    Point being, and not trying to be argumentative, but someone within the Twins org identified Anibal Sanchez last spring, Twins signed him, but yet for some reason the Twins released him when someone better came along (Lance Lynn!) and Sanchez ended up in Atlanta. tl;dr it's not as simple as it seems once you make the guy an offer, bring him into camp, etc. Though I am not opposed to signing one of those guys.

    As Chief said. The Twins have some interleague games in NL parks right away in April. I'd be disappointed if they didn't play Cruz in the OF a little.

    It's just an opinion. I do think Kirilloff is a very good prospect but do have questions about why he's ranked so high in national lists. I'd like to see him repeat it another year.

    You probably see Buxton and Sano as somewhat similar players. That’s understandable given how they came up through the system as top prospects. Others will disagree, but I think the 2019 Twins can survive another disappointing Sano season. But, not another disappointing Buxton season.

    For the nth time, yes this is a subjective ranking. Also, Buxton and Sano are qualitatively different individuals— check that, they are basically opposites. There’s no internal contradiction in people who remain optimistic about Buxton and somewhat resigned to Sano, at this point.

    per Passan, ESPN The novel contract could see Kikuchi in Seattle for as few as three years and as many as seven, according to sources. The base deal is for three years and $43 million. Following the 2021 season, the Mariners can trigger a four-year, $66 million extension. If they decline to do so, Kikuchi either can trigger a $13 million option for the 2022 season or elect free agency. The deal guarantees $56 million and can be worth as much as $109 million.

    May has said in the past that his back doesn't hold up well to relief pitching every day. Maybe that's changed now, or will change with more practical expectations for our relievers. It's my belief that Reed and Pressly were overused last season, too (Reed needed DL time).

    Really good point. I'm sure those two have met and interacted before now, if not necessarily as teammates. We'll see if Cruz can make a difference.

    Meh, I'd probably have Sano in this 11-15 block, though probably closer to 11. He is what he is, which is ok, could be great, but probably not. I think most the other starters with team control plus some pitchers are just as valuable at this point.

    Understood why Dozier was left out. He's certainly an interesting case, and maybe that long-ish period he spent in A+ was what was best for him, whether he was coached or taught something new or just left to his own abilities.

    Good analysis. I will pose two follow-ups: 1. What would you conclude after applying the test above to Brian Dozier? 2. By saying “not knowing the strike zone” are you also saying “strikes out too much,” or, could there be a distinction between those two things?

    I disagree with you - this is a good signing. But I do agree it behooves them to proactively beef up their pitching staff a little more now.

    This would also be the thread to point out that the long time Blue Jays GM Pat Gillick was nicknamed "Stand Pat," for not making offseason moves despite having moderately successful teams. When he did start making big offseason moves, the team won two World Series.

    Great post. Wish it would have been higher in the thread. Reading Dice K's wiki page said the baseballs in Japan are a little smaller. That might concern me if Kikuchi is unable to find the grip on the MLB baseball. Eventually he would but at what cost.
