  1. I think the Twins can afford to trade Odo or Gibby but not both. I would see what they can get for both and decide which one to trade. I would hate to lose Gibson but if some team overpaid I would totally trade him. I think he can be replaced if needed but I wouldn't let him go easily because the rotation for next year looks much better with Gibson penciled in. I don't see anyone really being interested in Rodney but who knows. I doubt that what they could get for him would be worth trading him. I bet they keep him. I can actually see a few teams wanting to grab Lynn not because he is great but he can get the job done and he would come cheap. Santana, who knows. If he pitches well maybe some team(s) will be interested. But again the return looks low because of the risk involved. Maybe August will be a better time to try and trade Santana of he has value then.
  2. While I get that the odds of Gordon ever becoming a Super Star like Lindor or Corea are grim. I guess I still don't understand the pessimistic view. The guy bats around 280 or 290 at each level. He has good contact skills as he doesn't strike out much and has a canon for an arm. He has been young for each level he has played at and is finally struggling a little in AAA like most players do. Pegging him as a likely Utility man at this stage seems incredibly pessimistic. The kid is still pretty skinny and needs some time to fill out so likely a bit a of late bloomer but if he is your standard for bust then apparently it is super star or bust for you. I agree it would be nice if the Twins only drafted super stars but every team would like to do that. Unfortunately it is hard to predict how players will perform. Gordon is far from their worst pick and I wouldn't even say a bad pick yet.
  3. Totally agree. If they were waiting for Larnach to show up so they could play together they have done that now so move him up. While I recognize stats in E-town mean very little I haven't seen anybody hit 400 there with a 500 OBP. Let this guy start seeing better breaking ball stuff and really see what kind of hitter he is. FWIW it looks like I will be eating my crow soon as I didn't like the Jeffers pick at all. Fangraphs seemed to be the only site that had him rated high enough to be taken where he was. I have to give credit to the Twins scouts and FO for this one as they took a risk but it looks like a good one. But please move him up, he does not seem challenged at the plate at all right now.
  4. That i snot an exciting return at all. I guess they feel Wahl is gonna be good.
  5. While I sympathize with your point I don't know that I completely understand where you are coming from. Trades are a big part of making teams better. One team is taking the short term upside the other the long term. Kansas City took a huge risk when trading with Tampa and it is that trade for pitching that really put them over the top. The Cubs made short and long term trades that took them to the World Series. Houston made lots of trades some for the future and some to get their World Series win most notably getting Verlander. So trades for the future most definitely do work. Not always, but there is risk in trading just as there is risk in not trading or having your young players not turn into star players. Most of the people on this board are only talking about trading players that will be free agents at the end of this year. A couple Odorizzi and Gibson have another year of control but either player being traded wouldn't mean the Twins would not be able to compete next year. I have seen a few posts recommending trading Buxton or Sano but you can't take those seriously. Also there seems to be a flaw in your thinking with Dozier and Escobar. Even if the Twins don't trade them they still might not be able to keep them because another team might offer more money or more years or both. Getting nothing for those players in a season where we have very little chance at the post season would be very poor team management if you ask me. There is no reason to blow this team up. As you said they are young and if a few players step up next year then this team will be just fine. Trading guys who will free agents at the end of the year is not blowing the team up just changing the window of contention. The Twins are getting closer to being a top tier team but they need their young players to be difference makers and we just didn't get that this year. Even the vets had a hard time this year. We have five or six guys that are free agents at the end of year. The Twins should do their best to shop them and find value. After the season is over they might even be able to trade some of those prospects for a MLB player. If this year is not our window we need to play for next year and beyond. You do that by trading.
  6. I guess I don't understand the narrative that Dozier doesn't want to be with the Twins next year. I thought he was just disappointed the Twins did not offer him an extension. The market was very strange last year so I can see why Twins are reluctant to do anything ahead of time. Also he is older so maybe the Twins are worried about regression but I don't think it is Dozier that doesn't to be here more the FO not wanting to strike a deal early. Let Dozier see what his worth is and how many years he can command on the market. The Twins might be able to sign him to a 2 year deal with a third year option or maybe even a reasonable 3 year deal depending on his value on the market if they want him back. They certainly will have the money to do that it just depends on where they want to allocate their money. Pitching or position players.
