  1. Shouldn't the 4th though have been Italian hospitals? Italians sure are smart. Augie Ojeda (or Brett Fabre) is a fantastic way to give someone intravenous fluids. Go Twins
  2. thanks! He's my second. I also have a 3 year old daughter, when I was home for parental leave with her, I finally after 2 years went from Lurker to Poster. Seems like parenthood and TD go well together for me and my children.
  3. my son was born yesterday. I'm reading to him from TD
  4. Good stuff, thanks to Seth and Keith. I wish I weren't traveling for work right now.
  5. i don't know how much influence Hughes has, as much as I can guess that over the course of a season hard hit balls are caught less frequently than soft hit balls. His ERA must correlate at some point, right? I realize that I'm trying to do some loosey-goosey predictive assumptions but it seems to make sense in my head. Otherwise, if ERA is entirely in the pitchers control, what is the point of FIP?
  6. His hard hit rate is highest of his career as well, which adds some support to your gut http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=7450&position=P Only so many of those hard hit balls will be catchable by Buxton
  7. The DFA'd DanSan who clearly was claimed. Getting anything not on the 40 man is better than nothing
  8. Louie Opatz has some good analysis of the situation w/ Joe http://www.twinkietown.com/2017/5/5/15540728/what-exactly-is-joe-mauer-up-to-contact-babip-strikeouts-walks-minnesota-twins-mlb
  9. Springsteen's early work was/is amazing and I agree he's at his best in the stripped down setting. I love Nebraska, fantastic album. The Rising has grown on me in the context of post World Trade Center America.
  10. but that's the issue with trading away pitching isn't it? Depth is thin, so you can't really trade it away unless you're getting back 2 close to major league ready pitchers. That's tough to swing.
  11. Erv's BABIP is .074 compared to his career .285. His FIP is .284 compared to last year's .381 and career .421. So he's pitching better, but he's also benefitting from Buck and extremely lucky. Count me as skeptical but very happy with the results. I certainly wouldn't extend him, but the rotation needs depth, which trading him most likely thins. Enjoy the ride and hope for the best, I guess
  12. Twin Cities: Pizzeria LolaChicago: Giordano's, or Gino's East depends on my mood
  13. According to Wikipedia it weighs 100 short tons or 98 long tons. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_Gate
  14. The Twins petitioned for and were granted a 4th option year for Vargas. I did not see the same for Kepler. Eligibility does not necessarily mean that it was granted by the players association. Maybe it was and I missed it.
  15. also, a number of people from the old regime are still in the ranks. It takes time to assimilate or jettison those people.
  16. hes been on the 40 man since 2014 season. He's out of options
  17. Mauer's OPS is better against righties .793 to .610 vs lefties. Hes my pick for most DH at bats this year at 350. Pretty quickly Park will make his case to get added to the 40 and play a big chunk of first base, but still get 200 ABs at DH
  18. if Liriano came up w/ Thorasic Outlet Syndrome, yep I'd call him worn down. Age and innings are two components, and illustrated very well by your posts here that there's correlation, not necessarily causation, and that there's more to the miles argument. One component is injury rate, type of injury, recovery period and reparation. TOS and taking out part of a rib to improve circulation seems like a "you're getting old, let's see what we can do to extend your career". Maybe some day it'll become a more clear cut "fix" like Tommy John Surgery. When Tommy John had his procedure done it wasn't exactly a perfect success, it took a few tries. Best case scenario for Hughes, is he extends his career a bit. His circulatory issue isn't really "fixed" it's mitigated. As to the CC comp...CC started much higher, there's more room for struggle and still be better than alternatives.
