    I think it stinks. If we are going to ignore our minor league prospects get stars to hold them back, not someone who marginally out does them in ST.

    Nice records. I guess I will watch Miggy in Detroit go for the big records. In the mean time what I want is 100 wins for the team.

    Cave is not on my personal list, If Buxton goes down we need to reach into the minors where we have our next CF - Celestino. SS is not well backed up and neither is 3B. I see Garlick fading after one month in time for the Kiriloff call up. Garver has not hit well this spring, he did not hit well last season. We have to stop talking about his good bat until he shows that he found it again. Kepler is ready to go now that he had his 1 for 33 stretch in ST - right? I hope he blasts his way to erasing that debacle. Buxton (172), Cave (219), Garver (172) and Sano (159) have to leave their ST numbers behind. I left Simmons off the list because of his late start. I forget - ST Stats don't matter unless you are Kiriloff.

    Too many names - next take those names and tell us what you think of 2021 likeliness. They cannot use all these. Some are going to fall off quickly. If you took all your 40 man, non roster and other categories and ranked them from top to bottom that would tell me more. If Sabato has a real chance for this year I did not see it in the ST games I watched. But I do wonder if those who came in during the current FO regime get a higher chance to make it.

    In 1976 he had Carew, Wynegar, Smalley, Hisle, Bostock, Cubbage, Ford and Randall - not a bad lineup. Goltz and Blyleven led an otherwise blah pitching staff and Campbell was an outstanding RP. Same lineup and SP Goltz and Zahn led the staff in 1977. Then Erickson, Goltz and Zahn with Mike Marshall in the pen. There were some horses here.

    Does a platoon of Garlick and Cave in LF sound like a part of a championship team? If not Kiriloff, if not Rooker, then Larnach. Upside and youth. Now if Kepler does not produce, if Buxton gets injured the OF suddenly looks subpar. The BP has some very shaky vets. Lets hope that everyone finds their stroke, rises to the challenges and all ST worries disappear.

    Garlick and Cave - suddenly the starting lineup does not look as productive as we imagined. Sorry Rooker can't field. I do understand that. Since Kiriloff did not make it although at the time of the cut he was hitting better than Cave, I would have liked to seen Larnach get the chance. I like upside, I like infusion of youth.

    As one of the posters who consistently puts Cave down, I appreciate your essay, but it does not go far enough. What is Cave's future versus Rooker or others? I am not a fan of Cave and do not like the idea that he blocks possible young talent that can do so much more.

    Disappointed that both Rooker and Kiriloff are sent down and Garlick who is also seeing his numbers diminish is kept. What does that say to prospects? I think there needs to be some concern over how young players are judged and handled. I am also interested in how the ST stats don't count comments can be used both to justify release and justify retention. Do they count or don't they? Inconsistency is really a bad thing.

    Actually Cleveland manages its money, but does not dump and rebuilds. They have a system unlike anyone else and they stay competitive.

    I agree to your picks, but would love to see SD beat out LA. The Mets seem to be one of those teams that always self destructs so I do not trust them. The Cardinals improved, but if they were put into another division they could not win.

    Given that this is a Cleveland model - if he does well he will be traded in two or three years - think Clevinger, Bauer, Carrasco, Plutko...

    Very nice article and depth is always a question and hard to analyze. I am partial to Celestino if Buxton is down for a prolonged period. I have to say that covering all the spots with sufficient backup is a real difficulty. You laid out a good plan and of course Sano and Cruz are backed up by Larnach, Rooker, Kiriloff. 3B is the weakest of the positions for a long term solution. Luckily the starting pitching depth seems to be in place with Thorpe and Dobnak, I just wish I had more faith in Happ and Shoemaker. The BP is the weakest and the backups that I watched in today's ST RP game do not give me as much comfort as the other position backups.

    I am disappointed that Kiriloff was not given another week. Baseball is notorious for slumps and he might have busted out just like we are hoping Buxton, Kepler, Sano, Garver, Cave all see their bats wake up. I worry that Garlick is getting so much attention. His BA is falling, his Ks are rising. Yes he leads in HRs this spring (ST stats don't count?) but there are a lot of weaknesses as we say in the game yesterday. Five AB - one HR - 3 Ks

    I disagreed with the home-centric grading of the position players, but the loss of Jiminez makes them even. I give the Twins the fielding prize so I slightly grade the Twins over the Sox. In SP I give Berrios and Maeda the overwhelming lead, but I am not a Pineda fan. I see his seven year performance, less performance enhancing additives as average SP. Happ has looked terrible this spring, Shoemaker is ???? Give me Randy and the SP is better for the Twins than the Sox. The BP has not looked good this spring - neither Robles or Colome have shined and Rogers looks like the same guy that disappointed us last season so we need to win the SP side of this equation. At this point we are even and it means a really tense and good season, especially if Kepler is not leading off and the team remembers how to hit. And finally, am I the only one who questions why Cave is so secure as the fourth OF?

    I would rather use a pitcher who has a future with us than one that is a one year fill in.

    Has anyone noticed how well Larnach is starting to do now? Very impressive. Of course I think Kiriloff should still be getting ABs. They are not just using their starters and it is better to give him experience. A silly question - someone said he was sent down to avoid injury (which I do not buy), but could it be that they feared he might be like Larnach and catch fire at the end of ST which would have meant sending him down would have got a lot more attention? Many of Ted's choices are solid, even if his ability to count to 26 isn't. Maybe we do not count the DH - it is just an add on. I do hate that in NL cities we once again have no DH and he has to sit. How about if they both play by their own league rules. We have Cruz bat, they have a pitcher. That should speed up the universal DH decision. One last thought - I cringe every time I see Kepler leading off.

    Dobnak has to be winning everyone over. He just takes the ball and does what he needs to. It's just a wonderful story and excellent talent. I really want him in the starting rotation.

    Here is the correction: "As far as Max goes, please correct me if wrong, but hasn't he had a couple bad springs before cranking it up when the season started?" He has not had a couple good seasons. He had one very good season and a bunch of okay to mediocre. We need to see more from him.

    I like Smeltzer's story, but I keep seeing others pass him - Thorpe now, the prospects next.

    I predict Smeltzer is the first to go if they need room.

    The fact that they are a bad team makes our pitching and hitting more suspect.
