  1. I have not been impressed with Sabato so I am happy to see him have a good night with the bat. Nice to see so many on the prospect list playing and hitting yesterday.
  2. Fun game, more fun if we won. But I enjoyed the spirit and effort. Let's bring up our top pitching prospects and see what they can do. And with Donaldson not in the field, let's give Miranda a shot too.
  3. Tis the season of hope. If we are going to sign a cast off, Houston is a good place to start.
  4. The more I think about this season the more I think I would put Pineda and Maeda in the BP and just put one young pitcher after the next on the mound to start the games. We know Maeda and we might not even have Pineda in the future. Let's see what we have.
  5. I would take him back! I am not part of an ACE dialogue. There were a lot of great pitchers who were not ACEs by the limited definition that we now use. Radtke, Viola, Kaat, Perry...Not ACES perhaps, but damn good and dependable.
  6. I really enjoyed this. It is a very constructive way to look at the positions. I hope you are able to get more up to date data because I think we will look even worse with more current information. I went to fangraphs and wRC - 1. Garver is #20 on the overall list - our highest twin 154 score. It really hurts to see LaMonte Wade at #27! Nelson Cruz is the only other Twin (ex) in the top 60. 2. Josh Donaldson #62 127 Then there is Akil Baddoo at number 82 - still higher that Twins OF 3.Polanco is #93 with a 118 There is Robbie Grossman and Jonathon Scoop before we get to 4.Arraez at #136 - 109 5. Sano at #169 is 104 And that completes our over league average group (average 100). Jeffers 97 Kepler 96 Astudillo 96 Kiriloff 94 Larnach 89 Simmons 61 Thanks to Garver these 11 average 104 for the team.
  7. I would have given it to Berrios or Ober. I am not as impressed with Maeda as many seem to be. He was great last year, this year he was not only bad at the beginning, but I would argue he is just average right now. This pitching staff just has a long way to go at this point. I would really like to see a Balazovic given a chance and a few more of our high end prospect pitchers.
  8. "Meanwhile, Kenta Maeda continued a strong second half of the season with two scoreless frames, before running into trouble in the third. Maeda gave up back-to-back home runs" Five runs in five innings and we call his pitching good? That is a pretty low bar for our new number one pitcher to clear. Polanco is looking great - he has become our number one hitter with speed, power, and clutch performance. How nice to have him going like this.
  9. Cole Sands line is a poor pitcher of the day result. Nunn looks like he was the pitcher of the day based on your article. Thanks for the update. I do agree with the idea of giving Miranda some MLB at bats. Keep the young players moving up and sit the older ones.
  10. Thanks for your notes. I am wait and see. I hope Berrios rises to Cy Young - not to show up the Twins, but because I have always been a fan of his. Getting rid of Happ and Robles is a plus, but I wonder if they will benefit from getting out of the Twins way. I read Shoemaker's remarks and they make some sense. Veterans do not need to start over. Next year looks like a struggle and I have no idea how they will handle it. I may be the only one who would rather go a year with the home grown pitchers and see what we have rather than signing some middling FA arms. We already got rid of the best FA, so let the young guys keep growing.
  11. Leadership is something that happens, it is not assigned or expected. It is maturity, personality, charisma, and talent. If he becomes that, great. But if that is not part of who he is and he continues to play well that is okay too.
  12. I will be happy to see an article that puts the Twins prospects into an updated list. It is hard for me to understand what is used to rank these new players who are a mystery to me.
  13. Good choice - I am fascinated by his future as we look at Simmons who I do not believe will be back.
  14. Any team with our record should be able to find room for someone we want.
  15. I do not like the way we have used Ober. Pitch him as long as he is doing well, extend him, let him be a starter. If he starts to wear down then shut him down, but no more 4 inning starts. Keep bringing up the young guys. I like Ober's story and I hope the other pitchers are so good that he does not make the rotation.
  16. I fear our sabremetric FO and manager and coaches all feel that they know more than anyone else. Old school can be mixed with new and pitchers can be left to do what they feel best with. I have less than good expectations with this leadership group and I hope I am proven wrong.
  17. No that assumes that we could have signed him for the same value the market will set, but even without it, it assumes that Berrios would have given us the rest of this year and all of next year with better results than any other pitcher we have or will get. He did just pitch six shut out innings for Toronto. It also assumes that if we had kept him we would still have gotten an extra draft choice so in reality we gained one prospect and lost 40 starts.
  18. Toronto view of Berrios I always like to look at the other side in trades. What do they think? "Nevertheless, Berrios is now a Blue Jay and after clearing the necessary protocols and arriving in Toronto Saturday evening, manager Charlie Montoyo scheduled him to pitch yesterday in front of a home crowd that was not only happy to have baseball back at the Rogers Centre but was now able to witness the star deadline acquisition pitch against the Kansas City Royals." "Overall, Jose Berrios had a great debut with the Blue Jays and showed fans across the country why it took two top prospects to get him into a blue uniform. Not only does the club have him for the rest of the season, but he will also be with the Jays next year as well, helping the team push for the playoffs over the next two years with a young core that can hit the ball a very long way." In the Toronto paper - https://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/opinion/2021/08/01/blue-jays-takeways-the-holiday-debut-of-a-starter-acquired-at-the-trade-deadline-its-been-the-start-of-something-good-before.html
  19. Thank you - I was blinded with my tears for the bad baseball we are enduring.
  20. The last thing I want to see is Colome pitch. I do not want to see anyone who does not have a future with the Twins on the field or the bench or the mound. The only reason to watch, listen, read is the future. Anything else and the FO is robbing us of a chance to actually stay interested in the team.
  21. Thanks for the report. Interesting. Not inspiring. Nice to see Celestino get hits against AAA pitchers.
  22. I am puzzled about what to say. Welcome to the Twins Mr Gant you fit right in with the BP. Pineda this is why no one made the trade for you. Where are the positives? I don't know. The record says all that is needed - 44 - 62 .415 18 GB Since 1922 the Senator/Twins have three times had worse percentages than this for the season.
  23. Bring up Miranda - he deserves it and the Twins need a jolt - I would also reward Contreras with some MLB time. Cave is not the future, use his spot for some young players. Bring up the Saint's bullpen trio and let's see if they can be the answer to next year. I just look at the posts on TD today and it feels like the trade deadline was the end of the season for the team. Understandable. It would have been nice if Strotman had pitched great and gave us a boost, but this is reality and it did not happen.
  24. I am with you. Ober has not been allowed to go 5 in numerous games. Is he a starter? I really hate Rocco's hook. I do not understand it at all. Tonight he was lucky, the BP did not fail us.
  25. Trading Happ is an A+. Trading Berrios is a statement that the Twins will not commit to pay for a quality starter. No matter how people debate his ACE status (a worthless discussion) he is the best we have now and the best we have had since Santana. It will take a long time for one of the prospects to be as good as he is right now. Accepting that we were not going to sign him we made a good trade, but not as good as it sounds for this reason. As the CBA now stands we would have gotten one draft pick for him so our overall haul was really one prospect. So I give the Berrios trade a C. Trading Robles is a wash. I do not know about the prospect, but I do know Robles had a very uneven year, but much better than the other big signing - Colome. Give this a C. Not trading Pineda is a fail. Not trading Donaldson, Simmons, Colome, Kepler and anyone else is also a Fail. So I understand the ESPN grade.
