    As we saw in 2011-13, innings pitched per start matters. You need a consistent 5 plus, preferably 6 plus innings from all 5 starters in order to avoid a thin bench. Why did Gardy drive me crazy with three catchers and 13 pitchers on a 25 man roster? He didn't have the durability and command he needed from the two positions who touch the ball more than all of the other players on the diamond combined. I agree with the sentiment that Meyer needs to be in the bigs in 2015. As a reliever.... Maybe he can learn enough to improve his command to become a starter, or maybe he unseats Perkins, or maybe he's a fine setup man, or maybe his arm falls off, but at least he'll provide some value in the trade.

Sox look much improved but I think are missing the pitching depth to go on a prolonged hot streak. Agreed tho, Tigers, Royals, and Indians all have a very wide range of potential.

    While you are right that Molitor isn't Gardy, TR is still TR, and available options are what they are.

    and even more so, Ryan hasn't addressed CF thus far. Also hasn't addressed OF defense at all yet IMO, but in sure Ryan would disagree

    like others I too like the DH AL only, but in one of the few ways I have ever agreed with Gardy, this is one. I think it would be more interesting when during interleague play, it's the visitor rules that apply. It would make interleague and DH more interesting.

    all very true, but it is a big leap of faith to extend a 30 year old catcher having a career year. Last time they extended a catcher having a career year, they got burned badly. Very different comparing Mauer and Suzuki, and 6 mil is money Pohlad can find in his couch cushions, but it is still faithful. I think it was just as much an assessment of players other than Pinto. They have Pinto, Fryer and Herrman, none of whom have endured the entire ML season behind the dish, regardless of stats, how do you fill out a bench if you don't have at least one workhorse catcher? My concern is, they didn't test the water to find out if any of those three named could weather the rigor.

    the sad part is, the most important part seems to be the least emphasized. This team is best served by Santana at SS and Escobar at utility. Escobar can play three positions quite well, he will get his at bats to play 3-4 games per week. Santana on the other hand has much more potential and plays one position potentially very very well, and another position better than summer rec leaguers.

    August 31, 1993. I got to see Pedro Munoz hit the lead off homer in the bottom of the 22nd. I was 13, no cellphone and didn't have $7 in quarters or a calling card for a pay phone. I didn't call home and got in big trouble coming home so late, but it was worth it. I hate leaving games early, and do so rarely.

    no kiddin? Well then by all means, sign him. Is there such a thing as a bad one year contract? I just assumed the hold out into the new year was over years, it usually is.

    cap room? Outfield defense is a huge concern for me as well, but like Linus I would prefer to go FA route to acquire the talent. This is still a very thin team in regards to depth of talent a that is several years from really contending. Hold on to talent until the team is in a better place.

    you obviously think Colby a Rasmus would sign a short term deal. How short is short? How much of an overpay? I agree Rasmus could be a good solution for the Twins, I think to land would mean planning for him in a corner OF position when/if Buxton overtakes him at CF. Not certain all would be right in Twins world, but it would be a leap in the right direction.

    i think this says more about Hicks than Santana. Though I 100% agree if Rosario/Hicks/Buxton manage to impress, let them take over.

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/examining-the-projected-team-defenses/ Total team defense is projected to cost 26 runs including a good infield. If the twins score 714 runs again that's good for a .500 record. If they score closer to average of 2014 - 650 runs that would be a cost of 6 games (approx 75 wins).

    i disagree that a good CF fixes the outfield situation. One player cannot cover from foul pole to foul pole. A good fielding outfield can have Hunter or Arcia not both. That's not to say LF and CF require having no-bat speedsters. LF just needs to have enough range to be a good fielder so CF can shade to the right a bit. TF is smaller than Detroit, but so many outfielders have trouble with the RF wall. I'm not convinced TF will make Torii look like a better fielder.
