  1. I don't recall a timetable on the original injury report, but a quick google search indicates via reputable medical type sources that 60 days is the normal healing time period for stress reactions and stress fractures, but once a stress reaction heals, recovery time to full speed is much faster. I too am baffled as to why the team has indicated he'd be back in anything significantly less than 60 days. I agree that his bat is needed badly, however I don't agree he's only a DH. Sure this year just get him as many at-bats as you can while minimizing the stress on his legs, but next year get him back in the hot corner, or at the very least first base, preferably 3rd, he's proven to be serviceable there.
  2. Hi Joe, can you help us with our conundrum? Joe: Sure skip, Hmm.... This milk is bosky with umami overtones and a clean finish. It has legs and leaves a nice mustache. I give it an 86.
  3. hes earned the right to ask for market rate. I begrudge no one who earns their money. However, I would not extend him early. He's been very good this season, but first basemen can be found or created in many ways. I wouldn't extend him early. There isn't much risk to hedge by doing so.
  4. indeed they do. Why have a director of minor league operations who doesn't have authority to hire/fire/extend minor league managerial and coaching personnel? It's not like Steil is an intern. He's a director. I'm sure Falvine had influence in the decision, but maybe it was only Steil's decision. If were Brad Steil I would be PO'ed if my boss usurped my authority to hire and fire. I'm sure there would be discussions over qualifications and traits for what managers should be, and I would probably seek the new FO's input, esp with how new this all is for all of them. At the end of the day, directors need the authority to make decisions and autonomy to be accountable to their subordinates
  5. the timing will never be good. The hurricane sucks, but waiting until the cleanup was done in January or February would hurt him and the Twins org worse. It's never a good time to have to look for a new job. Having the discussion about "why" at the moment of truth is a bad idea. Discussions get heated and regretful things happen. Always best to inform briefly and end the conversation. Besides, I'm sure Doug has been given directions and shared expectations over the season that, I'm sure if Doug had an introspective moment, he'd know why.
  6. hes a good value at arb levels, and I have no issue with the guy. I just want the Twins to aim higher.
  7. im ok with tendering him once more. It wouldn't be all bad to find out if Gibby turned a corner in August, or if it was just leveling out to career norms. I'm of the opinion it was most likely the latter. However if it was the former, maybe Buck can be a pitching coach too!
  8. hes a good fielder at 3rd, ok at SS and 2nd and .750 OPS hitter. .750 OPS starts at SS if you're a defensive whiz. It don't start at 2nd or 3rd. He's no defensive whiz either. I maintain hes a valuable utility fielder, but no cornerstone. LNP was no core player either. Check out the similarity score on bbref. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/escobed01.shtml Number 1 is ...
  9. I like EE a lot, but hes a utility player. Important and good utility player, but utility none the less. Tough to put him in the "Core".
  10. RA Dickey - I thought he was going to have a second round with the Twins this summer, instead big Sexy came to town
  11. specialists can be very, very effective. Reading the tea leaves of roster construction, it appears that most GMs would agree that a specialist relief pitcher saves more high leverage runs (wins mores games) than a bench bat scores high leverage runs (wins more games). Kind of a loosey goosey WPA exercise to analyze roster construction. The challenge here is tactics. Best laid plans by the GM get wasted if your manager continually puts down the bunt sign with your bench bat at the plate, or leaves your LOOGY in for a whole inning.
  12. agreed on your point that the strategy is sub-optimum. I never said it was "good", I said it was "widely accepted". It is in no way, shape, or form novel, trickery, or unconventional.
  13. LOOGYs are extremely prevalent as MLB pitching staffs have grown to be 12-13 as the norm. Like it or not, it's no longer a gimmick, it's a well used strategy to glean talent from the margins. I do agree that the bullpen needs to be improved, however the margin isn't the concern. The concern with the bullpen is lack of depth at the 7th,8th,closer roles. One of the best/cheapest ways to develop that talent is to promote youth to the bullpen ALA Trevor Hildenberger.
  14. i wish there were a "really really like" button. Fantastic! Like squared!
  15. In the average living room there are 1,242 objects Joe Mauer could use to hit a soft single to left-center, including the room itself. #joemauerfacts.com
  16. "what is that, velvet?" Got real old, real fast
  17. Anyone else perplexed by the SS in LF and 3 outfielders on the bench
  18. espn is wrong.... huh.... Well then it doesn't make sense to add him back now. He's ineligible for post season
  19. the concussion might be an issue. It's hard to tell. I hadnt really considered a 2018 thing, but now that you bring it up, it might be an impetus to sign a free agent backup catcher in the offseason. I don't think they need a 3rd catcher however. Let's see what Garver can do. You still have CG to fall back on. Recker is on the 40 and can be active in the post season in a pinch.
  20. http://www.jaguars.com/team/football-staff/daniel-adler.html Interesting bio
  21. arb could put Escobar in the 4 mil range. Kind of a lot for a utility player. I would rather keep Escobar, he's a good utility player. Just trying to predict
  22. they're called crutches, they take the weight off of your leg. Even skinny people use them. It can take 6-8 weeks to recover no matter your weight
  23. Goodrum has played all over the diamond for Rochester. Potential heir apparent to Escobar?
