  1. Per LEN3 https://mobile.twitter.com/LaVelleNeal/status/1149761839032676353 I’m not sure how releasing De Jong allows LEN3’s assertion of Romero being activated. DeJong was outrighted to Rochester in April and therefore not on the 40 man roster.
  2. https://www.mlb.com/news/twins-activate-jake-odorizzi-dfa-adalberto-mejia Park has a nice blurb on DFA too I was hopeful Mejia could transition to the pen, but I’m not surprised.
  3. Chris Schad would agree with the OP. https://puckettspond.com/2019/07/12/minnesota-twins-kyle-gibson-might-high-maintenance-pitcher-baseball/?utm_campaign=apple-news&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=apple-news I would not... Gibson has been streaky, and maddeningly nibbly this season, however he has shown ability to throw strikes and work quickly. I think he can get there again, but if not, he’s still an improvement over Pineda and probably an improvement over Perez, most certainly better than AlkaSchmeltzer, who I like. If the Twins trade for a frontline starter, moving Perez and his one stupid pitch to the Pen makes most sense. It’s a dang good pitch, but it seems a bit predictable in a starting pitcher role, like Mike Pelfrey.
  4. Yarni was responding to a post up thread that seemed to me to over simplify flexibility, I was agreeing and providing additional context, but apparently not very clear on my stance
  5. exactly - this 2019 team has a special kind of flexibility. One that shouldn’t be downplayed with statements like “the outfield spots are the same” or “first and third are interchangeable”.
  6. 2005-11, 3B was played by the likes of Brian Buscher, Tony Batista, LNP, the corpse of Joe Crede, and Danny Valencia. Twins fans were thrilled in 2012 to get the “stellar” play of Trevor Plouffe. Most of that time, Justin Morneau was playing first base (2011 injury shortened). Imagine having Morneau at the hot corner so you could find a suitable filler at first...
  7. it’s worth every penny of that $5 per month. Trueblood thinks Boyd has sustainability due to an overhaul of his slider, change and four seems to all tunnel together, as well as track record of health. He went so far as to compare Boyd to Sale. If you were a subscriber you might recall Trueblood also predicted Gibson breaking out, so.... TBD I guess.
  8. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/51304/rubbing-mud-the-how-and-where-and-why-of-matthew-boyd/
  9. agreed, but if we’re not going to use the tools available to us to debate a subject, every forum topic would just be a game thread. There wouldn’t need to be a forum at all, just one long game thread on wild tangent after wild tangent.
  10. “1.5 years of an ace” and then comparing Stroman to Gibson... Gibson is no “ace” either. Gibson is a good comp. 2019, Perez is a better comp with recency bias. Clearly I’d take Stroman over either Gibson or Perez. Stroman would absolutely bolster the middle of the Twins rotation, not compete w/ Berrios for #1, let alone “ace” (definition of ace TBD). Stroman K% 18.6 Whip 1.26 FIP 3.81 Berrios K% 21.6 Whip 1.11 FIP 3.83 Odorizzi K% 26.8 Whip 1.12 FIP 3.59 Gibson K% 23.6 Whip 1.26 FIP 4.05 Perez K% 20.7 Whip 1.37 FIP 3.7 Giles would clearly be the best reliever on the team. Does his being a bit notorious reduce the price? Giles K% 43.4 Whip 1.0 FIP 1.49 Rogers K% 31.9 Whip .98 FIP 2.77 Funny enough, Pressly would not be a clear cut upgrade over Rogers (but dang it’d be great to get him back, wouldn’t it? Pressly K% 31.3 Whip .78 FIP 2.97 I lost track of where I was going with this... oh yeah, Graterol is a heck of a prospect. Him plus a couple B/C prospects should get it done huh?
  11. Apparently the Twins and Yankees have looked in on packaging Giles and Stroman. I'd be very OK with it, if the price is right. One of the Twittereres suggested Graterol....Straight up? maybe...
  12. clearly what I think doesn’t matter. Falvey and Levine have both said things to the effect of “we’ll supplement when the time is right, but we won’t spend for the sake of spending” In other words, “if we don’t have to spend, we won’t”. If they can coast into the post season, they will. Making it competitive makes it more likely the team gets improved for a post season run.
  13. that is the silver lining. If the lead was still double digits over the Indians, Falvine might not be so inclined to improve the team before the trade deadline
  14. agreed, as trade bait, he’s way more valuable off the 40
  15. he looked active, but now that you mention it.... went to the blue wahoos website, and he’s still on the IL.Rats! Come on up Devin Smeltzer
  16. Sunday’s starter is TBD. Maybe Graterol makes his debut? I hope... since I’m going to the game and don’t really want to watch a bullpen game....
  17. Magill is M1, May is M2, the tell is WPA. May gets used in higher leverage situations, and keeps the ball in the park better, but otherwise Magill has higher K rate and lower BB rate.
  18. Parker would prolly be 2 on my list. Re: May- Below one is May, the other is Magill. Depending on the extent of value put on the pitcher’s “ability” to keep the ball in the park. They are very comparable. M1 K9 10.8 Bb9 4.73 HR9 1.01 WPA .54 M2 K9 9.79 Bb9 5.04 HR9 .59 WPA .79 Depends on who you think you can continue to work with. Maybe May still has the higher upside over Magill and Magill is the third one out, if you need to make room for a third reliever.
  19. Add May to this list. He’s been ok as middle relievers go, but erratic and hasn’t taken any steps forward. Duffey has been better lately, but needs some consistency too. Agreed, Morin is first on my list to go.
  20. adding a starter and moving Perez or Pineda to the pen could improve both Agreed with others. Improve the pitching. If there’s an Ace with control available do it.
  21. Allen is in Cedar Rapids
  22. Either Allen is coming up or a trade is in the works. Allen has only had a couple appearances, so it could be a trade...
  23. Gleeman and the Geek had a good synopsis of the coaching work done with Sano to help explain/describe his recent skid. The way Gleeman said it, the FO read Parker's TD article on fixing his swing and took free advice.
  24. The study isn't about how healthy the players are, but how having more mass correlates to injury. A person can strengthen muscles using exercises. Is it possible strengthen ligaments, or does Miguel Sano have the same ligaments I do? If so, would my ligaments continue to hold up if I put them through the same rigor?
