Article: Jose Miranda Heating Up With The Weather
Dman replied to Steven Buhr's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am happy Miranda is turning it around. He was one of my favorite players in Elizabethton. Loved the power stroke there. Was hoping for a faster start from him but he is young. Just glad the Twins are challenging the young hitters early. I think it will pay off in the long run.- 17 replies

Article: Minnesota Twins 2018 MLB Draft Signing Tracker
Dman replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
A little surprised Keirsay went that far over slot. I guess he was willing to bet on himself next year. -
I hope we can get a return for Dozier at the deadline. I'm just not certain it will happen. If he were to get dealt then there should be room for Gordon to get the playing time he needs. Gordon has been rock solid with the bat from spring training to AAA.

Gordon does look sharp this year. I just don't see them calling him up as he is not on the 40 man. Adrianza's bat has heated up recently. Polanco will be back fairly soon. Dozier is entrenched at second base. The timing just doesn't seem right for him to come up.

Good news! Personally I thought he should have started the season in Ft. Meyers but I guess a couple of months to make sure the bat played is not that big of a deal. Hope he keeps that hit tool strong and finds his way to MLB.

I really enjoy the way you write these. You write them how I feel about the game. Sometimes I like your take even better than my own. Thanks for doing these as I truly look forward to reading them.

Article: What's Wrong with the Twins? A Fizzling Core
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It seems like a lot of things just haven't gone the Twins way this year. A bad start the first month of the season. When the starters pitch well the bullpen blows the game. When the starters pitch poorly and the bullpen holds we still fall just short. Losing lots of 1 run games and or getting walked off a ton. It feels a bit like a cursed season. The talent is there it just doesn't all come together for some reason. Last year it was the exact opposite. We found ways to win games and seemed to catch the breaks. I guess this is the other side of things. Just have to keep hoping things turn around and even if they don't then we will be in a good position in the draft next year at least. -

Andrew, Thanks for putting all the information together on the draft picks. I know I really appreciate knowing a little background on the players we drafted. Every year I hope they all make it but I know typically only one or two or maybe three will make it and sometimes no one will. Here's hoping these guys find a way to be better than the rest. -

Losing that second round pick hurt. If they had that pick they don't have to waste it on the catcher to try and save money instead they could have invested in some higher ceiling High school talent there. I hope saving the money was worth it. Maybe they can get something done on the trade market because I don't see them having much of a pool for international signings either. Looks like a down year for talent acquisition. Maybe next year will be better. -

Dman replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm a little disappointed the draft was so college heavy but I guess I should have seen that coming with the lost draft picks. Also surprised they went bat heavy. I can see Larnach was likely a decent pick where they took him and this team could use more power bats. The catcher was an odd pick to me but I guess the guys they were hoping for were gone already. Even though a bit risky I liked the center fielder pick. I really wanted some young gun pitchers to develop from this draft but I guess we have Enlow, Leach, and Graterol who are all pretty young right now. There is Balazovich and Benninghoff from the 2016 draft and hopefully some GCL guys to fill things out. It still feels like the weakest part of our system is pitching so I hope they figure something out to strengthen us in that area. Doesn't look like this draft will help us in that area. Hope the guys they got turn out. -

Looks like they are betting the injury is behind him. A bit high risk, but solid approach at the plate appears to be the theme this year. They want hitters who hit the ball hard and control the strike zone. I guess the Lamonte Wade approach is rubbing off on the front office. -
Yeah I agree but I also think that Baddoo and Miranda and most all the players on the Cedar Rapids team provide the same level of character\work ethic\quiet leadership. So how does that make these two stand out from them? I personally don't think it does and that is why some of us get a little testy about it. Its a good\great thing but does it really mean much? Their athletic skills, however, are on another level and that has meaning.

I don't think that anyone thinks character or high character guys is a negative thing. That statement seems exaggerated to me. The issue seems to be that most everyone in MiLB ball has high character and a high baseball IQ. If you can name some guys who don't maybe that would help better define why and or how these guys are different than their teammates. I get that Royce is a bit more extroverted, charismatic and possibly more thoughtful about everyone enjoying the game than some other players and that's great. But I guess I don't buy into the narrative that that makes him a better baseball player than his teammates who also have high character and express themselves in different ways perhaps like Joe Mauer. The issue appears to be that character as a definition is watered down and leadership is in the eye of the beholder. Not that character is a negative thing.