  7. I don't completely understand trade value especially for rentals but for Dozier to Milwaukee I would try and ask for Caden Lemons and Zach Brown. Lemons could end up a reliever as he currently only has two plus pitches but he is young and I like his upside. He could grow with the wave of young pitchers we currently have in the system. I really like Browns WHIP in AA and his K 9 looks fine as well. Might be risky again as a starter but solid bullpen arm would be his floor. If you don't like either of those maybe swap one of them for Carlos Herrera. He is 20 years old with three good pitches but the fastball could use a bump. Not sure if the Twins could get that for a rental or not. I really like the Phillies system and I think Escobar is a pretty good piece for them. Not sure if they could get this but I would see if they could get Ranger Suarez. He has four solid pitches and again a nice WHIP. He is their number 9 prospect. If they felt that was too high then Francisco Morales and another piece would do it for me. Morales is 18 and he could join the young hurlers we have coming up in the next wave. Those are my ideas pick them a part as you like.
  8. If they can't find a return they like I don't see the sense in rolling over, they still have August to get something done. I don't think they want to just trade him for a bag of chips. Just my opinion. Hopefully they get something good and get him back in the off-season.
  9. The Twins will only trade him if it nets a good return. It will depend on what teams are willing to pay in prospect value to pry him loose. I suspect it will take players in a teams top 10 to get him, but we will see. There are other options for teams. As we just saw the Indians were willing to pay the ultimate prospect price to net players with team control so it is hard to say what will happen with Esco. The Twins value what Escobar brings to clubhouse so they won't just trade him to trade him.
  10. Winning the division is a nice feeling no doubt and it means the team was fun to watch the entire season but I am more greedy than you are as I would like to win the division and feel like the team has a very good chance to win a playoff series or the World Series. I don't feel that way about this team and don't see how they can change that at this point in the season. So I just want them to do things that might help them get to that larger goal.
  11. I guess I am at a point where I don't even care if the Twins "catch" Cleveland and win the division. This team as currently constructed even if they won the division would likely be a worse team than the wild card selections. I am tired of just trying be good enough to win the division and living in the land of mediocrity. This team needs to do things to create a greater quality of talent, more depth, more options to acquire great talent. Do things that allow our team to compete with New York, Boston, and Houston. Sometimes that means sacrificing the present for the future by trading the assets you have to acquire better future talent. To build depth you need to play talent that is nearly ready for MLB to get experience. Personally I hope Cleveland makes the decision easy for us instead of leading us back to mediocrity by keeping the team we have and gaining no value.
  12. It is just another reason it makes sense to sell. You get prospects back and can give opportunity for other players to break in. Cleveland will fix its bullpen and we will not catch them. Hopefully that becomes obvious sooner than later.
  13. Nice analysis! Esco is Manny lite. He won't bring back a Manny haul but he should net a good return. I think the Phillies match up the best to get him but I guess we will have to wait and see.
  14. First of all to my eye I thought Cave was safe but I guess if the Twins didn't challenge that then not too much to complain about. I guess I don't understand the blocking the plate rule. To me it looked like the catcher had his foot on the plate without the ball but ultimately caught the ball before Cave completely made it to plate. So the catcher can be in the baseline receiving the ball as long as the ball gets there before the runner? Also by having his foot on the plate it looks like he might have gotten hurt so I am not sure how the rule is supposed to help with injuries then, but just like the Twins I probably don't understand the rule. If the Rays were throwing at Esco they did a poor job of it. I can understand everyone being on edge after the Balk call but bottom line they got in Esco's head and he struck out. The Ray's said all the right things so it doesn't appear to be one of baseballs unwritten rules and I have no idea what to think other than maybe Esco did over react. The Rays did not help themselves with the shift they put on with Dozier at third. If they weren't going to hold him on then really they got what they deserved. Maybe the Rays pitcher should have thrown a ball at the manager for that idiotic piece of strategy.
