    I don't see any rational argument for Abel and Kremer in the rotation ahead of Prielipp and Matthews. Able has hardly pitched and Kremer at 31 really isn't worth keeping.

    He needs to get through spring training with the job first (assuming there is one). The best laid season end projections have a knack for unraveling the following spring.

    Jefferson has a 3+ war, yet the Twins have a winning record in the games he was on the shelf. WAR is just an amazingly overrated number.

    On a 1 year contract that can be moved at deadline? It's an overpay, but not an absurd one and I doubt he accepts it. Boras will convince him there is more money to be made on a multi year deal now. 1 year $23.6M vs 3 years at about $39M or 4 years at about $52M.

    I see a qualifying offer as the absolute highest probability. He won't accept it and the Twins will collect a top 50 draft choice. Even if he accepts, the Twins have him as a mainstay of the lineup for the season. If they contend, he helps them win. If they don't contend, they'll trade him at the deadline.

    Can't sum it up any better. When is the last time the Twins could write in a name at SS and forget about it? If the worst case scenario comes to pass with Houston, I would be happy with them continuing to write Culpepper in at SS.

    A couple of points 1. Culpepper has looked like belongs from day 1. There has never been a moment where he has looked over his head. The move up to the second spot in the order was well earned. That was a quality AB when he delivered the insurance run. 2. Keaschall is figuring it out in the OF. He is still adjusting to some nuances like playing carroms, but his athleticism is really playing well in the OF. He made some very nice plays in right last night.

    Agreed. If they give him proper rest between starts, there is no reason Prielipp can't finish the season. He should be unlimited by next season.

    Wow. I said he better at 3B than SS, but would probably be a better fit at 2B. What negativity.

    Lee's play at 3B is good relative to his play at SS. I wouldn't call his play great at 3B great. I think he is a more natural 2B with his combined range, arm and IQ. If Houston ultimately claims SS, I like Culpepper with his reflexes and cannon arm at 3B.

    He will probably have to cover half the ground playing a corner as he covers in CF. It also means less sustained acceleration. That's a huge saving on his legs over the course of a season. At 33, he will be more susceptible to and take longer to recover from the soft tissue injuries like the persistent labrum ones he is currently dealing with. There are no guarantees regarding, but reducing wear and tear on his body improves his odds of staying on the field.

    Buxton needs to move out of CF right now. Full stop. It's not a matter of whether he can still field the position better than Jenkins. The Twins need to preserve his body, especially his legs. Buxton will need to cover half the ground in a corner spot. Leave Jenkins in CF. He is at least adequate there. Beyond that, Jenkins just needs to show he can run, field and hit.

    No, he's on first. But seriously, I would put Lee there. He always seemed most like a second baseman to me.

    Personally, I'd rather have the fast twitch athlete at 3B. The ball comes a lot faster down 3B way and reflexes and quickness are key. Not to mention Culpepper's big arm. Since 2B is right side, range is less critical. Second basemen can position deeper because of the short throw.

    No he hasn't. Lee has been about league average defensively at 3B. His hitting has definitely profiled well at the position. I just always envisioned Lee's defensive home to ultimately be 2B.

    I wouldn't classify Lee's defensive performance at 3B as very good. Maybe adequate, definitely better than he was at SS, but not very good. I could easily see Culpepper with his quickness, reflexes and big arm sliding to 3B if and when Houston reaches the majors.

    The idea that the Twins were ever a viable playoff contender was always fool's gold. Way too many regressions to the mean were due. Being within a couple of games of a playoff spot at the deadline was the worst thing that could have happened. The Twins added at a time they should have been clearing the decks for Culpepper, Jenkins and more.

    Last year the White Sox went all in on their youth movement and are loving the results. The Twins need to continue their own youth movement. Get Emma up here. We need to see what he can do against major league pitching and time is running out. Move Houston up to AAA. We need to see him next year (assuming there is a next year).

    He needs to be up here too and playing every day next to Jenkins.

    The Twins playoff aspirations were always a mirage. Whether Jenkins would helped is irrelevant. He should have been up here gaining experience and helping forge a new nucleus on this team.

    I have a couple of friends down here in Florida who are Chicago transplants. They were telling me how much they loved that the Sox purged mediocre vets and went with the kids last year and this year. They are loving the results. We've been begging the Twins to do that all year. We've been waiting to see Culpepper, Emma and Jenkins together up here. It's past time to demote, Jackson, Roden and any other dead weight. There is only have 5 weeks to gage what Emma can do against major league pitching. They need to do it now! Bring up him and Jenkins and play them every day. Make room for Festa too.

    In other words, he is a rookie adjusting to the major leagues. I'm excited until Culpepper gives me reason not to be excited. He isn't Kriedler and he isn't Gray. Those are two good reasons to be excited. Culpepper has legitimate talent. That's another reason to be excited. Quit digging into analytics to figure out if this is real or not or if you should be excited. That's just overthinking. Do what old farts like me have done for decades...watch the kid play and enjoy.

    An all too small sample size trend, that I am none the less enjoying, is Culpepper getting late inning hits. He has plenty to learn about major league pitchers, but he hasn't looked to be in over his head to this point.

    I'm for moving Buck to a corner spot for the mere fact that LF & RF are a lot less wear and tear on the legs than CF. Buxton's repeated labrum injuries are probably an indicator that the Twins should reduce his milage. Especially at his age. The farther north of 30 you get, the easier it is to get those strains and the longer they take to heal.
