    It always fascinates me how a player has a bad game and all of a sudden they aren't trying, or lack mental toughness or don't have the desire. I wish commenters could just say "I was disappointed in the outcome" instead of trying to find blame with a player who didn't succeed. Baseball is hard and the most likely outcome of any at-bat is an out. If these guys weren't trying or didn't have the desire they wouldn't be in the big leagues. A single game is not a bellwether for a player's determination.

    It's worth taking a look through the other arbitration eligible players. The Twins like to shop for veterans among the expensive arb players.

    I would tender everyone except Luplow and De Leon. That's a very reasonable price for Farmer.

    Telling Joe Ryan "You're starting Game 4" should soothe any hurt feelings.

    With Lewis still hurt I think Stevenson as a pinch runner and defensive replacement is more valuable than Buxton as a pinch hitter.

    Zoilo had one great season, but really only one great season. It's kind of sad that having one great season puts you in contention for best Twins SS ever.

    Massively unfair to lump Cal Ripken in with Derek Jeter. That's like saying "I've seen Torii Hunter and Rich Becker play CF". Ripken was a plus-plus defender at SS. It wasn't necessarily range (although he had as much as Correa does this season with his chronic foot injury) but instead he had great positioning, heads-up play, impeccable fundamentals and strong, accurate arm. Sounds like Carlos Correa to me. BTW - Correa has had one season of +20 RField. Ripken had five of them and played in an era where most teams sacrificed offense for defense at SS.

    Or you let some other team pay for his (potentially injury riddled) 30s and play someone younger.

    I'd say the "sweeper" has been around for 60 years. It's just a slider that is more horizontal than diagonal.

    I understand why Rocco does it the other way. He can guarantee Julien and Polanco both hit in the first inning. If they get a lead he can pull them quickly. If Polanco pinch hits then they need to find another player to replace him defensively and the bench starts getting thin.

    That's funny, because my direct quote was "it was a great play". So much hyperbole on this because of the emotional impact of the play. It was a great play. It was a difficult play. It was not the best play ever made by a SS in the history of baseball. A faster baserunner would have made it even more difficult for someone else to make that play but Bo Bichette got thrown out by 8 feet.

    For modern players I would expect Lindor and Swanson to make that play. Crawford would have made it a couple years ago but he's a step slower now. Other guys (Adames, Pena, Seager, Witt, Turner, Bogaerts) COULD make the play but I wouldn't expect them to. Heck, Kyle Farmer could make that play if you told him what was going to happen in advance but probably not in real-time.

    The MLB website shows Games 1 and 2 on FS1, Game 3 on FOX. Games 4 and 5 are TBD. College football and the NFL will be on FOX on Saturday and Sunday.

    I have seen people write "nobody practices that play" which is utter garbage. I know Correa has practiced that play because his throwing fundamentals were right out of the clock drill. You don't accidentally get perfect baseball fundamentals.

    I can believe this coming from a Twins fan because in all the years I've watched the Twins only Greg Gagne is on par with Carlos Correa defensively. The Twins have not been a hotbed of talent at SS over their history.

    Watch the replay again. At the moment Jeffers caught the ball Bichette was at least 8 feet away from home plate. He was at the edge of the dirt circle around the batters boxes.

    You should have watched Ozzie Smith and Cal Ripken in the 1980s.

    Even with a hundred extra grounders Polanco will still be a worse 3B option than Farmer, Castro and maybe even Solano. Julien is nearly as good as Polanco at 2B now but that's mainly because Polanco is looking washed up defensively.

    This is some pretty extreme hyperbole. People brought up the Jeter throw as an immediate comparison. If an awful SS like Derek Jeter can make a similar throw there are plenty of SS who can make that throw. It was a great play but Carlos Correa is not the only MLB SS who can make great plays.
