Wish I had seen this yesterday lol. I was putting together a consensus, now I could have saved time ?........ My 5 favorite choices in order, based on who I think could be available. 1. Termarr Johnson-unlikely to be available 2. Cam Collier-fingers crossed he is there and Twins pick him. 3. Kevin Parada-Twins need an offensive catcher. But hear his arm isn't strong. May have to move from C? 4. Zach Neto-Should be available 5. Kumar Rocker-I'd take him. I'm hoping they dont take Berry.

I concur. Wait till end of season. But if extended, I would only tack on 2 extra years not 3, unless you make the last year a team option.

I know most people dont like the hill, but it adds charm..........kind of like the Green Monster or the Ivy in Chicago........is there any other unique things in any other ballparks? -
Well ,my guess then is they (like us) overvalue their own prospects........Cause in reality, you would think there would be more men who are dropped from 40 man picked up, because not all teams are equal, some teams 35 man isnt as good as another teams 41st or 42........I know this is a simplistic view, but my view nonetheless.

I dont see why the Twins wouldnt do a trade of a prospect that is on their 40 man to another team for the same level type prospect that is maybe in Low or Hi A, if another team isnt tight on their 40 man, and maybe all teams feel like they are........Thoughts??!!

Article: Trevor May Headed To The Bullpen
blairpaul715 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I partly agree, lets take Hughes for example, in 2014 he pitched like a 2, but in reality he is a 3-4, and Ventura was a 3 in 2015, will he take a leap forward this yr? We will find out.........Now the reverse Cueto is a 1-2, but KC he pitched like a 4.............so last yrs stats wise of the 6 guys you mention it was a wash, its not like one set played better than the other, that is all I was saying or trying to convey, because over the long haul I would take Cueto over them all, not sure about Ventura, might depend on his makeup. -

The question was about pitching , with that said, Volquez has been a 3-5 his whole career and one team in 2013 thought so little of him he was DFA'd...........Ventura does have 2 upside,but he pitched like a 3 last yr, and Cueto pitch 81 innings with a 4-7, 4.76, 56 K's and a .307 BA against, not exactly ace time with KC. Santana 7-5, 4.00, 108 IP , 36 W, 82 K, .253 BAA, 1.30 WHIP vs Cueto 4-7, 4.76, 81 IP, 17 W, 56 K, .307 BAA, 1.45 WHIP Gibson 11-11, 3.84, 195 IP, 65 W, 145 K, .252 BAA, 1.29 WHIP vs Volquez 13-9, 3.55, 200 IP, 72 W, 155 K, .251 BAA, 1.31 WHIP Hughes 11-9, 4.40, 155 IP, 16 W, 94 K, .293 BAA, 1.29 WHIP vs Ventura 13-8, 4.08, 163 IP, 58 W, 156 K, .248 BAA, 1.30 WHIP Pretty much a wash 3 on 3...............and yes KC does have a better pen,and defense, and offense,but that wasnt what I was stating, I was stating they didnt have an ace and still won a World Series. -

Ask Kansas City how fun it is to win a World Series with only having #3 to #5 pitchers.......there rotation is no better than ours. Of course, ideally like everyone else, I would like a #1 type pitcher followed by the next best 4 we have, but depending on who you ask, as Twins fans even, you will get a different answer , as most of our pitchers may have different styles, but still are no better than 3's. -

IMO that is rose colored glasses..........Teams dont trade #3 pitchers for 5th OF or AAAA guys like the A's did with the Twins..........Milone is a 4 at best, and I like him, I also like May, but think he is a 4 also, IMO Nolasco is a 4 or possibly 3 as he pitched in the past, Hughes is a 3-4 guy, and Santana and Gibson are solid 3's.......that is a pretty good rotation IMO...........IMO Berrios is a 3 with an upside of MAYBE a 2. -

