I’m with you, can it be as simple as they see the home-away splits and are selling based on that? I also wonder how much of a boon he’d see pitching for the Twins especially when looking at the park factors, target field doesn’t exactly suppress homers particularly against right handed hitters. That being said, I’m in favor of such a trade for the right price.

he was drafted from high school only a year ago. He’s in high A, a huge jump from High a to double, a big jump to triple A, and another huge jump to the bigs. Every step along the way, another learning curve and more challenges than we as fans can understand. That’s not horribly wrong, it’s just that development is a non-linear progression. Can’t mark it on your calendar even in pencil

Lewis is entirely irrelevant. It’s pretty optimistic to commit to Polanco at SS for 3 years to bank on a high school SS drafted in 2017. Gordon with his MLB pedigree was supposed to be a sure thing, drafted in 14, and will prolly debut in 19, but would be foolish to depend on him. I have more faith in Lewis, but not for 20, and prolly just a cup of coffe in 21. They could sign Manny Machado this offseason and it isn’t going to impact plans for Lewis in ‘21/‘22.

These two topics combined is where I’m at. He doesn’t have the footwork/speed for the lateral movement required for 3rd combined with he hasn’t stayed healthy while at third. They might not be related, however maybe the move across the diamond would help keep him healthy. He’s tall, has a good wing span, and has the ability to pick it, if he can get to it. His arm would be wasted at first (same with Mauer). I’m firmly of the belief that Polanco and Sano on the left side of the infield leaves huge gaps in the standard alignment. Gotta improve SS or 3B. If f I had to choose 1, it would be SS. I tend to align with the “field well up the middle” dogma. Sano has the potential stick to overcome his fielding deficiencies. Polanco hits well, but not enough to overcome the fielding issues. He also has lateral range issues and a so-so arm that’s exacerbated by his range. SS has more fielding opportunities and with a greater opportunity for double play. Looking at the free agent market, this would mean giving up on some hit tool. The options available look to be one sided (hit well or field well, not both). It would shorten the lineup some if Castro and Buxton are your C and CF. If Garver and Kepler are your C and CF, or if Buxton somehow miraculously figures out how to hit, the lineup could handle a black hole at SS, especially if you can pull off a Goldschmidt trade.

I don’t see it as money, as much as trying to compete with a 24 man roster.

Salami slicing is embezzlement, not money laundering.

the whole premise of the thread is if AZ wants to offload the contract, the prospect cost of acquiring Greinke would be low, and if the Twins take all including the deferral could even bring back a couple flier prospects or lower the prospect cost of acquiring Paul Goldschmidt.

https://mobile.twitter.com/maria_torres3/status/1059579274510782464 He suffered a setback from his 2017 labrum surgery that is supposed to be 4-6 weeks until he can throw again. It’s not impossible, but not looking good.

I dunno, he’s getting up there, check out the gray... but 2018 was pretty solid for Span. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/spande01.shtml

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/11/angels-designate-alex-meyer-for-assignment.html That trade didn’t really work for anyone, Nats, Twins, or Angels did it?

I think shedding payroll is the only reason AZ is trading Greinke and Goldshmidt. I'd take them both, full contract, I would guess the prospect wouldn't be huge either. I don't think they will and are just as likely to go the other way, but a guy can dream...
  13. Richie the Rally Goat
thanks for clarifying payroll with arb estimates. I couldn’t agree with you more. Every trade the FO has done so far has been to bring back prospects, including Pressly who was still under contract for ‘19. Just cuz they haven’t traded the blue chips away yet, doesn’t mean they won’t. They haven’t shown their hand yet for 19, but in the short while they’ve been at the helm the trades have been of the prospect hording variety. All of the improvements to the current team have been of the low wattage free agency variety. I have more confidence in this FO to build a winner, I’m less confident it’ll be in ‘19

about 128 mil opening day to about 65 mil after World Series and turning over 30% of the active roster isn’t a tear down?
  15. Richie the Rally Goat
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/minnesota-twins Good to get something rather than lose Anderson to the rule 5 for nothing.
  16. Richie the Rally Goat
As of today, the Twins have 60-65 mil committed for 2019 and to really compete the roster needs to change 30% with significant questions about 2/3 of the cornerstone players. If that's not a rebuild, what is?

If the owner doesn't have the customer (fan) first of mind, then what is the point? just fold up shop... The thing is, the Twins org keeps renovating TF and they did make a change at GM, so clearly St Peter gets it. I'm just not sure JP does. I don't think JP knows the difference between a business and an investment. When he gets asked about his investment by sports media, the media members don't want to know about his ROI, they want to know about the business of the Twins. Successful business delight their customer. Successful investments make money for their shareholders and customer service is entirely out of the equation. So why do we continue to get business questions of the investor instead of the business man? Also, I wonder at what threshold does the approval process for outlays escalate from DSP to JP? Is it functional, or dollar value? Question 3, the deal for Target Field tied the Twins to the stadium for 30 years, negating contraction, why doesn't JP sell? The team was purchased for 44 mil, it's worth 1.1 bil - I don't care who owns the team as long as the lease holds the team to TF. https://www.forbes.com/teams/minnesota-twins/

we’re in an 8 year rebuild with no end in site. True, Falvey and Levine were hired because year 6 wasn’t any better than year 1 under TR, but that shouldn’t give the FO license to shoot for the decade.
  19. Richie the Rally Goat
Judy from Big Lake was spot on “First of all, I wanted to tell you what a horribly disappointing season this was for season-ticket holders; and I want to know how long do you think it’s going to be before you put a competitive team back on the field?” If Pohlad would rather not spend the money to buy pieces to a good team, then how long will it take to build a good team and will we the fans continue to buy tickets, concessions and shirseys? This really sounds bad in context with Mauer's retirement tribute of something to the effect of "I remember when we extended him, we were in Costa Rica on vacation" or something.
  20. Richie the Rally Goat
Agreed on all three, they should be on the waiver wire shuffle as free agency and trades start to go through
  21. Richie the Rally Goat
As thin as the Twins are in the infield that Arraez isn’t a given too.
  22. Richie the Rally Goat
The Hu jokes in the comments live on!
  23. Richie the Rally Goat
    they did re-sign Matt Belisle
  24. Richie the Rally Goat
so what is your plan? How would you approach the off-season.
  25. Richie the Rally Goat
Fantastic! Well reasoned, well written! I’d love to see a move similar to these proposals actually happen for Falvey this offseason.
