  1. The problem with this rotation is that it involves using Caratini and his career .692 OPS at two premium offensive positions. Not a good plan in my opinion.
  2. I remember reading that the Twins draft room erupted when Young was still on the board at #54. Big tools across the board. The Twins scouts loved him. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
  3. The best indicator that Outman has already played his best baseball is that Friedman traded him for a rental reliever. Friedman doesn't trade a meaningful talent for Brock Stewart.
  4. Come on Cody. The Twins have played a handful of games. None of the guys you mentioned are in a perilous position at this point.
  5. 1. That is just a terrible defensive lineup. 2. Why is Larnach ceded a starting job? His bat isn't good enough to justify his terrible defense. He needs to be traded. 3. Good lord that's a terrible defensive lineup. 4. Martin has to be a lock. It looked like his OF defense made real strides during the year. He gets on base. He steals bases. Give him a chance against RHP. 5. That defensive lineup....ugh! 6. There should be no consideration for options. Outman either shows he can hit or he is DFA. All we gave up was a perennially injured middle reliever for him.
  6. This is so true. I think back to our last prospect with advanced strike zone awareness, Edouard Julien. He was so strike zone obsessed that he would stand and look at strike 3 with runners on base if he didn't get his pitch.
  7. Given Lewis' history with soft tissue injuries, I wouldn't exactly tell him to run at will. I have a good feeling about Martin. He may well become more than a platoon player. The idea that corner outfielders have to hit for power is overrated. Get on base, put pressure on the defense and play good defense.
  8. We went to the game. It was fun to finally see Jenkins, Culpepper, E-Rod and even Sabato Gigante. Jenkins legged out a double in his first at bat. Scouting report on Zebby is that he threw his fastball and sinker 95-97, cutter 92 and curve 80-82. Nothing we didn't already know.
  9. Yes, trade them all. Ryan, Buxton, Jeffers, etc. Bring up Jenkins, Culpepper, E-Rod, Gonzales, all the kid pitchers. Throw them into the fire to take their lumps. Then Derek Shelton... aka The Most Interesting Man In The World...can go Rick Pitino on the media.... "Tony Oliva is not walking through that door, and Rod Carew is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through that door, they’re going to be gray and old … I wish we had a $200 million payroll. I wish we could buy the world. We can’t; the only thing we can do is work hard, and all the negativity that’s in this town sucks. I’ve been around when Mike Marshall was booed." Or maybe start the season and see what unfolds by the deadline.
  10. I look at Wallner in terms that he is the same age as Rooker when the Twins gave up on him. The biggest difference is that Wallner has been a whole lot more productive than Rooker was during his Twins tenure. Does this mean Wallner is destined to be a multi time all star and a silver slugger winner? No. I do think it's too soon to write Wallner off or to say he can't make the next step.
  11. I think it's safe to say the door is wide open for which ever pitching prospects step up during spring training. Ryan, Ober and Richardson are obvious locks. Then there are 4 pitchers competing for 2 spots.
  12. It's unrealistic to think Larnach could be the main piece in a deal that would yield anything more than a mid 30's rag arm. The kind of pitcher who would block a spot better used on developing young pitchers. Chase Petty? Wouldn't that be something to trade him away for Sonny Gray and get him back for Trevor Larnach?
  13. Lee is a placeholder at SS. Defensively, he just doesn't have the goods. The things Lee needs to improve can't be taught or refined. The best realistic outcome is that Lee figures things out at the plate while the Twins figure out where he will play long term.
  14. Duran was moved to the pen as a means to get him to the bigs sooner. It was supposed to be temporary, but the Twins decided they liked him in the role. Duran actually wanted to move back to the rotation. I think he would have done great as a starter with his assortment of plus pitches. Prielipp had no health issues last year as a starter. Like I said, start him until he shows he can't be a starter.
  15. At this point, I renew my appeal not to move Prielipp to the pen. There is now going to another rotation opportunity for a young arm. Stretch Prielipp out and could well get an opportunity after the trade deadline.
  16. Keep him on the path to being a starter until he shows he can't be a starter. Starters are the core of the pitching staff. Right now Prielipp has a better arsenal than the guys who are vying for the last rotation spots. Keep stretching him out and he could make his debut this year.
  17. I wouldn't say generates the most excitement. More like causes the smallest gag reflex. Is our roster really that bad that this an intriguing spring training topic.
  18. Absolutely not. Signing guys like Giolito and Littell just clogs the path in front of the guys we need to develop.
  19. When Derek Shelton flirted with danger, danger got clingy He once parallel parked a train....
  20. Awesome man! We used to make that trip every year too. Then we moved down here. Ian aside, life on the beach is great. Sunsets over the gulf never disappoint. Spring training is still special. That's when hope springs eternal.
  21. Prielipp was healthy last year. He has pretty well been healthy since his UCL surgery. The issue now is simply building his pitch count and stretching him out. Look at the starter, bullpen, AAA series of columns. Prielipp has a more complete arsenal of plus pitches than the immediate candidates for the rotation. Stretch him out. He could make his starting debut by mid season.
  22. This is all subject to spring training when we find out what if any adjustments these pitchers have made and the impact of those adjustments. Leave Abel in the rotation in AAA. He needs refinement. Taj, Festa and Zebby can fight it out for that 5th spot. Due to the WBC, all of them should plenty of run. Depending on ST performances, the two losers can move to the pen or start in AAA. Raya, Morris and Lewis should move to the pen. Leave Prielipp and Rojas as starters in AAA.
  23. I don't think the key with Bradley is fewer fastballs. Secondary pitches tend to be less effective when batters start to see them more and more. The Twins need to adjust his fastball. One of the few things I liked from Falvey was his creating off season pitching camps for prospects. They have camps set up to add velocity and modify spin. I would hope they sent Bradley, Abel, etc. to refine their pitches ahead of spring training.
