  1. Thanks Travis for a very good article, but especially for your time on the Q&A. Good for you to go back to school. How did you decide on finance?
  2. agreed, might be too station to station, especially if the playoff dead ball is the ball for the 2020 season
  3. agreed, I’d sign CJ for one or two years because I think Sano can hold down 3B for a couple more years, at least.
  4. much like Manager, there are only 30 bench coach jobs in MLB. What if Rowson doesn’t accept the Marlins job and Shelton doesn’t leave? Someday never comes. Rowson took an elite job with a clear step up in responsibility in-line with potential for future manager opportunities. He absolutely made a good career move, no matter what happens with Shelton. Edit to add: no job opportunity comes without risk. The marlins have a difficult road in front of them, but that is why the job came open, and inherent in these types of job openings.
  5. Mr Rowson has been great for the Twins and I’m very happy for him. Bench coach is a great step for him and I’m still not sure what an offensive coordinator does, but innovation is good. The Twins FO has shown a keen eye for coaching talent, and I’m confident they’ll replace Rowson with another very good hitting coach.
  6. yup, talent evaluation in all of its many forms is critical to developing internal players and identifying external candidates. I don’t think the Twins were bad at prospect evaluation, under TR/WS. I think lots of teams are very good talent evaluators. It’s tough to gain a competitive edge, when there are 25 teams all really good at talent evaluation. There are fewer teams really good at talent development and flaw fixing. Houston is one of the best at all 3.
  7. 100% agreed, you got the money, spend it on pitching... they don’t need a ton on position players, and a no bat all glove SS is cheap... plus you’ll still need the pitching depth at AAA. It would be great if that depth was Devin Smeltzer and not Andrew Albers.
  8. the stand alone episodes bugged me too. Season 3 should have been about 8-10 episodes... but I suppose the deal was for a “full season” so it had to be 15 or whatever. I still enjoyed it.
  9. Sano has a rod inserted in his leg and nasty/infected cut on his foot. Maybe a healthy and non-snake-bitten offseason will get his mobility back in shape. I’d also go to arb with Cron and keep Lewis playing SS, 3rd and CF. Flexibility is key.
  10. I’ve watched it through twice. Very much enjoyed it
  11. can you expand on why Cleveland would be favored over the Twins? I would be shocked if they didn’t rebuild.
  12. I think the change is to break the opposite way as his slider (and maybe curve, we’ll find out) to pitch effectively against lefties. Whatever that breaking pitch we saw this year was, it was a very good pitch.
  13. I’d think Kiriloff is destined for left field, hopefully 2020 sept call up and a fixture 2121 onward.
  14. yeah, looking back... I was way wrong...
  15. Who thinks that Falvey’s quote http://twinsdaily.com/topic/35221-falvey-were-going-to-target-impact-pitching/ is directly related?
  16. it takes a lot of people to run a factory supply chain. Engineer/Lab, Quality, supply chain, sourcing, logistics. Those factories probably make more than just MLB and MiLB balls too. Retail, college, high school, softballs. Materials from all over the world.... Even a slight change in the ball would require dozens of people to be involved. Most of them unaware of the aerodynamic properties of a baseball in flight. However with leather being sourced from most likely China but manufacturing in Costa Rica, you could maybe do a production experiment to get balls for the post season if you started in April. 6 months is very fast for a change like that in an experimental fashion, but not impossible. It would be very expensive. This is all to say, Falvine knew of the new baseball for 2019 this time last year. At that point manufacturing for many or all of 2019 was already done. This new change was probably already in the works even then.
  17. I think starting Odorizzi in the band box is a waste. Further, you need to win both home games, because it’s always long odds winning in NY. They needed to win game 1, and Rocco managed to save the bullpen for game 2. I think that was a mistake. They were tied and left their best relievers on the bench
  18. heck yeah! I loved the first 3 seasons, really excited for the 4th
  19. I share your optimism, but maybe not game 1. He’ll absolutely get carried on the DS roster and my guess game 3.
  20. it was a pop up on the pitchers mound, the exact same situation could have happened if Arraez were playing 2nd and Astudillo played C
  21. he’s been a starter, and will be one again. He’s not stretched out right now. There’s not enough time to get him stretched out to 80-100 pitches, so if he’s a “starter” he’s an “opener”. Now I would absolutely be in favor of him getting the first 6 outs or so and having Smeltzer or Thorpe take over.
