  1. I was thinking Wells should go to Chattanooga and they should put Stewart in the pen. Stewart has a pretty high WHIP and not a ton of K's. I think his suff will play up in the pen. A bummer not to see Gonsalves or Littell on the list. Would be nice to know they have conquered AAA and are ready for another challenge but they appear to be challenged right where they are for now.
  2. I agree. I am sure they taking things slow and steady with him. Its just that with that many muti-hit games it seems like he should be challenged more. The sooner he is ready the sooner we can plug him into the Twins lineup.
  3. I think Arraez should be promoted as well. He looks like he ready to handle AA pitching at this point.
  4. I think the bullpen is the best place for Stewart. He can maximize his stuff there and if he adds a few ticks has a chance to be dominant there. I know he is still young but given what we have seen I think we have better prospects for starting pitchers than Stewart. Let's see if he can blow us away in the pen. I really think he can be successful there.
  5. I really like Littells bendy stuff but he seems to give up too much contact. Both Littell and Gonsalves seem to have a ways to go to get MLB hitters out. I really like what Thorpe has been doing recently. I hope he is can become a pitcher that makes it. Seems like we have a lot of guys who are close but need that extra something to make it.
  6. So are we not signing Mack? Seems like a long wait.
  7. Always liked him as a player. He always seemed to be a bit under rated. Unless he falls back to earth I am guessing he won't be overlooked anymore.
  8. For as great as Jeffers has been 13th round pick Casanova has been better with the bat so far.
  9. Real nice start by Teng. Good to see another nice young arm in the system doing well. Long way to go but a good start. Does anyone know if the International money gained in the Kintzler trade was used to aquire Teng? Seems like he was acquired not that long after that trade. Hopefully more guys in Cedar Rapids will be ready to move up in the next month because it looks like some of the guys in E-town and the GCL could be fast movers.
  10. So De La Cruz could go 0 for 10 and still be batting .300, Wow, impressive night at the plate for him. There is some serious talent on that GCL team this year. Was happy to see Benninghoff pitch well his first time out. Hoping that shoulder stays healed.
  11. Over on MLB site looks like the Twins saved 1.5 Million in bonus money and went over slot about 460,000 so they should have a million dollars yet to play with. Is Larnach going to be over slot or are they gonna use that to sign a few more High schoolers?
  12. GCL looks pretty loaded if players perform as they have in the past. Looking forward to keeping an eye on these guys.
  13. Won\loss records don't mean much in the minors. Development trumps everything. To your point our teams have lost a lot of one run games\close games this year. Fort Meyers especially. Pitching is still a weakness in the system at least IMO it is. Lots of games lost by the bullpens in the minors this year. Also the Twins have an extremely young roster in Cedar Rapids and several players looked over matched early in the year. I think those players will come on strong in the second half. I am also happy that the Twins are promoting the promising young talent early even if it means more losses. It gives them a chance to move through the system faster and or if they hit a tough level repeating a year is not a big deal. While its not always true but more often than not when players who are young for their level have success they seem to be players that can make it to the big leagues. I think you will see Baddoo, Miranda, Pearson, Arias have greater success as they move up. First full season that young is tough. To me they already have been pretty successful. There are a lot of really good to great players in the Twins system right now. Just need to give them some time to develop. It's hard to be in the top 2% to 5% let alone stand out from the best of the best.
  14. $225,000 for Willie Joe Gary per MLB.com. Not too bad for a high schooler.
  15. Nice write up here on Jeffers . Sounds like Twins see a Garver comp for him. He has a borderline plus arm and they have heard good things about his defense. They are not as worried as other evaluaters about his numbers being down when using wood bats. Hopefully they are right.
  16. I guess good defense is in the eye of the beholder. I believe he only threw out 25 percent stealers. I guess I don't consider that great defense. I like him as a hitter. Hoping defense is better than what most evaluaters believe they saw.
  17. To be honest it is hard to know what amount guys should be signed for but we do get clues. One way to determine worth is based on where analysts see players likely to be ranked. Not every player will have 1st round worth and through 40 rounds lots of players sign so they seem to understand where they rank and thus what they are worth to get a chance at their dream. We know college seniors have little leverage in this process unless they have had an outstanding year\college career. We know highly touted high school seniors will require a lot of money to sign away from colleges where some have potential to turn into first round picks and make a lot of money. We know juniors have some leverage to get a little more money based on their talent and where they were picked. We know the basic idea is to use your pool to sign as many of the picks as possible and if you save enough take a shot at a high schooler who fell and gamble on their potential. So knowing a players approximate ranking, leverage, and potential ceiling I would argue we have a decent idea of what players might be signed for. Granted we don't know a lot of information that scouts\organizations do so the value us box score watchers apply can be skewed. But it is fun to form an opinion and put it out there and see if holds up or matches up to what really happens and typically it is pretty close but there are always surprises as well.
  18. That must be it. I read somewhere he has a plus arm so if they help him frame pitches, increase his pop time etc. then he can be average defensively with offensive upside. I hope he can do it.
  19. I wonder why FanGraphs had him rated so high? His bat was clearly superior to others in the class? His defense seems to be universally touted as below average coming into the draft and he is a slow runner so he gives you virtually no upside defensively unless of course he does develop into an average catcher. So I guess I don't understand how Fangraphs can rate half a player that high. He really only seems to have high offensive potential and scouts were mixed on if his current power will really carry over to wood bats and MLB. I know I heard the FO mention last year that they look for hitters with certain characteristics like plate discipline and swing plane etc. So this guy must have a lot of things that they like in a hitter and I guess Fangraphs agree's but there are a lot of warts on this guy as well from a defensive standpoint so I hope they can develop this guy. Otherwise it was wasted pick in an already thin high end talent draft for them.
  20. Yeah that was the amount I was looking for as well. I figured he was worth about 600k. Granted I don't know how hard it is to get there but that is what I was thinking when they made that pick. I guess Fangraphs had him rated fairly high so maybe they split the difference who knows. I was just hoping for a little more to spread around for a HS talent down the line.
  21. 300K is not bad but I was hoping for more saving there. If he does remain a catcher and hits with power then this is an amazing deal. However, He seemed destined to be a 3rd or 4th round pick to me. I don't believe he was even in MLB's top 200 not that that means anything. I just think they could have grabbed him later but I guess they really love his bat and approach. I hope they are right and other evaluators are wrong.
  22. Yeah the Twins have some pretty exiting young pitchers to watch. Graterol, Enlow, Leach and Balazovic are all 19 or under and they all look like they have pretty good stuff. Would have been nice to pick up one more high end high schooler in this years draft but it is what it is. Still plenty of guys with high ceilings to watch.
  23. I'm a little surprised Davis and Diaz made it. Even Blankenhorn seems a but of stretch to me. Always great to see that guys are doing well enough to be All Stars. I am quite surprised 7 guys from that team made it.