I agree to a degree. Character and leadership sometimes get overblown. Sure it is good to have a fun loose clubhouse with nice guys. Getting along and playing for each other is better than an I'm in it for me divisive clubhouse but most of these guys are "good" with high baseball IQ's. So yeah its nice and all but in the end talent wins. As for clubhouse leaders I don't think the White narrative is completely correct. I mean Kirby was the Twins high character leadership guy for along time as was Tori Hunter. Maybe there are more Caucasian players with those qualities I don't know but you kind of either have it or you don't regardless of skin color.

Article: Get To Know Miracle Catcher Taylor Grzelakowski
Dman replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was a true skeptic when it came to this guy. Glad the scouts know more than I do. Pretty impressive for him to jump that many levels and be hitting so well. Definitely someone I will be watching and rooting for. -
I have always been a big Kirillof believer. The article just reinforces how calm and cool he appears to be. I really like his power potential but would like to see a few more walks just to show he can make a pitcher work a little bit as well. The Twins got a good one there. Badoo is probably my favorite player on that team but Kirillof and Lewis are right there as well. It is a fun group to watch. If the other guys heat up they will be a really tough team to beat.

Article: Week in Review: Down in the Dumps
Dman replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was so excited for this season to start. I really felt like the team was on the rise. The way this team has lost games makes me wish we could start the season over. So funny how last year we got off to a great start and things fell our way when I was expecting a bad year. Then this Year I was expecting a great year and it is a disaster. The baseball gods are cruel so cruel.- 51 replies

The Kinley Conundrum is Coming for Twins
Dman commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
The FO schooled themselves on this one. They didn't need to make the Kinley move as they had in house options that were just as good. Look I am an idiot and could see this failing from the moment they picked him. He is old, inexperienced and wild with no option to send him up and down. It was just absolutely idiotic to think this would work out well. They have so much egg on their face it is impossible not to laugh at them. Look I like a lot of things they have done but I never liked this move from the moment they made it. They messed up and they should own it. I will say that though I am pissed they lost Chargios they still have plenty of relief arm options so if they were going to gamble I guess this is the place to gamble but in IMO it was still a bad gamble.- 25 comments

I know it is early in the season but Dozier has been such a catalyst for this team it is hard to imagine him not being here. I mean with the home runs and the good defense he is pretty much impossible to replace right now. He is aging and we have guys ready to step in and replace him to some degree but this offense will take a hit if he leaves. I think this FO might want to invest the Joe Mauer money in pitching so signing Dozier doesn't seem likely but the way he is playing right now this team is going to miss him unless other guys really pick up their level of play.

Article: Miracle Hope Experience Translates On The Field
Dman replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Where is Arraez? Is he still recovering from injury? If we still had Palacious and Arraez then this team would be pretty loaded as well. -
Really great point. Thanks for that! There is no way they could afford to carry him on the 40 man next year. There are going to be enough tough decisions there as it is. He just finally looked like he was figuring things out with the bat and if he was solid there seemed like he had a good shot. Not a sure thing but since he was young if not younger than some of the competition he seemed like a good bet to me. Being on the 40 next year is a killer though. No sense taking up a spot when you have some decent guys that won't need a spot right away. In that light it makes a lot of sense. It is best for everyone that he try and catch on somewhere else. Twins can invest development time in other players at that position then.

I was surprised about Silva as well. He had a nice offensive year last year and his defense is solid. He is fairly young as well. I don't understand why they would give up on a player like that? I thought Rortvedt would start in Fort Meyers as he caught for most of the pitchers that are there last year and his bat came along. They could have moved Kranson to AA his bat would play there just fine IMO. So they could have made room if they wanted to. I don't know who this Gelly guy is but they must like him more than Silva. I hope they are right because I think Silva has good chance to make it. Or is this move just some sort of payback to the Mariners for poaching Banuelos a way of evening out that trade for international money?

Nice to hear good things about Landon Leach. I had a hard time understanding that pick when they made it. There were a lot of good players on the board at that spot. I love hearing good things about the guys outside the top 20 or 30. This feels like it should be another good year for our affiliates. Hears to hoping new gems are created.

I think that will be a pretty tough lineup for other teams to face. I am a little surprised that Wander is not included in that group but I guess maybe they hope that Lewis is ready for High A by mid season and Wander comes up to replace him then. I wish them all well and hope for another great Low A season.
