    Correct - Rendon has been so forgettable that I cannot even keep his name straight. In four years his peak is 58 games. His HR high is 9. His RBI high is 34. He was supposed to be Trout;s partner in the lineup, but became one more bad contract in the Angel's corral.

    I keep reading we have the best BP - we lose Duran, Thielbar, Topa and still I see this written. It makes no sense to me. Yes we have acquired a lot of arms - were other teams trying to bid for them? Jax looked great the last two years although he had a period where he seemed lost. Can he be the closer, can Brock Stewart sustain his newly found prominence or will he break down? Then who? Is Alcala finally going to find his success? Is Funderburk going to make us forget Thielbar? Who will be this years surprise - we really don't know. Once we thought Pagan and Lopez would be our BP studs. My mantra is still, let's wait and see what happens, although that does not make for the most entices columns.

    Boring - Cleveland is the land of disappointment. No they will not spend money, no they will not hit, no they will not keep their stud pitchers. Thank you Cleveland, at least you have the rock and roll hall of fame.

    This is the Angels - They could not win with Trout, Ohtani and Rodon. So who cares who makes their roster?

    I really enjoyed this. I love seeing the progress and demotions that affect our prospects and I enjoy seeing players who are not on the list leap frog over the top prospects. Thanks for the notes and speculation.

    Let's hope that for once we can rely on ST stats and that he will give us the security we need at the end of games. If he does his story will continue to grow as we look at this Air Force arm!

    I was really looking for something more inspiring than this. The basic question is are these three being overlooked and judging by all the article the answer is no. So, who is being overlooked? Everyone with any potential has a TD essay or more, but I will take Castro. He has so much to contribute. Then there is Kiriloff who has had so many injuries that most of us no longer look at him as the stud that he was expected to be. And then to find a third overlook I have to go to the BP. Is it Jackson? His ST stats look really good. So does Okert. Then there are names like Boyle and I never heard of him.

    Unlike many, I have been an Astros fan - hard to unseat them, but the Mariners are trying and I like their loo. The Angels are a perennial middle of the pack team because their own never lets a real strategy get developed. The Rangers should be great again, but they also seemed to lose sight of their goals. And the A's are at best embarrassments to MLB.

    I love it. Working on the small cruise boat we go to Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City, Baie Comeau, and out to the Maritimes. I love Canada and have so many good memories. When my wife and I walked around Lake Superior in 2010, 2 month of our walk was in Ontario and we felt so at home with the people and the land. My only complaint is that the mounties don't wear that wonderful costume that I saw when I went to Canada in the 50s. Thanks for the note.

    I am in Toronto regularly with the cruise line and the guides we hire in the city regularly call it the New York of Canada - sorry if it is something you don't like. I am just repeating what I was told by the tourism guides. And I still like the comparison and the city.

    Thought provoking essay. Thanks. I have been a Blue Jay fan - not like the Twins - and have been frustrated by their issues over the past few years. They certainly have performed well, but they have lacked the shut down pitchers they need. I would love to have Berrios back, but he has never been Ace quality. I give them credit for trying - signing Gausman and Chapman, promoting good young talent and trying to sign big name free agents. I love Toronto and will be there this summer too. Toronto is the "New York" of Canada, an ethnically rich city with a lot of options. But it is still a foreign city and I think that impacts their ability to sign players. And maybe there is a parallel there too as Minnesota tries to compete agains Chicago, LA, NY, Atlanta. There is a challenge for every franchise and how the team works with that challenge is something that is worth observing too.

    I'm not sure where your optimism for Sands comes from. I would see Simeon woods Richardson getting a shot at this roll

    I am the opposite. Sands has shown me nothing this spring for the last two years. So I am quite satisfied with the bullpen as they writer points it out

    I'm delighted that Lee did so well. I didn't expect him to be on the team going north, but an injury as a bad report. We've had way too many injuries to our prospects over the years. So I just hope he gets well soon. Does grayden AAA and forces his way back to Minnesota?

    Baseball digest still exists, but not in the form we grew up with. I used to read it intently and memorize the statistics. I loved it. Baseball has changed so much that those same statistics do not have the meaning we grew up (I am 78). After Bonds, McGwire, Sosa juiced their way to HR heaven I stopped caring about 500,600,700 HRs. My list stopped with Aaron, Ruth, May. I loved seeing players like Warren Spahn come back from heroic service in the war and still win over 300 games. Now there is no one even close to 300 innings. Henderson, Coleman, Wills, and Brock made basestealing a much anticipated part of the game and then we changed it. Relief pitchers like Hoyt Wilhelm would come in whenever needed - there were no saves. Thanks for mentioning the old magazine and bringing back memories - I do have to add, I still love baseball and follow the team and this site almost religiously. I will live with the strikeout era, the reliance on too many BP pitchers and innings, and celebrate the fact that we are back to a quicker game.

    Unless it is Montgomery I want to go with what we have. Send down Sands, he is not MLB caliber. Let's start pushing what we have.

    You forgot to add Pineda. I understand that we think we can sweep in and get a future star if we can wait a year for recovery. Pineda was 22 - 13 with a 3.80 era and started 53 games in three years. He signed as a free agent and was let go as a free agent. At least he did not cost prospects. I do understand the reluctance to give huge contracts to pitchers in their 30s and developing our own arms is a better strategy, but how do you make this happen? Mahle cost us a lot of good prospects, Gray cost us Chase Petty who is 1 - 8 with a 2.74 era in 45 minor league games. No big loss so far. DeSclafani is the one that bothers me the most. We gave up the Seattle Mariners number 3 hitter and our hope is that the minor leaguer will be a stud, but what we needed was an arm that could contribute.

    I would love to see him continue to build on last year. I love his dynamic presence and I think he changes the team attitude.

    We need a young arm to move quickly and surprise us. After Varland the cupboard does not look promising for this year.

    I do not have faith in any of these players on the mlb roster. I wish I did, but with prospects there is a window that opens and closes. These three are fringe players at best.

    I like players who fill roles and DH is one of those. I am not a fan of a rotating set of bats for the DH spot.

    I have said all spring that it is nice to have a good BP projection, but it comes down to the season and the in game performance. The jury is still out. Let's hope it gets pieced together.

    I am not sure I can see the Twins making this move. Their payroll stance has been adamant. Get Louie ready.
