  1. Spot on Shane, I don't dislike the guy, it's that the Twins have pitchers in the minors that I would rather see. Similar for Nolasco, except he hasn't pitched up to his career averages. Were Nolasco pitch to his career averages, I'm fine with him as the number 4 type starter.
  2. You know darn well that as long as they are a short stop, they can play anywhere on the field
  3. Nunez recovered nicely on that slicing line drive
  4. Disagree, free agent contracts are what they are. It's a market, and you pay to play.
  5. I dunno, when you lose 90 + games three years in a row and counting, no established player is, or should be, off limits.
  6. it appears that Hicks may be treated by the organization similarly to Gomez. At least that seems to be the direction. The move to the minors seems to be an admission of guilt, but it may be too late. I hope that is not the case that Hicks us being given up on, because I think the Twins traded Gomez at a time when they should have kept him and worked with him more. There's no telling if Gomez could have become the player he is today, had he stayed with the Twins, but he would have developed and improved over where he was. No matter what he would have been an improvement over Revere, and an OF of Gomez, Span, and Cuddy playing at or close to their primes, would have been pretty awesome. I'm afraid that the player to best be MLB CF in 2015 and beyond, with plenty of tools, has already been passed by for Sam Fuld.
  7. Jack, thanks for spending time with us and answering questions. SSS but have you noticed that you have the highest "Liked" to "Number of Posts" ratio on Twins Daily? Do you think you've earned a promotion from Single A as a result? I do, I like to ride the hot hand and challenge the minor leaguers. Also a serious question. In what ways has game day evolved with the ever increasing availability of information. We all see the defensive shifts, and some platoons, but does it get into identifying other trends, or even possibly identifying injury or improper mechanics or shifts in mechanics?
  8. But the part about "must be able to lift 55 Lbs" is a stretch
  9. I hope Cuddy gets a nice contract from a team other than the Twins
  10. Fantastic work. Great indicator of value in risk/reward, especially the tiered data sets.
  11. Edit: duplicate Im not a big fan of the Hermit, but have no problem with a short term move. i wonder if it indicates a move after the ASG...
  12. So your telling me that Kevin Correia isn't a cornerstone to build your rotation around?
  13. 1) Very well written, well articulated, article. Thank you 2) I don't think this issue is a Gardy issue as much as it is MLB/MiLB and professional sports in general. Players of all sports are under immense pressure to perform. 3) That doesn't excuse the Twins FO and Manager. The "whistleblower" for those of us in the corporate world is the comparable. Progressive and successful organizations welcome and promote the open communication culture. Conversely the majority of organizations do not and end up being forced to get with the times.
  14. Or at the very least, in year 2 raise your white flag in defeat and have the fire sale. Don't just cling to the past with your Kubel's, Bartlett's, Anderson's, and Gardenhire's, actually separate the wheat from the chaff and make real changes. That's what the best management does, it leads the way through the murky waters of change. Change is inevitable, change is good, if the GM isn't in front of the change, then the change happens without him/her. If it takes 5 years for a rebuild, so be it, but own up to the fact that the team being a product of Ryan/Smith got them to a very good stretch in 01-10, but also got 4 years and counting of horrendous baseball. Own it, and move on from it, change and grow from it, or step out of the way.
  15. if you are committed to rebuilding, you give the young guys a chance despite failure. If you don't intend for a player to last longer than one season, you don't have your undivided attention on the ultimate prize. The TR quote "why not us, why not now" speaks volumes about where TR thinks this team is going, and that appears to be down the same path they have been going over the last three terrible seasons. What does age tell you about the team? It tells you how committed to the future they are.
  16. I think this proves K.W.A.M.'s point. As little respect as I have for the FO, they give up on no asset that might have a smidgen of trade value. Worley wasn't on the 40, they received a little cash for him and no talent. I'm sure the cash was small consolation.
  17. Thanks JB. Is Nolasco's elbow injury the same injury that Pelfrey had to his groin? The conspiracy theorist in me thinks so, but....
  18. Great stuff! I now have a word for it. I'm a naturalist.
  19. I dunno... I haven't seen him throw post TJ. He might be the future 1b or DH.
  20. So Hermann is getting Parmeleed? Maybe.... It would be nice if Hermann became The Guy to take over behind Mauer, but he's not being treated like a catcher. Of course until Mauer went on the DL, Parms hasn't been treated like 1b either. i have my concerns with CF too. It seems like Buxton is it, that's a lot of eggs in one basket considering how far Hicks' stock has fallen.
  21. but he is consistent. He's consistently inconsistent. That's why he's a bad groundball pitcher. He has no idea where the ball is going. I would love it if he became the second coming of Brad Radke, but he's not Brad Radke. Do I want him to fail? No. Do I think he's going to be a viable starting pitcher? No.
  22. You said what I meant to, much better than I did, I was tired last night... But the FO can't be let off the hook either. This team started down this road before BS took over, but Smith expedited the process greatly. It was the FO (both Smith and Ryan) who put this team in the position of epic ineptitude in the first place. So the excuse of "free agents won't come here because we suck" means "free agents won't cone here because I [smith/TR] let this team go too long without infusion of fresh and improved talent." what do I mean in context of Correia? That he (or a player like him) would have been far more effective as a medium term contract in 2011 to build off of, and improve upon in 2012-2014. This no slight to Correia. He is what he is, and the Twins are getting what they paid for.
