  1. If you want Miller back you'll be able to draft him in the Rule 5 draft next December. He won't be protected.
  2. It is important to realize that ZIPS regresses projections to the mean. It assumes that if a player is in MLB that they are good enough to contribute and will rarely predict people to have a negative WAR. Of course, in reality, negative WAR contributors happen all the time.
  3. Umm, no. Larnach and Wallner in the OF please.
  4. It may be as simple as this Vanderbilt coaches: "He's fast, let's put him in the outfield" "He has no instincts, let's try him in the infield" "He's even worse there, move him back to the outfield where he won't do as much damage" Toronto coaches: "He can't read fly balls, better try to develop him as an infielder" "He sucks on defense, try to trade him before anyone else figures it out" MN coaches: "Let's see if he can play SS, he's failed everywhere else" (I've got nothing on this one) "He's not going to be a good enough hitter to hold down a corner OF spot, he's going to need to know more than one position to be a bench player. Let's develop him as a utility player."
  5. A little more than one season of Berrios is all the Twins traded away, a well-paid season in his last year of arbitration. He would have walked as a free agent after that.
  6. Is this team developing rookies or competing for a pennant? Giving a person reps hoping they turn into a better player is what non-contenders do. Better yet, that's what AAA is for. The Twins are placing several bad bets on players who have low upside even if the bet pays off. High risk, low reward.
  7. They could probably re-brand to TwinsMonthly during the offseason and we wouldn't notice.
  8. You mean the team that finished in 4th place and then lost Kepler and Santana to free agency?
  9. TC Bear and the front office traditionally hibernate from the end of the World Series until just before TwinsFest.
  10. Translating the comments on Brock Stewart "He's a 34-year-old pitcher with a history of shoulder injuries. His arm could fall off loading his truck in the Home Depot parking lot. If he pitches at all this season, we'll be thrilled."
  11. Billy Wagner got 10% on his first attempt. Guess he was a lost cause, we should probably disallow anyone who voted for him this year from ever voting again. Andruw Jones started at 7.3% and now he's on the verge of induction. One-and-done candidates who should definitely be in the Hall of Fame: Johan Santana, Jim Edmonds, Kenny Lofton, Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Bill Freehan, David Cone, Kevin Brown, Bret Saberhagen, Rick Reuschel, Reggie Smith Close enough that they deserved a 2nd ballot: Dwight Gooden, Frank Tanana, Willie Randolph, Buddy Bell Ted Simmons was snubbed by the writers but managed to get the Era Committee's attention Largest increases from debut to make Hall of Fame
  12. Arraez is likely to receive, and turn down, a qualifying offer. He's a free draft pick.
  13. True, which is why I'm asking for a couple in any trade with San Diego. Vazquez, Castro, Paddack, Duran, Julien for Cease, Arraez, prospects
  14. Just breaking down the trades 1) Looks like fair value for a season of Cease and the comp pick but I'm not sure it fits San Diego's desire to compete this season. They would have to find somewhere to flip those prospects. 2) Paddack and Martin have no net trade value so this is really Larnach and Morris for Cease. I could see them having interest in that package if they like Morris. 3) This trade has some possibilities because the Padres seem to like Vazquez but he has negative trade value. If they like Julien they can have him, he has little trade value after his 2024 season. This one boils down to Miranda and Matthews for Cease. It's similar enough to Larnach and Morris from trade #2. I think Larnach is a much better fit for their roster than Miranda.
  15. I don't know what the person did. I was just stating that there are perfectly legitimate reasons to not vote for a player if you have more candidates that you support than spots available. If you go back in time and look at past Hall of Fame ballots there have always been at least 10 future Hall of Famers on the ballot. Some of them took 50 more years to get inducted, but they were on the ballot. Even now, there are way more than 10 players on this ballot better than the bottom 20% of the players who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. There were at least a dozen players on this ballot better than Billy Wagner and he got elected. Please forgive me if I don't understand the subtleties between "a jerk move" and "a jerk". Those look like the exact same thing to me.
  16. The honor is exactly the same for Ichiro as it is for Billy Wagner and Dave Parker. I don't know how why you would call someone a jerk for supporting a lot of players for Hall of Fame induction. There have been at least 10 players worth voting for on every ballot since they started voting.
  17. If your goal is to get the players you support elected, why throw away your vote on Ichiro? One person choosing not to vote for Ichiro makes absolutely no difference in the end result. When it comes to the Hall of Fame, you're either in or you're not. You don't get bonus Hall of Fame points for having a high vote total.
  18. I heard Falvey say that Buxton and Correa are in good health at the moment. I wondered why he didn't mention Royce Lewis in that sentence. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the new Twins rewards program. Not sure if I understand it well enough to have an opinion.
  19. That is not in the ballot instructions. I have seen voters who vote for 10 refuse to add anyone new until a spot opens up. Their justification is "If I thought they were a Hall of Famer last year, why would I leave them off this year?" I wouldn't be surprised if some voters went alphabetically (the names are listed alphabetically) and checked off names until they ran out of votes. You can get to 10 names before you hit Suzuki.
  20. Vazquez is good but he's not a gold-glove caliber catcher like Yadier Molina. Players who can't hit are often overrated on defense. He's also getting into his mid-30s which is going to make it harder and harder to maintain his performance both at the plate and behind it.
  21. An 832 OPS in AA says he's not quite ready. That would be equivalent to an OPS in the low 600s in MLB. It's probably going to take another year before he's ready for a callup.
