overrated, but it can't be dismissed, and Escobar brings it in spades. Dozier and Escobar are probably my favorite players however I understand changes need to be made to move forward. Of the two, I'd keep Escobar.

  9. Good to know. I was curious if his hits were line drives or ground balls, if he is swinging out of the zone, etc., but this is helpful too.
  10. I wouldn't say overblown, I'd say he deserves his equal share of credit for turning this season to junk. Early on, and now again he is taking the stage. He is pulling his weight.
  11. Also posted this in the game thread: In the classic save situation of a one-run lead to start the ninth, Rodney is now only 1 out of 4 in converting those to wins.
  12. True. I get it. Minnesota fans remember Korey Stringer. I just wonder if players feel invincible and fail to take the precautions seriously. This is where teammates have to watch each other's backs when away from the park.
  13. Did Kepler also leave due to heat? Sounds like it was a fun game, but man I wish this team was better.
  14. Stay stretched out, be in shape, and drink plenty of water the night before, even if it means a couple extra trips to the john during the night. /mansplaining
  15. I didn't see the inning, so no opinion. In general I am the opposite. Would rather see a starter clean up his own mess.
  16. Does anyone have any opinion on whether Lynn should have stayed in in the 6th?
  17. Ah, I think I see where you are coming from now. (Maybe because I didn't choose to read the Souhan column.) No, Joe does not need to sign a small contract to earn back good will from people who have it out for him. No. I just think he will sign a small contract anyway. But no he doesn't "need" to do that to "make things right" with his current contract. I think you said that but the point got lost somehow.
  18. I have never once begrudged Mauer for his big contract. (maybe someone can comb through every thread, just to be sure.) However, if he comes back for 2019, I peg his salary at about 5 or 6 million, which of course would be a small discount on his expected war for 2019. I think there's a place for him on the team. If his side inexplicably demands multiple years or double figure millions, I'm not sure how long I negotiate, if I'm the front office.
  19. search up "baseball card vandals" and you get some really creative stuff (and some pretty childish stuff) but it's definitely worth a look.
  20. Yep, I don't think the Hunter contract is the benchmark for this. Joe is one of a kind. He has the money. He either wants to play next year, or doesn't, and if he does want to play I'm not sure why he would drive a hard negotiation.
  21. That's a reasonable opinion. Mauer can still contribute.
