  1. Not a fan of the Twin's pick. I think Rutherford will be a better hitter. Sounds like they were locked in on Kiriloff since he's already been well coached. Very Twinsian pick. Hopefully it works out.
  2. Good pick by the Red Sox. The rich get richer.
  3. All of those guys were top five picks. We're picking 15th, so it's not really comparable. Players bust all the time in MLB. Some players lose their careers because they eat too much. Should you pass on elite talents that like food?
  4. Off the field issues don't worry me too much in a teenager. At least not enough to pass on that kind of value. Plenty of time to grow up. Unless he's committing felonies of course. I do agree that it would likely bother the Twin's as they are pretty conservative. Gutsy Mock draft on your part. Picking all those guys to fall out of the first 20 picks. Remind me to come back and give you some credit after the draft if you're close.
  5. Nice article. Exciting to hear how Romero is doing. Hate to nit pick, but it did seem odd that you said Kepler has 5 plus tools and noted that he doesn't have a strong arm in the same article. Unless you are including plate discipline as a tool? Regardless I think he will be a good player for the Twins.
  6. The Twins are in no position to be picky. They've already spent a lot of their payroll on bad pitchers. If the Royals would take Plouffe for Ventura you do it. Hopefully they can fix his issues. If not it doesn't cost them too much.
  7. I don't think this draft is considered weak in the middle. Your plan is still the right one though. Having the sixteenth pick with another high pick is a very good position to be in. If there's no one you think that is worth top four or five money you can likely pick up two top ten players by getting a discount on the first pick. If the kid signs you still got the player you wanted instead of the the player had to take. Win,win situation.
  8. There's opportunity here. I'd be all in on an high caliber catcher like J.J. Schwarz. Unfortunately we have the worst GM in baseball. He'll hang on to his crafty veterans and they'll be able pull out just enough wins to avoid getting an impact player. We'll get another guy like Stewart or Gordon. Not bad, but not a franchise changer either. There was a time where I didn't dislike Ryan. Unfortunately that was a lot of bad decisions ago.
  9. Found a mock you are going to like http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/6/6/11837308/2016-minor-league-ball-mock-draft What do you like so much about Garrett? 2 seams a little high. If your board holds up the Twins may want to tank (trade what they can and play the young guys) for J.J. Schwarz . We're going to need a catcher some time.
  10. If so that's the case they should definitely trade him. Hu already hit AAA last I checked. We may regret that trade even though it was necessary at the time. Might as well try to break even.
  11. If the Twin's were to pass on Collins I'd be pissed. I'm not as worried about him sticking at catcher though. They probably will not get the chance to draft him anyways. Outside of that I'd take the pitcher with the highest ceiling. At fifteen they're not going to be a perfect prospect, but that's fine with me. Even if it's another reliever.
  12. Who did you ask? Personally I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to sign someone. If you fail you have the 16th pick next year with likely a top 3 pick. Not a bad position to be in. I appreciate your draft coverage by the way.
  13. Well worth the risk if you ask me. Is it harder to develop hitting skills or receiving skills? Worst case scenario he takes over for Mauer when his contract is up. Or maybe DH/back up catcher.
  14. I read yesterday that he was getting a cortisone shot in his shoulder for inflammation. Should be pitching soon.
  15. St. Peter didn't get a very good TV deal. It's the most important part of his job. Considering he failed at that he would have to be excellent at everything else to be considered a good president. I'd give the Red Sox more credit for the improvements at Hammond than the Twins, so I'm not willing to count that. He did help fleece Minnesota tax payers which would be seen as a positive to ownership though. From a fans perspective there's little to like about the front office these days.
  16. The right move here was to leave Buxton in AAA and work out his issues while gaining a year of team control. This is another stupid decision. Sure it's possible it doesn't completely blow up in their faces, but why take the risk?
  17. This group doesn't look to promising. Anything can happen, but there's no one to be too excited about. Hopefully the Twins get luck and Zack Collins falls to them in the draft.
  18. Tough one. He is entertaining, but is also a bit crazy. I guess someone could convince me either way.
  19. If you would of said 40-man roster I'd of agreed with you.
  20. Nope. He can't select being a free agent and receive his pay from the Twins. It's one or the other. He can just go home and not play instead of AAA ball though.
  21. Of course I would take Theo. He would never take the job though. The Twins don't have the same resources as the Cubs or Red Sox, so it's not going to be as easy for a GM. Spielman is the same kind of GM though. He doesn't sign players to bad contracts very often and gets a lot of team friendly contracts. Hires talented coaches to develop players. Unlike the Twins who just seem to look for people with Minnesota connections and don't seem to worry about results. Both GM's had a plan to acquire as many prospects/young players as possible and try to build a playoff team. It's really not rocket science. The Twin's moves as a whole these last 5 years just don't make any sense. The starting rotation in particular. They also should of been one of the teams going over budget on international signings as well. Instead they focused on winning a couple extra games per year.
  22. I never understood any of these signings in the first place. What is the point of signing mediocre pitchers to long term contracts on a losing team? To get a worse draft pick? They should of focused on the rebuild years ago and now we are facing the consequences. Time to clean house in the organization. Hopefully the can find the MLB version of Rick Spielman.
  23. Nolasco never should of been in the rotation. He's not a good pitcher and there was no reason to think he would turn it around this year. Luckily (I guess) this team isn't competitive, so it doesn't really matter.
