Week in Review: Buxton vs. The World
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is true he should be 3 in my old way of seeing things. Now they are changing and not always right. Tom Kelly used to talk about number nine being the second lead off man.- 19 replies

The Minnesota Twins Might Have a New Closer
mikelink45 replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
All I can say is that when a team has such a bad bullpen TD has to really reach for a good story. Nice try. -
With our current MLB 1B I would say let's see what he can do.

I will always remember Mark Belanger on Earl Weaver's Orioles - he could vacuum up every ball, but could not hit. Weaver did have the Robinsons, Boog Powell and others to hit, but he recognized the extreme importance of a great fielder at SS and paired with Davey Johnson his keystone was solid and Paul Blair could field like Buxton.

Week in Review: Buxton vs. The World
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
So true - but Banks had three other HOF teammates - Billy Williams, Ferguson Jenkins and Ron Santo. In the pre-expansion period competition was really strong and even good teams had difficulty winning.- 19 replies

Week in Review: Buxton vs. The World
mikelink45 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand why Lewis is batting ninth, but with Buxton knocking the ball out of the park it would be nice to have someone on base and Lewis hitting just ahead of him is wasting his opportunities.- 19 replies

It is the new max effort - 100 mph requirement that I see as part of the problem. But we are not the only team with that problem. https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/relatedvideo?q=major+league+pitchers+on+injury+list&mid=E35A160C87302FCADC13E35A160C87302FCADC13&churl=https%3a%2f%2fwww.youtube.com%2fchannel%2fUCdNunVgO9a5AVfu4pdCgNxQ&FORM=VIRE And then there are the Astros - It is still early and to have Skubal, Fried, Cole, Rodon, Lopez, Ragans and so many more missing.

I know we call out Bell, Wallner, Lewis for not hitting and it is frustrating to have Buxton at leadoff with no one on base from the bottom of the lineup, But right now they are not the only issue - we have Outman (121) who cannot pinch hit, Clemens batting 184, Kriedler 214 and Caratini 200. No bench, and a lot of louse hitters. Love what Buxton did, but when Keaschall at 232 is the fourth best bat in the lineup we need to win some more 2 - 1 games, but then there is the rotation!

Twins Place Taj Bradley on IL
mikelink45 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is time for the team to reset based on the reality it faces - Abel extending his IL, Taj down, Lopez out, SWR struggling, Culpepper a learning rookie. At least we can start with Ryan - No question - Zebby. How about giving Morris a start, we keep Culpepper going. Now I struggle - SWR does not seem like he deserves to continue, but there is no choice. Remember when SP was our strength? RP sure isn't. Our fielding isn't and 1/2 out starting lineup isn't. Wow - doesn't leave much. -
The Twins Aren't Serious About Rebuilding The Bullpen

Garcia and Banda are an example of the BP frustration. It is easier to watch young arms struggle than to see older vets fail.- 47 replies

Guardians 6, Twins 4: Apple TV Game Goes Awry
mikelink45 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Outman and Wallner - provide a collective 24 for 155 - .154BA and -1.5 WAR I would guess they are lucky our replacements are all on the IL and will have to play a few games when they come back before getting a promotion. We get to watch this duo for at least two more weeks. But maybe Wallner can have another of those games where we can say - he is showing signs of progress again.- 23 replies

Kaelen CulpepperConnor Prielipp He is here in Twins rotation - not much to dislike.Walker Jenkins Too many injuries so far - but I am hoping for health and a quick promotionDasan Hill Not worried about size - I remember Tommy HallMarek Houston Looks like he is getting his bat to match his outstanding fielding. Can't wait for Houston at SS and Culpepper at 3BEmmanuel RodriguezKendry Rojas We have seen him in the majors and I think he needs to be given a longer leash - we have enough bad pitcher in the BP that he should fit in quickly. Andrew Morris He is doing it in the Pen and I expect he might take SWR place soon, Riley QuickKhadim Diaw I hope he can keep his bat going and stay at Catcher I want Diaw and Tait to be the pair in 27Eduardo Tait He needs to get his bat going. John Klein He is up and looks like he might be a good BP piece. Kyler Fedko He has matured at the plate and deserves a chanceGabriel Gonzalez Disappointed so far. I thought he was ready.Charlee SotoHendry MendezCJ CulpepperEduardo BeltreJames EllwangerSantiago Castellanos I tend to favor those closest to MLB.

I love the question - should Rodriguez be called up right now with the report of him going on 7 day IL at the top. I think injuries are the constant threat for his call up.

Nationals 15, Twins 2: This One Was Ugly
mikelink45 replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It really isn't much to say after a game like this but Garcia today is the same player that we've seen each of his turns and that's bad. Topa was supposed to be someone we could count on but I don't see it. As a matter of fact it's hard to find somebody in our bullpen they can give us a clean inning.- 46 replies

What makes it hard is that everybody is taught to strike out walk or hit a home run. We used to have teams or everybody hit 250 to 3:25 which meant that you could string some things together and oftentimes they may not hit home runs but doubles are fine, and still in bases are fine, and hit and run is fine. I watch MLB at night and I get really bored with just home run after home run. That's not a highlight that's one swing and a ball going out I must prefer to see action.

Overall I agree. But Simeon has really looked bad and would look better in the bullpen as it has been stated on this site. Which means he could trade places with Morris and Morris could be number five or we could believe in the improvement in Matthews and he could be number five. When we or another somebody else has to be number five.

I read all of the posts and agree with keeping Buxton. But having him lead us to success is still questionable if we don't put more players around him. Baseball's one of those strange games or one player doesn't make a difference the way it does and the NBA. Just look at Mike trout.

What can they do with Lewis? He does not seem to have anything close to his initial swagger and without a personal believe he cannot climb out of this hole. A utility man seems to have his 3B position right now and he has earned it.
