    I think hat's changed is that Cleveland was supposed to dominate the division, and hasn't yet. Agreed with those above, can't really go "all-in" but need to improve the rotation and bullpen for this year and 2-3 years to come.

    Mauer is signed thru 2018. It's very possible Brent Rooker takes over 2019. If he or another in house option isn't available/ready, a Mike Napoli type is usually available. I'm not worried about Vargas/Park. Time to get Granite a taste of the bigs. Can never have too much ML talent

    I think Berrios' failure in 2016 led to his success of 2017. Berrios hadn't really failed previously. He's shown the fortitude to overcome that failure. I think that fortitude is an important soft skill required to make that early jump viable. As a person by person trait, some people have it, and others don't. It seems the FO saw that fortitude in Jorge, and in Romero, to where they thought, if they stretch those guys further than they are ready, they will respond positively and make the adjustments and put in the work to realize the goal. I do like the idea of stretching many of these double A pitchers to get the youth movement started. It will also provide a mechanism to pull the whole "supply chain" of minor league pitching forward. The Twins need to develop depth behind Jorge, Romero and Gonsalves in a hurry.

    thanks! He's my second. I also have a 3 year old daughter, when I was home for parental leave with her, I finally after 2 years went from Lurker to Poster. Seems like parenthood and TD go well together for me and my children.

    i don't know how much influence Hughes has, as much as I can guess that over the course of a season hard hit balls are caught less frequently than soft hit balls. His ERA must correlate at some point, right? I realize that I'm trying to do some loosey-goosey predictive assumptions but it seems to make sense in my head. Otherwise, if ERA is entirely in the pitchers control, what is the point of FIP?

    Springsteen's early work was/is amazing and I agree he's at his best in the stripped down setting. I love Nebraska, fantastic album. The Rising has grown on me in the context of post World Trade Center America.

    but that's the issue with trading away pitching isn't it? Depth is thin, so you can't really trade it away unless you're getting back 2 close to major league ready pitchers. That's tough to swing.

    Erv's BABIP is .074 compared to his career .285. His FIP is .284 compared to last year's .381 and career .421. So he's pitching better, but he's also benefitting from Buck and extremely lucky. Count me as skeptical but very happy with the results. I certainly wouldn't extend him, but the rotation needs depth, which trading him most likely thins. Enjoy the ride and hope for the best, I guess
