Which Twins Regular is More Untouchable?
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't get the "Miranda can't play 1B because he's a 3B" opinion. If you can play 3B you can learn to play 1B, it's less demanding. He may be less familiar at 1B right now but I'm sure he can learn to play it as well as he plays 3B. I don't think Miranda is all that great at 3B anyway. Total Zone says he's a lot worse at 3B than 1B. BIS disagrees but neither has enough innings to stabilize and neither one says he's a good fielder.- 32 replies

Why Would the Twins Deal Carlos Correa?
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We're probably overdue for another rehash of the Taylor Rogers deal. Maybe the old farts can complain about Brunansky for Herr.- 34 replies

Minnesota Twins Activate Slugger Miguel Sano
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
His options should all remain considering he's never been on the 40 man roster. If there isn't any development left then I guess he's not going to make it. His bat isn't good enough to start in the big leagues and there are a lot of utility infielder options for teams every offseason. Look at Tim Beckham, for example. Beckham is destroying AAA pitching and can't get a call-up.- 60 replies

The Twins would have to be braindead stupid not to trade Correa for Soto. Soto is the better player and has several years of team control remaining. The only value Correa would have for Washington would be to trade him to a different club since he's opting out after this season. If you look at MLB trade values, Soto is valued at 177 and Correa at 15. That's how overwhelmingly terrible this trade would be for Washington. If I owned the Nationals and my POBO tried to make this trade I'd veto it and fire him immediately. Then I'd fire anyone who didn't say it was a terrible idea when it was discussed. The difficult part of a Soto trade is there is almost no way for the Nationals to recoup that much value. For the Twins to get close to that value in a Soto package they'd have to include Joe Ryan, Royce Lewis, Jose Miranda and either Alex Kirilloff or Trevor Larnach.

Minnesota Twins Activate Slugger Miguel Sano
DJL44 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Palacios and Steer are starting at the correct level for their development. Palacios almost has a 750 OPS in AAA. Steer has been playing well but he isn't owning AAA like Kirilloff did. His batting line is actually a little worse than Caleb Hamilton.- 60 replies

No. I think the Pirates lost 5 guys one season (which was inexcusable because their MLB team was awful).

Trade Rumor: Should the Twins Trade Carlos Correa?
DJL44 replied to cHawk's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
One more reason to be glad the trade deadline is nearly here. People will quit posting this idea soon. Or maybe they won't. Maybe every week for the rest of the season someone will make a "Should the Twins have made a Correa trade at the deadline?" post. Maybe we can re-hash the Delmon Young trade every week for the next forever too. -
Beyond the players that need to be added there are players who are already on the 40 man roster but not near contributing: Enlow, Strotman, Henriquez and Contreras are unlikely to help the Twins this season or next but they could get a shot with a different team.

Trading him for nothing would be a huge mistake. Trading him for a good, young pitcher like Joe Ryan would be a great idea. The player(s) they get in return determines whether or not it would be a mistake. The Twins have too many infielders to have them all in their plans for the next 3 seasons. They can't keep all of Polanco, Arraez, Kirilloff, Lewis, Miranda, Urshela, Steer, Martin, Julien and Encarnacion-Strand. Teams that are selling in July aren't looking for veterans like Polanco and Urshela, they want young players with 5 seasons of control or more.
-
Miranda is a much more likely trade chip than Urshela. Sellers don't want rentals. The Twins have some young players who could play every day on a developing team - Miranda and Celestino top the list.

This is what they should be using to get better MLB relief pitchers

Oliva and Kaat's Long Cooperstown Journey Concludes
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pete Rose was gambling on baseball while managing and during his playing career. That can't be forgiven. Inducting Pete Rose would be an insult to players like Oliva and Kaat. -
He batted .348/.423/.826 in AAA - which is better than any other player this season including Garlick and Kirilloff. He needs to come up, if only to showcase him to other teams.

Oliva and Kaat's Long Cooperstown Journey Concludes
DJL44 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't want to be a downer here but Kaat, Hodges and Oliva weren't even the best unelected players from their era. I agree that the Hall of Fame needs to update the process to get players inducted faster. Too many posthumous inductions. The 75% vote threshold could be 66% and the players they have inducted wouldn't change much at all (almost everyone who has received 66% of the vote has been inducted later). -
Ugh, Winder with shoulder problems again. Sano looks like he could contribute. Get him up and playing on Tuesday.

The Twins Bullpen Is Bad, But Not Unfixable
DJL44 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The return of Archer and Ober should help the rotation. The bullpen would be better with Smeltzer and Winder pitching there instead of in the rotation (or AAA). The biggest problem (which was apparent before the season) is they are relying on too many mediocre vets and rookies. Rookies are going to struggle even if they're talented. Mediocre vets will struggle especially if they are injured. "Cheap, but deep" seems to be how they approach assembling a pitching staff.- 9 replies

Twins 2, White Sox 12: Twins Crushed in Game 1 vs Sox
DJL44 replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I actually attended last night's game. The Twins honored my daughter's state champion softball team on the field (too bad TV didn't pick it up so my dad could see it but sponsors pay the bills). The girls were thrilled to see Buxton in the dugout. Sonny Gray was not good, even from the start. Chicago was not hitting the ball hard but they were finding holes in the defense. The game changed completely when Gray took the comebacker line drive off his body. I was pretty sure Rocco was going to pull him, especially when he couldn't throw a strike with his warmup pitches. 20/20 hindsight says that was the last chance to compete in the game. After the grand slam the pace of the game slowed down even more. I didn't think that was possible given how long the game had taken to get to that point. It was brutal. The pitchers stand on the mound forever, the batter steps out, the pitcher gets more rosin. Cueto was (understandably) irritated when the batter called time as he was in his delivery but he had paused so long I was wondering if he had fallen asleep waiting. I was sitting in a section with the other state championship teams for softball and baseball. These are parents and kids who live baseball - competing or practicing year round spending almost all of their free time and money on the game. The dominant discussion was how unwatchable and boring major league baseball is now. The pitchers take FOREVER to throw a pitch. A leadoff triple in a close game gets turned into nothing with one batter striking out looking. Rocco challenges (and loses the challenge) on a play at the plate trailing 7-1 in an ugly blowout loss. Kirilloff lays up on a ball in LF instead of attempting a sliding catch. 6:40 game start didn't help us get home before 11:00 even though we left during the 7th inning stretch. The only people who seemed to be having fun that night were the people hanging out at the bar and ignoring the game. All for the privilege of spending $32 per seat for tickets (we were nearly in LF in section U) and godawful prices for food. This was my first game back at Target Field since before the pandemic. I'll stick to attending my daughter's softball games and go back to the following the Twins on the radio and highlights on the internet.- 25 replies
