  1. I don't think Byron Buxton will return two top-100 prospects. He's making $15M a year. One top prospect and one lower ranked prospect is more likely. I think the Reds are the least likely of these teams. They need the prospects more than the other four teams.
  2. They're not "right sizing" the payroll to pay down the debt? Could have fooled me.
  3. Ok. So they placed bad bets and lost $500M in a bull market and now the Twins fans of Minnesota need to suffer because of their bad business decisions. I don’t think Bernie Madoff hurt the Mets that badly.
  4. Even if they got a top 20 prospect (Sam Basallo, Nolan McLean, Jesus Made, Bryce Eldridge, Colt Emerson, Andrew Painter), I'd be asking for another prospect as a throw-in. I thought the Reds were fools to trade Sonny Gray straight up for Chase Petty.
  5. "Trying to figure out which one helps reduce the debt". One pitcher makes $22M and the other makes less than $6M. I think I can tell you which one helps reduce the debt more. I still refuse to believe the debt is real. How could they possibly run up $100M in debt in one season with revenues over $300M and a player payroll less than $130M? Who is going to jail for embezzlement? I think "the debt" is their excuse to slash and burn and make it seem like they were forced to do it. It's a deflection from having to rebuild because the front office failed to produce a contender.
  6. Sounds like a huge upgrade on Eddie Julien
  7. It would force moves of Ryan, Lopez, Jeffers and Larnach at a minimum. Bailey Ober and Royce Lewis would be the two highest paid players remaining as the payroll heads below $50M. Actually - Carlos Correa would be the highest paid player on the team since they're paying him $11.3M to play for Houston. The Pohlads should easily clear $100M in profit if that happens.
  8. But it's a thousand times more likely they still don't like each other.
  9. They shouldn't care about the "ready soon" part. This team isn't ready to compete soon. Get the best talent you can get irrelevant of ETA.
  10. This is a straight-up no confidence vote from Byron Buxton. He doesn't believe Falvey can build a contender in the time he has left on his contract. I think he's probably correct in that assessment.
  11. I think he's worth 3 prospects: one of them in the top 50, one just outside of the top 100 and another with bench/bullpen upside. The team acquiring him will get two cheap all-star caliber pitching seasons and the right to give him a qualifying offer and get a 1st round draft pick.
  12. That doesn't square with his 448 career walks. He wasn't up there hacking at balls outside the strike zone. Oliva was a major league hitting coach for a decade. You don't get that job if your only hitting advice is "see ball, hit ball".
  13. The Dodgers and Phillies will definitely have interest.
  14. Falvey wants Prielipp in the bullpen. Do you think he's going to lose that argument?
  15. That's basically Outman. I agree, they need to trade him if he's Outman.
  16. Kreidler, Outman and Julien should be replaced on the 40-man. Right now, using the Fangraphs depth chart, they're all on the 26-man roster. After that, they can work on replacing Gasper and McCusker on the 40-man. I don't think they will acquire enough new players to bump Fitzgerald, Clemens and Pereda off the roster.
  17. Biomechanics can help with running, throwing and fielding. They won't help you figure out what base to throw to, when to take the extra base or where to position yourself on the field.
  18. You can have a beautiful swing, but it doesn't matter if you can't make contact with the ball.
  19. I think you are selling Oliva way short about his knowledge of hitting. Good hitters have a plan when they get to the plate. They know what to attack and what to lay off. Ideally, they practice the swing so much that muscle memory kicks in and they don't have to worry about that when they're at bat.
  20. That's the problem I'm trying to address with changing the revenue sharing incentives. Marginal revenue is shared but marginal expenses (paying ushers, cleaning the bathrooms, etc) are taken on entirely by the home team. That means it isn't profitable for the Twins to sell the cheap seats for less than what they cost now. The Saints can sell a seat for $8 but the Twins have to sell it for $15 to make the same profit. I would like MLB to try to maximize attendance with their revenue sharing incentives. It is a win for the fans, the players and the owners.
  21. Biomechanics are fine, but they aren’t going to help Brooks Lee (for example) decide what pitches to NOT swing at.
  22. He still can’t field. This roster has too many DH. They don’t need to add another.
