  1. i forgot he still has an option. Hate to burn it in a recovery effort. It’d be nice to keep it in your pocket in case he’s still not 100% next year, worst case scenario, though he’s apparently throwing 100 so good sign. Good stuff Thrylos
  2. I'd think if he starts the season on the DL, he'd go to Extended Spring training first, no?
  3. I don’t think Hughes will pitch for the Twins again, so if he does, it will surprise me. Low bar... but possible. Side note, what does a second TOS procedure mean? They didn’t remove a second rib, did they?
  4. as a starter, k rate aggregates to more Ks over a season. He’s absolutely more valuable as a starter if he can get healthy and stay healthy.
  5. here's a couple good links - looks like Jaime Garcia is the poster child and Josh Becket is what to expect. https://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2015/7/1/8859137/thoracic-outlet-syndrome-pitcher-effectiveness https://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/pitchfx-forensics-matt-harvey-and-thoracic-outlet-syndrome/
  6. according to the cub reporter, a player that adheres to the inter’l pool cap (16-25) cannot be signed to an MLB contract. In other words they get a minor league deal and go through the same pay scale for domestic players with the 500k min for three years plus three years arbitration http://www.thecubreporter.com/international-signing-bonus-pool He’s 24 so if he waited a year he’d be a street free agent able to sign market rate contract
  7. its semantics I guess, but with the aid of hindsight, they traded away a rental middle reliever (in most organizations) and a rental 4th starter. They got back two double A pitchers, an A ball pitcher, and int’l pool cap. Is that really a sell? It’s not like they traded away Dozier, Santana and Mauer
  8. to add, Garcia was a rental and was realistically going to add at most a win or two over a realistic replacement. Littel and Enns appear to have significant value to the depth of rotation for the 2018 MN Twins as the 6-7 or 7-8 guys and help avoid the Big Sexy type acquisitions. I see it more inspirational than not.
  9. If you could sign Darvish and Ohtanni, then trade Santana, I'd be OK with it. If you had to trade away Santana to open up the wallet first, my concern would be the last player standing without a chair and being forced into making a bad trade to give up too many prospects.
  10. Kepler is terrible against lefties, so you don’t really gain an advantage over Mauer when a lefty starts... I’m not against Gomez, I just don’t value the fielding part enough relative to pitching, that I’d spend that money on him, potentially not spending it on pitching. This acquisition should be late in the off-season.
  11. With Buxton, Kepler, Granite and Rosario all capable of playing CF, you want to add another CF? I’d prefer a bat first type who can pass in RF and 1b.
  12. I hope Park can rebuild his Korean stroke and become the slugger he once was. Too bad it didn’t work in the MLB
  13. Agreed with others thankful for TD and the mods. Thankful for the upcoming payroll flexibility and hopeful Falvine will make good use of it.
  14. 20 mil posting fee 3 mil bonus 550k 2018 salary 550k 2019 salary 550k 2020 salary ??? 2021 Arb ??? 2022 Arb ??? 2023 Arb so locked into 25 mil over 3+ years for a pitcher is too much? As the free agaent market on Cobb and Lynn looks to be 4 years 40-60 mil.... seems like a pretty smoking deal if you ask me.
  15. http://www.thecubreporter.com/international-signing-bonus-pool Ahem... "A player subject to ISBP restrictions cannot be signed to a Major League contract"
  16. Do you think Thorpe gets moved to the Bull Pen to try to simplify/speed up his development plan?
  17. there's enough bullpen options available that Falvine can let the market play out a bit. No need to overpay in this free agent class of BP arms.
  18. agreed. they could be looking to acquire more than one starting pitcher this offseason. They couldn't acquire both via free agency as it would handcuff them for future payroll nor could they trade for both as it would gut the farm.
  19. wouldnt Levine have just kept Melo on the 40 man?
  20. Why would they protect Melo if he just passed through waivers? Why would a team draft a guy via rule 5 that they could have put a waiver claim against just a couple weeks prior. And why would Levine put Melo through waivers if he was worried about losing him either via waivers or rule 5?
  21. sorry, worded poorly... you’d Bat a DH in his place...
  22. strategically, on days he pitches you,d DH him so the relievers wouldn’t bat? Then DH him for the other pitchers 2-3 turns in the rotation? Maybe give him an off day or two before he starts, keep other legs fresh like Mauer/Sano?
  23. because he’s under 25 he gets a minor league deal just like a drafted player. Signing bonus is limited to signing by cba
  24. yu Darvish didn’t get a QO. Win-win
