  1. Can't agree more that the bullpen and outfield are serious issues, starting pitching is a big problem too. There might be some young starters and relievers on the way soon that should provide improvement, but outfield is a ways off.
  2. Umm, 82 games in the NBA season, so... 9/10 of a game, not a possession... True, don't overreact to the first few games of the season, but I like to think that if the team continues down this path, it becomes more likely real change is made this season. Not just a little lipstick on the sow
  3. it’ll be Stauffer, and then TR will sign some 45 year old career triple a player for the bullpen
  4. it absolutely matters who is holding the place. With a team that averages 37 years old (not serious, but close) 13 or more of the 25 are placeholders for every team.
  5. The Dude abides... But even the dude couldn't abide by letting that poor woman get killed. He's a pacifist when we need a Walter Dubcek to take action. As I see it, Pohlad is the Dude and Walter is the owner I want, ready to bring an mp5 sub machine gun and jump out of a moving vehicle that he is driving... Ok I got a little derailed, but the point is we've waited for 4 years, and year 5 looks just as crummy. When is the owner going to bring in a GM who will actually rebuild the team?
  6. TR hates young people. He shakes his fist at those 40 year old kids and their Walkmans and VHS players.
  7. so you have given up on the Twins and want to give Ploufe a chance to play on a winner? How magnanimous towards Plouffe. I feel that way towards Mauer
  8. agreed that his pay is irrelevant to his skill/ability/statistical probability of being good. Pay is relevant to expectations and most of the articles on TD and across Twins territory called Santana the 2nd or 3rd best pitcher in the rotation, it was obvious that the consensus was that Santana was going to be better than replacement level. Founded in level headed statistical analysis? Probably not, but that's not the point, the point is, if the GM thinks highly enough of Santana to hand him that kind of salary, there's going to be expectations of living up to it.
  9. if only Santana was the 5th starter, you need to expect more than 1-2 wins difference between a guy on a 20 mil per season contract and guy you just relegated to the bullpen, otherwise, why did you spend the money? Just float a whole rotation of Mike Pelfrey's because it's only the difference between 65 wins and 72 wins.
  10. One would think there would be provisions in the contract for such things. Something to the effect of "if the player gets convicted of PED use by MLB the remainder of the contract is null and void" might have done the trick
  11. Arizona Diamondbacks - 71.5 Over Atlanta Braves - 73.5 under Baltimore Orioles - 82.5 over Boston Red Sox - 86.5 over Chicago Cubs - 82.5 under Chicago White Sox - 81.5 under Cincinnati Reds - 77.5 over Cleveland Indians - 84.5 over Colorado Rockies - 71.5 under Detroit Tigers - 84.5 under Houston Astros - 75.5 over Kansas City Royals - 81.5 over Los Angeles Angels - 88.5 over Los Angeles Dodgers - 92.5 over Miami Marlins - 81.5 under Milwaukee Brewers - 78.5 over Minnesota Twins - 71.5 under New York Mets - 81.5 over New York Yankees - 81.5 under Oakland Athletics - 81.5 under Philadelphia Phillies - 68.5 over Pittsburgh Pirates - 84.5 under San Diego Padres - 84.5 under San Francisco Giants - 84.5 over Seattle Mariners - 86.5 over St. Louis Cardinals - 88.5 over Tampa Bay Rays - 78.5 under Texas Rangers - 78.5 under Toronto Blue Jays - 83.5 under Washington Nationals - 93.5 under Tie breaker 1: The two AL WC teams will be: Redsox and Mariners Tie breaker 2: The two NL WC teams will be: Nationals and Dodgers
  12. i would rather have Pinto's bat in the starting lineup at catcher
  13. this is the reason why I disagree with Nick's assertion that Robinson/Schafer was the breakout for defense. If the FO cared a bit about OF defense, Arcia and Hunter wouldn't both be the corner outfielders. If you need to sub out both corner outfielders to make a competent fielding outfield AND one of the subs is a catcher, something has gone awry. Edit: to clarify, I think the hope with CF is for one of them to catch lighting in a bottle and create trade value. I don't think its because the Team particularly wanted Hicks to get AAA time or that Schafer/Robinson were necessarily the best options.
  14. It's really fun seeing posters who aren't the usual suspects! I dunno Jim. Buxton and Berrios seem to be 2016 or later. Sano probably not until September. May should be taking Santana's spot right now and so far it looks like Pelfrey, so if May and/or Meyer with all of their minor league track records and upside combined can't beat Mike F'ing Pelfrey now? When? Bullpen, yeah if there isn't huge turnover throughout the season, it's because every pitcher at AA and AAA is having Tommy John all at the same time.
  15. TD is too negative! Terry Ryan needs to do something about it! How can he go into the season.... Hahaha Seriously, I like the differences of opinion and the mostly civil discourse that ensues. It's why I come back
  16. Washed up old never was city
  17. Very indepth and insightful, thank you
  18. we have no idea how the conversation went. By all accounts both TR and Pelf a standup guys, but it could have been something very different than what they are saying to the media. It also could have gone exa
  19. this 100%. I think May is going to triple a because he isn't stretched out enough to start the season, but there is still some time.
  20. not that I am a fan of how these races shook out, but if no one "won" the position, do you put in a rookie who isn't ready or a veteran who can't get any worse. I hope that Trevor May, Alex Meyer, Aaron Hicks and Eddie Rosario all earn their way onto the big league roster this season. Disappointed? Sure. Surprised? No. Maybe Milone and Robinson/Schafer will earn enough value to be trade bait. It's a long season, this isn't even the beginning yet
  21. pelf is in the pen, I gotta think the idea is trade Milone during the season. I'm with you though, I wanted May to start the season as the 5th starter. I too hope Hicks can figure it out in triple A.
