    The Yankees are actually looking for infield help. Cortes for Kyle Farmer would be too lopsided for the Twins.

    I assume the Yankees are going to upgrade the rotation which is why Cortes is available.

    Cortes for Kepler is the obvious move for the Twins.

    Dobnak is owed $3M for next season that they would want to get out from under.

    Yankees are reportedly making Nestor Cortes available. He has one more arbitration season left after this one. Would the Yankees trade Cortes for Max Kepler? That would give the Twins a LH starting pitcher and reduce the Twins payroll by about $2M which would allow them to add a reliever.

    The Blue Jays are not going to eat any of Kikuchi's salary. They need to dump it all to get under the luxury tax. If the Twins won't pick up Kikuchi's paycheck they won't get him.

    If payroll is really a problem they need to attach a prospect to Randy Dobnak and send him to a bad team who is willing to try him in the MLB rotation (Rockies, White Sox, Marlins).

    The Twins are going to get outbid on Snell. Kikuchi may not be "perfect" but he's good enough. He's pretty cheap in salary, won't cost a ransom in prospects to acquire and he's better than any lefthanded pitcher they have. Tanner Scott is also a good addition and his remaining salary is negligible (< $2M) but he will probably cost more in prospects than Kikuchi to provide basically the same performance. A good lefty could mean the difference between winning and losing a playoff series. Beyond Kikuchi and Scott there really isn't much available for rentals. Andrew Chafin is not exciting and Tyler Anderson is buying high.

    The Blue Jays have no interest in Kepler's expiring contract (they're dumping those) and nobody wants Dobnak.

    The markets aren't the same either. The NFL is #1 in the Twin Cities market and the NBA/WNBA are gaining in popularity. The Cardinals have the St. Louis market basically to themselves with just NHL hockey in the offseason and a brand-new MLS expansion team during the season.

    There are huge tax benefits to showing a paper loss. Think. Why would the value of a business keep increasing if it is not making money?

    Blake Snell is the perfect deadline. Nobody else increases their chances of winning in the playoffs more.

    Because the fans want the team to win a World Series but the owners want the team to turn a really big profit.

    I was listening to the Tigers feed on satellite radio. They mentioned Ober has pitched 26 innings against the Tigers this season with 2 earned runs allowed.

    I guarantee if another GM called this week and offered to take on the contract that Dobnak would be in a different uniform immediately.

    MLB made $378M per team last year and 48% of the revenue is pooled which gives the Twins $182M in revenue without selling a single ticket or hot dog.

    He might hit when he's healthy but he's not a good fielder anywhere even when he's healthy. He's about to start the arbitration process which will quickly make him more expensive than he's worth. He (currently) still has his option which makes him a decent depth player for one more year.

    I imagine USC and UCLA will fund the full number of baseball scholarships. Not sure about Rutgers or Northwestern.

    Spencer Bengard has an ERA of 1.64 in 60 innings for Fort Myers. Move him up to Cedar Rapids.
