  1. I don't remember who said it, but someone on this board once called him "The toolsiest tool to ever tool" So the answer is his tools. Personally I doubt he ever makes any contribution to the MLB team.
  2. My 4 outfielders would be Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, and Walker. Arcia at DH. Since this is the perfect world we would get amazing trade offers for Plouffe and Mauer during spring training as well. This allows me to put Sano at 3rd and Vargas at 1st. I have no problem wit Park starting out in AAA if he gets outperformed in spring training. Jung Ho Kang started out last year in the minors.
  3. Are you sure? I did look it up If a player with Article XIX-A rights is outrighted and elects to be a free-agent immediately, his contract is terminated and he receives no termination pay. But if the player accepts the Outright Assignment and defers his right to be a free-agent until the conclusion of the MLB regular season, the player continues to get paid, receiving the balance of his salary through to the end of the season. And then if the outrighted player is not subsequently added back to an MLB 40-man roster prior to the conclusion of the MLB regular season, the player can elect free-agency anytime beginning on the day after the conclusion of the MLB regular season through October 15th.
  4. If he still wanted to play he'd have to elect free agency then. I'm sure the Twins would be happy with that. I don't think Nolasco would do that of course. Most likely he would just take the paid vacation for the rest of the year.
  5. I like how he mentioned magic twice right at the beginning. What a dork Cuddyer always was a class act and it was fun to cheer for him over the years.
  6. This person does not get jokes. Not to mention the fact that his premise is completely wrong. Baseball teams charge as much as people will pay. Then players ask for more money to get their get a share of the revenue. You'll notice this because its mentioned all the time during negotiations. The reason cable companies spend a ton of money for sports programming is to stop people from getting Direct tv or Dish network. The reverse also happens (NFL Ticket). It's kind of a racket and is a big reason why a lot of people are getting rid of cable and dish. Player contracts have nothing to do with it.
  7. I kind of follow the Braves. Running into their fans and talking about how we screwed them out of the World Series is very fun. That and they were on basic cable when I was growing up. The cubs were on too, but I never liked them as much. Kind of seemed like a minor league team and their announcer was drunk of his ass. Not that it wasn't funny. You just don't get guys like Harry Caray anymore.
  8. I'm not mad about it. Other teams were just not interested in what the Twins were selling. I'm always skeptical about free agent relievers anyways and I think they were overpaid this year. Some of my friends are Tigers fans and for a couple years all they needed was a good bullpen to win a World Series. They signed free agents every year just to see them fail.
  9. The reason it was a good trade is that these guys are the best available. Most have big defensive problems at a defense first position. Catcher is a very thin position and this group proves that.
  10. He probably wanted some time off. Which is fine by me. Wanted to let them down easy and say the Twins didn't want him to play. Ryan would make a terrible wingman. You should just go along with the lie at that point.
  11. That sequel to moneyball is not looking to good. Probably ends a substance abuse problem.
  12. Alright maybe not any team. How's Chris Colabello doing now days? How did dropping David Ortiz because of his bad defense work out? No I'm not saying Vargas has the same level of success Ortiz did, but I do remember a lot of people telling me how he would never be successful in MLB. Some hitters take longer to develop and there's no reason to give up on someone with that kind of talent.
  13. Vargas had a .910 OPS in the minors last year and had some success in MLB in 2014. He still has plenty of time to put it together. Any team would claim him given the opportunity.
  14. I was following that trade too. It's important to note that the A's were likely getting rid of Lawrie due to his negative presence in the clubhouse. Either way though, the White Sox got him for basically nothing. Pretty disappointing. I'd rather just keep Plouffe than make a trade like that.
  15. Really? This was only a couple years ago. I seem to remember a lot of people in baseball discussing how overrated the closer position was. Often referenced in these forums when discussing the Matt Caps trade. Seems to me the Royals success brought the value back up. I don't know any baseball executives though, so I certainly could be wrong.
  16. I always wanted the Twins to go into full rebuild mode back then, but I understand why they didn't. Hard to cut payroll and go with young players right after getting the new ballpark they always said they needed. Relievers really didn't have the same value back then either.
  17. I could see Michael turning into something similar to Eduardo Escobar. I'd hate to lose him. Who knows where he'd be without the injuries.
  18. It's not my money. Sign him up! Should be able to find some teams that need a #4 pitcher.
  19. It's so hard to say because we really don't know whats going on in the meetings.I'd like to see Plouffe and Nolasco moved, but I doubt it's easy to do. Brett Lawrie to the White Sox fell through because the A's weren't happy with the offer. The Reds say they've been underwhelmed by the offers for Frazier. There might not be much of a market. You're not moving Nolasco without picking up a bad contract, so that really limits your options. I did like the Hicks trade even though it was initiated by the Yankees and the Park deal looks good. Ryan could definitely be more aggressive though. I think we ended up with mediocre pitching because Ryan settled for players other teams weren't really pursuing. Overall I'd say the Twins front office is average.
  20. Except the games we will lose when he pitches.
  21. I know the Diamondbacks have a big tv deal, but this is crazy. I had Miller on my fantasy baseball team so I followed him pretty closely. He's not worth anywhere near that. There's not many players that are. Fans probably don't like it, but the Braves are making good moves. When the Cubs and Mets best players are hitting free agency the Braves players will be in their prime.
  22. and a great way to ruin 2 guys for fantasy baseball.
  23. Eh.... Nobody thinks they're going to get caught. Teenagers definetely don't think that way. There really aren't any mistakes a person can make that I will not forgive. The main thing is that they have a good work ethic.
  24. If the Twins are competing for a wild card spot it would be a good season to me. The team is improving, but they're just not that good yet. Pitching is the biggest problem that I see. The offense is going to have to come from the young guys and if they don't improve we're screwed. That's why I think we should of traded Plouffe for pitching. Having him at 3rd is not going to make or break this team. At best it's a luxury.
  25. I wouldn't waste his service time by having him sit on the bench. He hasn't hit AAA yet, so I doubt he could hit major league pitching yet anyways.
