  1. What does that mean?
  2. They have zero pitchers that’ll get anywhere close to 150 innings, and a couple that could just crack 100 to 110 provided health. There’s no starting pitchers on the market yet that would break that 150 inning mark either. Barring a massive super trading spree that brings back 2-3 starting pitchers and wipes out the farm (highly unlikely Falvine part with their prized lottery tix) 2022 will be almost entirely bullpen games anyways just like it was in ‘21
  3. And to cap it all off: Twins Daily Winter Meltdown guest of honor he was awesome! Really great anecdotes, lots of fun! He started my love of the Twins back in ‘84
  4. I’m with you. alternatively Twins don’t swing a trade, but do sign Pineda 1) Pineda (signed) 2) Ober 3) Bundy 4) Ryan piggy back Jax 5) Dobnak piggy back Thorpe
  5. wRC+ is adjusted relative to your peers (position, season, etc) Thompson in 1972 had a 99, 100 being average relative to his peers, he had one league average season. Every season outside of ‘72 was slightly below average to terrible, so no… he couldn’t hit, but that’s not important. What is important, is that Thompson made an impact on you, brought you closer to the game, that eventually brought you here where we all benefit from you being a member of our community. so thanks to Danny Thompson for flashing the leather and instilling the love of baseball into Twins fans of the 70s and giving us all something to talk about in these bleak times.
  6. I had to lookup Danny Thompson - 28 wRC+ that year... that must have been serious leather to overcome swinging a pool noodle at the dish
  7. Oh man.. I got ALL the feels.... sniff
  8. 14 hits, 4 HBP in that sample. He led the league in HBP in 1987 (actually ‘84-‘87) no one crowded the plate like Baylor, just turn around and let it plunk him
  9. I don’t think the Twins have the roster space to be able to sit on Duffy. They would need an open space, sign him, then after opening day 60 day him, then when he’s healthy DFA someone. sure there’s roster churn (something we’re certain to see in ‘22) but with the current state, all hands will need to be on-deck. there’s no one on the staff that will pitch 150 innings for the Twins in ‘22. Optimistically they acquire 1, maybe 2…. Hopefully that’s “Good innings”but we’ll see… That means lots of guys will need to pitch 80-100 innings and Duffy ain’t gonna be one of ‘em…
  10. Kent Hrbek lit the flame for me - Kirby threw gas on the fire
  11. Buxton plays 150 games in CF, wins the MVP in a land slide to a World Series championship and Nick Gordon spells him every other week to keep Buxton fresh. In 10 years after a second extension and hall of fame career with 7 MVPs averaging 148 games per season, Buxton will retire and a yet to be drafted rookie will take over
  12. Most likely a bit of both, value is in the eye of the beholder and value changes. to that end, if Berrios were willing to accept the deal he got from the Jays to stay a Twin, I’m embarrassed for both parties to not budge from their assumed starting points
  13. Managing to get a pitcher a Win, starts with the Starter, therefore 5+ innings, get the lead, turn it over to the setup man and closer, which is great and has a high correlation to team wins but only 34% Win, 35% loss and 31% no decision. Statistically what does that tell you? Not much how does Baldelli manage to that stat with his current rotation? Does holding to that stat box Baldelli into a corner?
  14. Wander Javier as a 22 year old posted an 86 wRC+ in high A for 96 games. He needs to go back to high A or move on. Steer had a 99 wRC+ AA as a 23 year old - he needs to show more in AA, but has posted strong batting in years prior and could get promoted soon. Palacios has been floated as a utility player for the Twins, and I would support that. As I see it, you've got Steer, Lewis, Martin to share SS and 2b, etc between AA and AAA - I don't think it's as much of a log-jam as it appears, but a log-jam is a good thing when you don't really have a starting SS in the bigs right now.
  15. And Scene.... Thank you everyone for viewing our text reenactment of the touch 'em all pub crawls, the winter melt downs, and all of the other times actually met in person prior to Covid Ah.. the good old days when we met in person
  16. managing around a stat is always wrong? really? throw all the data out and use your gut instinct then? I disagree with this, and I think you do too, just poorly worded Managing around the SAVE stat as one that doesn't actually improve outcomes for winning the most games is wrong, just like Pitcher WINS or quality starts. WPA or another stat that does actually correlate strongly with winning the most games should be the practice along with bringing in qualitative information that you don't yet have a metric for. Absolutes are "always" tricky
  17. Dy-cuss according to names.org
  18. The state of the rotation and prospects for adding to it before the season starts has me down on the FO. If the pitching development comes through and they surprise me in ‘22. I would be thrilled to see them stay if it doesn’t and the team craps the bed, Falvine should not be the ones to oversee the rebuild. 2022 is the pivotal year Edit to add, Strategies seem sound per Seth’s comment but execution has driven me insane. Maybe Levine needs to go, Falvey stays.