  15. That is some massive regression for Watson. Is he hurt or working on something? Glad they finally moved Jovani up a level. There are several other players that should move up as well. I hope they get a call soon.
  16. I am a big fan of littell. Not sure why he can't get it together in MLB. Here's hoping he can find the pitches he needs to be successful.
  17. Janigson Villalobos and Tyler Webb look like they are ready to move up a level. There is no one in front of Lewis at High A and they could move Severino to A ball and see how he does there. Lets keep these guys challenged I have no idea why Jeffers is in E-town except for getting some vacation time, maybe?
  18. With prospects you can always see the Glass half full or empty. Most of those guys on this list are young for the level, holding their own and have a tool or tools that appear to be above average. They are far from developed and anything can happen. If something clicks they go from good to great.
  19. I was really bummed with Slegers effort last night. He had me as a believer that he had enough stuff to play at this level. Watching him struggle you could only think AAAA is his level. I really wanted to believe he was going to defy the odds but if you can't miss bats you aren't going to make it. I doubt we will see him back at this level the rest of this year.
  20. Yeah I have never seen analysts at such a loss for words when the Twins picked Jeffers in the second round. To be honest I expected him to sign for half the slot amount. So I agree, I don't see Jeffers as your typical 2nd round pick. After complaining about the pick I do like his bat. I know Elizabethton stats mean nothing as Max Murphy exploded there and flamed out in AA but with an OBP of nearly 500 I think Jeffers will do OK as he moves up. High A ball will tell the tale. If he hits there I believe he will make it. Still between Jeffers and Larnach the Wonder Twins saved 1M in bonus pool money. I guess I don't know why they had to pay Sands and Kiersey so much over slot unless maybe they had deals in place for them? They did manage to nab a decent amount of high school guys with the savings I am just not sure they have as high of upside as you would like to see for those kinds of picks.
  21. I really like Arraez's bat. I haven't seen a player swing it that well in the minors since maybe Ben Revere. I hope he finds a defensive home because his bat is crazy good. I too thought Pearson would start in the short season league especially since he struggled last year. Glad I was wrong as it looks like he will be ready for A+ ball next year for sure. Jeffers OBP is almost 500. That is crazy good. He really needs to be better challenged with the bat hope they move him up soon. Not a fan of Diaz and never was a fan of that pick. He played well last year though and I think he has enough bat to stay on the list. Sometime guys need to repeat a level. I believe Polanco did and he made it. Diaz is young so I am not giving up on him yet. Glad to hear he is staying in shape. There is still time for the bat to turn around the rest of this year. Severino is a pleasant surprise. He is quite young so I wondered if the bat would play. He appears to have a good approach for being so young. Looks like a good pickup for the FO. I am pretty excited about all of these guys. They all have a pretty strong chance to make it. Hopefully they can meet the many challenges ahead and continue to be successful.
  22. I thought the scouting reports had him as a hard thrower 93-95 with good control (low # of walks). Work ethic\makeup was strong and based on talent potential of that class he would have been a second round talent if he didn't have the military commitment. Twins took him in the third round I guess thinking he was a steal of sorts but the Military commitment did bite them as he lost development time. I still like him but something more needs to click for him to be a starter. He gives up a fair number of hits and isn't missing a ton of bats at the lower levels. I am guessing that in time those number will look better but if they don't then he still has a good two pitch mix and throws hard enough to be a good reliever. Guy works hard and has the physical tools so I am not betting against him.
  23. I am frustrated, but still a big Littell believer. From what little I have seen I love the way he bends his pitches. If he can get that fastball to play up a bit more I have to believe he is a serious number 3. He has the secondaries to make it so I can see why the Twins brought him up over others. He seems to be on the Berrios track right now. Struggling to find that mix and refinement to get big league hitters out. Hopefully it won't take him as long to figure it out but IMO he has the stuff to make it and stick.
  24. Good to see Wells crack the top 30. Been watching that guy for a while and they got a steal where they drafted him. He was a strikeout machine in the lower levels and he continues to pitch well. I was hoping he would move up to AA soon so that he could possibly factor in to next year as an option for the big league club.