I guess it all depends on what kind of pitcher you think May is, is he a 3-4 type or a 4-5 type...........if you think 3-4 , then i can see the consternation, but if you think he is a 4-5 then I can see why a person doesnt mind the bullpen when he can crank it up a notch. As far as not picking up anyone for the bullpen, I am fine with that, time for the much heralded Twins minor league bullpen guys to put up, and they will be given a chance, IMO. -
So, are you saying if Berrios is a #1 you would throw 7 yrs $210-245M? That is the going rate now, what will it be in 7 yrs? And then if you would be willing to do that, you are paying someone thru age 35...............And I did in my original post on Gibson, that AFTER this yr , if he shows to be still improving, remember he did lose time with his TJ. I would not extend Gibson today............I guess after typing this, you probably mean to try to extend Berrios when his Arb yrs are about here and save money...........there is risk in everything, sometimes you have to take chances..............I will also say, I am a big fan of Berrios' demeanor and work ethic, but I dont believe him to be anything more than a good #3. I wish to be wrong tho
-
As far as Gibson, I like him and I personally would extend him AFTER this season, if he still looks good......I understand the sentiment of , we have pitchers waiting in the wings, but if Gibson proves to be a solid #3 I could see and would be willing to offer a 4 yr $30M with a team option for a 5th yr at $15M..........and pitchers waiting in the wings seldom turn out as good as we hope.
-
First , I am not inclined to extend Plouffe, but if he is the option over Sano, then possibly you keep him for 2 yrs, I could see a 2 yr $22M extension, cover his 1st yr of FA, and then after that let him walk. Or if not sure add a team option for $13M for 2019...........as this would preclude having extend a QO if we dont have a good option to take over 3rd base then........I would guess the QO will be in the $18M range by then.
-
In another thread, I posted that either/or both Buxton and Sano should be given 8 yr 90-$100 contracts after this season IF IF they look like potential stars in the making.......I believe my proposal was this: 2017-2018 ,$1M; 2019, $6M; 2020, $9M; 2021, $12M; 2022, $20M; 2023-2024 team options $25M.

Apparently it wasnt a deal breaker since he got a deal without including FA yrs.

2 things, first it is alot of money to dole out, but remember, if I hear right MLB is going to be flush with new money coming it.....................second, yes they may not become the next big thing but they both will be good , but if you think of it as total each yr it comes to approx $12M avg a season, something we could live with............and for FA yrs it is still a 30% discount to Trout , so it really isnt in his neighborhood, just down the street on the next block .........................................................................................if both of us are around in 5 yrs, it would be fun to look back and see what happens................The Twins need to be proactive at some point, and as much as I would like to get them for less, I am not sure that is going to happen. And remember I did say AFTER this year if they look like potential stars, we will know more by yrs end.

Article: TD Top Prospects: #2 Jose Berrios
blairpaul715 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I cant wait to see Berrios, but the prudent thing to do is wait at least 13 days , IF the other starting candidates look good in the spring. Then wait for an injury or poor performance in April , have him up by May 1st. -
I was thinking after this yr I would extend Buxton and Sano, if both look like potential stars, when both Buxton and Sano have 1 plus yr service time, I would take my chances on offering 8yr,$90-100M contracts. I wouldnt count on them accepting. If they did accept , here is how i would pay them: 2 non Arb yrs $1M, 3 arb yrs $6, 9, 12M , 3FA yrs $20, 25, 25M..........and would be nice with club option yrs beyond................is this crazy thinking???? I dont think so with what Trout is getting paid........10.25M for service yr 4, 15.25M for yr 5, then 19.25, 33.25, 33.25, and 33.25 for yrs 6 thru 9.

I am with you , but I do want to see how this season plays out, we should have a better idea on Dozier...........I think unless Dozier ups his BA a bit, even at the expense of HR's, I would look to trade and replace with Polanco next yr.......Provided Polanco keeps showing improvement.

IMO the most likely Rule 5 pickups off the Twins is Wimmers and Michael(former 1st Rd picks), and I dont have a quibble with who they protected for the most part, but I would personally kept Wimmers and dropped O'Rourke.

Major league ready?? I would disagree on any of them being ML ready(Jones would be closest IMO).....Peavy wasnt even protected last yr for the AA version of Rule 5...............I do agree that it is possible that Jorge could get the Santana treatment if some team trully believe he has big upside.
