  1. Please this is not good news. Homer Bailey part Two.
  2. I really enjoyed this article because it gave me so much information that I really didn't have. Boyd is a surprise to me because he was at one time their Ace. They had great expectations and I know that in the past we even talked about trading for him. Otherwise I don't really know much about the other players but I think I would take a chance on him.
  3. I have been reading all kinds of free agent signings and trades throughout the majors and this is news? This is what the twins have done? Who cares? This is a nothing set of moves. Wake me up when we really do something. And then we outright him. Was this necessary?
  4. The Twins have specialized in great players who just do not make Cooperstown. I am just happy they make it in MN and provide so much enjoyment. He is definitely not going to the big hall, we will celebrate him in the team hall.
  5. Now let's move the next super prospect - Lewis into the team!
  6. Ray, Kershaw and Stroman are the last three of the top tier. The question about Ray is whether this is an aberration or the new norm for him. We have had other one year Cy Young winners who dropped back to normal after getting the award. Ray's eras over his career (4.00 career) are 8.16/3.52/4.90/2.89/3.93/4.34/6.82 - 7.84 - 4.79/2.84 - does someone want to chart that? 2020 there were three teams so that is the reason for three figures.
  7. Wonderful news - did my wishbone make the difference or did I waste my wish when I should have saved it for a starting pitcher?
  8. Semien a Ranger Marte, Escobar, Canha to Mets Marlins sign Avisail Garcia Rays sign Kluber Mariners trade for Frazier Cardinals sign Metz Houston signs Verlander Red Sox sign Wacha Cleveland signed Sandy Leon Angels signed Loup and Thor Giants signed DeScafani LA Dodgers sign Heaney Detroit signed Rodriguez Nationals signed Alcides Escobar Toronto signed Yimi Garcia White Sox signed Kendall Graveman Pirates signed Quintana Royals signed Michael Taylor There are more minor signings, but that is 18 teams that have moved. You can say some signed their own players, but MN has not done that either. Tonight the news about Buxton is great, but it keeps us the same, it does not raise the needle.
  9. Black Friday for the Mets - MLB.com reports that Mark Cahna, Eduardo Escobar, and Starling Marte are signing with the team. None of them were on Twins radar as far as I can see, but signing continue at a rapid pace for many teams - not ours.
  10. Love having you bring history back to enjoy again. For a short period Milton looked like he would be our long term Ace.
  11. No - making the Twins HOF is great, making the overall HOF is not where he belongs no matter how much we enjoyed him. I am just glad he is on the ballot another year so we can think about him. Being on the ballot is often much better than being elected. Election stops the discussion, but think about how much publicity Bonds and Clemens have had. If they had been elected we would stop talking about them. Rose and Shoeless Joe are much better remembered than their contemporaries.
  12. Back then the extension would not have been as long, but it also would not have cost as much.
  13. The enigma is why the Twins waited so long to extend and lock up this talent. Everyone sees it, we know it is special, we have no CF to replace him at this point. Since losing Kirby we have had a long list of good CF all of whom we traded, maybe we should keep one. I am not a money guy and prices make no sense to me, but MLB has created its own economy and the team needs to work within it. We still have a need for a strong C/SS/CF to defend and compete. Without Buxton we have only one of the positions filled at this time. Give us a Thanksgiving present - sign Buxton so we can go on and anguish over SS and SP!
  14. Fun exercise - now the over and under on how many are traded or wash out! I would put Wallner in and Sabato as a question mark. Sabato and Rooker are two of a kind for me and not what I want.
  15. I have a terrible time thinking of RP in the HOF. It is such a hybrid position, but the fact that we are now doing bullpen games and relying more on RP that SP means that they have a new status and that might be the factor that puts him in the hall. It does make me wonder about RP that were in the golden era like Don McMahon who had a wonderful career outlined here The Case for Don MaMahon Here is a bleacher report summary the ten best RP of the 1960s
  16. Just create the Steroid wall to acknowledge what went on and then put all the tainted but really good players in and save us these questionable judgments and discussions. And I say this as someone who truly hated the impact of steroids. I am no longer impressed by the numbers and when I was an Aaron, Mathews, and Spahn fan I was checking their location on the all time list every year. Now we have gone bomba and strikeout crazy and steroids were like a big helium balloon that rose and burst.
  17. Tampa Bay just blew up the Tampa Bay way with their Wander Franco contract. The Twins are still in the dark ages.
  18. I ushered the game and this really brought back the scene - the lights at the old Met shining on Power - what a great and appropriate number 1. I do not count the multi-pitcher no-hitters in the same list. The charm is gone when the same pitcher is not out there battling the odds.
  19. Yes is the only answer to the question. Can we live without Rooker - of course, can we trade Kepler - I hope so, will we retain Buxton? CAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes we can do without him. There is plenty of room in the OF for a good player.
  20. Sad ending to the Tortuga era. Bombas and Tortugas are now just memories.
  21. Happy Thanksgiving. We are in the season where we are glad we once had Cruz, Pressly and Berrios, where LaMonte Wade was one of our bench players, Akil and Wells were in our system. We have had a lot of good players to celebrate and two really good years. Now the weather and the roster look bleak. So do we get Christmas Cheer or wait until the end of the winter and sign a Cron or a disgruntled Lynn? Please FO give us something as we snap the wishbone.
  22. Nice creative essay - the Twins gave up on Niko and Gordy brought him in to a talent starved organization and he delivered. It is a nice catch - he could be a stopgap if we use the money to get pitchers.
  23. The axiom of being strong up the middle - catcher, SS, CF - has been around along time and is true today as it ever was. Those are the three key positions, the most important for success. We look good at catcher if Garver is healthy and Jeffer's bat improves again, but SS is a puzzle we cannot afford to fix in the high end free agent market and hope for our prospects to be ready, and CF is even more important than ever in this fly ball era. Buxton, when healthy, fills it, but if he is gone we are hurt in the lineup and field. I do not know what the contract will be and will not comment on that. But Celestino and Cave are the back up options right now.
  24. So did Astudillo, but that does not mean he should be retained.
