  1. They should definitely replace the GM if they don't trust themselves to make a good trade.
  2. Gallo was a bad signing when it was announced. The last thing the Twins needed on the roster was another LH outfield bat. His performance was as bad as most predicted.
  3. None of these are that bad. Most are only 1 year deals which helps. They also were able to mitigate the downside on the Donaldson contract. Look at Colorado's signing of Kris Bryant which will devastate their franchise for the length of the contract. That's a terrible free agent deal.
  4. You can pay millions to win or millions to lose but to play the game it will cost tens of millions.
  5. Mechanics are more important than velocity as an indicator. If he's not repeating his mechanics it's time to give him a rest.
  6. Nobody is going to force you to pay for more streaming than you want. You'll just miss a few Twins games. Exclusively distributed games make money. They're not going away.
  7. The ratio is likely to be 140-150 games on one service and 12-22 games split between other services (probably Yankees, Red Sox or Dodgers games). I can't possibly watch every regular season game so skipping a few is not a big deal. The more annoying problem will be the continued fragmentation of the playoffs. The service you subscribe to for most regular season Twins games is probably going to be different than the services carrying the MLB playoffs. They're also going to continue to switch providers between playoff rounds. Best case scenario is one streamer gets the NL playoffs, another gets the AL playoffs and a third gets the World Series but it might end up more fragmented than that where every streaming service gets a different playoff round.
  8. Absolutely nothing, but an article about Keaschall gets few comments whereas dredging up old trades usually spawns dozens of "told you so" comments.
  9. No player comes out of AAA a completely finished product. Players have to learn and adjust at the MLB level.
  10. If you look at the reverse order of the salaries of the various underperforming veteran players as a guide. Jackson $1.3M (DFA, now in St. Paul) Margot $4M Santana $5.25M Farmer $6.25M Vazquez $10M (plus another $10M owed next year) They owe Margot the least amount going forward. He's already been paid $1.3M by the Twins and would probably earn $500,000 as the prorated league minimum on some other team's MLB roster if they DFA him. They would only have to eat about $2M to release him.
  11. I would DFA Margot. He's the most easily replaceable. I would rank Farmer ahead of the AAA players (Kemp, Prato, Helman) on the organizational depth chart but not Margot (Martin is better). Plus, I like Castro in the OF more than the IF.
  12. I agree that Martin is the player most likely to take Farmer's utility role.
  13. They are definitely waiting until the last minute in case an injury makes the decision for them. I do not see Brooks Lee taking the role they have for Kyle Farmer. They aren't going to make Lee a RH platoon 2B when he's actually a switch-hitting SS and 3B who hits better LH and has played one game at 2B professionally. Lee will develop in AAA until he's needed due to injuries to other players.
  14. Play Miranda at 3B when Lewis is the DH, at 1B against RHP and at DH vs LHP. There will be plenty of opportunities for Santana to enter the game in the late innings as a pinch hitter against LH relievers and take over at 1B for defensive purposes.
  15. Narvaez has somehow been worse than Vazquez and only a little bit cheaper. Vazquez is still worth the MLB minimum because most AAA catchers are worse at defense and just as bad at hitting which is why you don't just cut him. He's not worth $10M a season but there is no "undo" button to press.
  16. I think they get routinely burned so badly in trades that they are very shy about making them.
  17. That was bWAR. For fWAR Woods Richardson is at 0.9 in 2024 and Berrios total for that 1-1/2 years was 2.8. What Berrios is doing in 2024 is irrelevant because the Twins did not control him past 2022.
  18. I doubt you will get the certainty you desire. We are in a time of rapid changeover and the "regional" broadcasting of sports is ending as is the all-inclusive cable bundle. I expect the new Venu service to bid for the baseball contract but there will be other bidders (Amazon Prime) and keeping the games on MLB.TV / MLB Network is always an option if they don't get the terms they want. I have no idea if there will be service for both cable and streaming or if you will have to pick next season and I think that it will change several times in the next few years as companies merge and new companies are started. I expect the exclusive 1 game a week contracts with Apple and Roku will continue and it will probably fragment even further which means nobody is going to be able to subscribe to ALL of the Twins games with just one service. I would guess that you will find out sometime between January and July of 2025 how to get Twins games for the 2025 season. Hopefully there is no in-season instability next year like there is this year.
  19. Didn't have the details handy on how MLB decided to run the playoffs this season but the Twins absolutely want the playoff windfall. That's the whole strategy - make the playoffs and profit, preferably spending as little as possible to make the playoffs.
  20. The Twins have now received more WAR from Woods Richardson (1.0) in 2024 than Toronto received from Berrios (0.9) in the 1-1/2 years the Twins traded them.
  21. I agree. They will want the windfall from the one wild card playoff game sellout.
  22. I disagree. He's having a great season and he's pretty cheap. Atlanta, for one, would love to add Kepler right now. Seattle was interested before and I'm sure they would love to make Haniger a platoon player in RF. Santander is struggling for the Orioles. Castellanos has been bad for the Phillies. Yastrzemski is having a bad year for the Giants. That's 5 playoff teams with a hole in RF.
  23. Juan Soto leads the pack. Teoscar Hernandez and Cody Bellinger might be available again. Tyler O'Neill and Anthony Santander are also options.
