  1. Here's Molitor's quote about it: "We're trailing by four with two outs in the seventh and we have our best hitter up there. The risk a hundredfold is greater than the reward." I didn't see the game, but it seems like he was watching something completely different from what you saw. Who should I believe?
  2. This is really not the roster you want to have in what should be year 5 of the rebuild. Molitor doesn't seem to realize what kind of team he is managing. Normally I'd never expect the Twins to fire a manager mid-season, but they may not have a choice. Unless the front office is on board with his decisions. That would be even more concerning.
  3. When you use quotation marks you need to be accurate. The entire argument you just made isn't even based on what I wrote. Which is basically, signing players after a career year is bad practice. I tried to use examples that showed the Twins doing that where it was not necessary. They could of waited on any of those contracts. Of course people could disagree with my premise. Perhaps Mauer and Dozier would of ended up with similar money anyways. It really doesn't matter though.
  4. I agree that they should shut him down. Might as well have him healthy next year. This is really the product of a much bigger problem though. The Twins seem to like to sign contracts with players after career years. Mauer, Suzuki, Hughes, and Dozier come to mind. That's just bad business. Hell, I avoid taking players in fantasy baseball after they have a career year. The Twins are not a team that can afford to overpay for players.
  5. Bautista wasn't going to do anything but get his ass kicked. Flailing your hands around isn't to effective in a fight.
  6. I believe people have attributed Meyer's bad season last year to losing his grandfather and dog. It certainly is terrible when you lose people in your life, but it doesn't really show a lot of mental toughness to just shut down like that. I'm guessing he did not handle how Molitor treated him very well. Really I wouldn't even know who to blame if that's the case.
  7. Thank you. It all seems worth it now. We probably should of made sure Ryan's phone works while we were at it. Maybe he spent the offseason trying to get through to the operator.
  8. I like the line up with Buxton at the bottom since you can get his speed on base for the top of the lineup. Still though, it has to be humbling to go from being the top prospect in baseball to batting after the pitcher.
  9. Glad to have him back. He knows baseball and has a ton of credibility. I'm sure young players will love working with him.
  10. I was resigned to Joe being the hitter we've seen the last couple of years. It is great to see him hitting like this again. Maybe the weight training in the offseason and another year away from the concussions did the trick? The best part is seeing that Joe is coming up to bat and being happy about it. Just like old times. Not to mention it's a huge boon to the team. I just hope we're not jinxing it
  11. I'd agree with your assessment of Stewart's last year and that the Twins have been aggressive with promotions lately. Starting him in A+ ball is not unreasonable, it's just not where I think he should of started. What I was saying is that dominating A+ ball in your second year through it isn't as impressive as doing it the first year. It's still a good thing of course. It just doesn't scream ace to me. The title of this report is "Kohl Stewart looks like an ace".
  12. Glad to see Stewart doing well. The only problem is that he's repeating the level. Takes a bit of the shine off the performance. I really don't see why they didn't start him in AA this year. Doesn't really matter much when looking at the bigger picture I guess.
  13. Yay! Hardest win out of the way. Same goes for Vanimal
  14. Ugh. I new it was a matter of time before someone mentioned the Orioles comparison. This season has been depressing.
  15. Not to mention Molitor didn't think Santana could pinch hit for Suzuki or Buxton against left handed relievers in the previous games. Then he bat's him second? Which one is it Molitor? I understand we have a young bench, but you still have to play the percentages most of the time.
  16. I like these reports quite a bit. It's nice to see how are prospects are doing and I appreciate the work. If you want to improve them you could give the players random nicknames for fun. Kohl "Texas Toast" Stewart?
  17. I see. I'd agree that there was no malicious intent on that play. Hard to have much intent at all when things happen that quickly.
  18. I watched it again. Kang was a step maybe a step and a half of the bag. The runner clearly altered his path to go after him. It would be an illegal slide under the new rule. I would agree that the play would not have happened in Asia and the Tejada play was worse.
  19. I'm using the most extreme example that would be allowed under Dave's rules.
  20. From Dave: "The only time IMO you should get "punished" is when you don't even touch the base when breaking up a slide." It's the comment I was replying too.
  21. I didn't see the Bautista play, but you're saying if a player has no chance to break up a play, slide's into a player with the intent to injure and is able to touch the bag it's ok? I disagree.
  22. That's a dirty play. You'll notice the runner was still out at first too. It's the reason they had to make this rule.
  23. Interesting opening day. Yay, the rains over, let's watch some baseball. Watch Tillman look unhittable and Santana look very hittable for two innings. Yay rain delay.
