  1. They bought Garcia for a low minors lottery ticket and traded him for two guys in the high minors. I think this all says More about the deals that were available than it does about one week of baseball. We need pitching sooner than later and those two guys are better for the team long term than Ynoa or Garcia
  2. Are there teams that don't do this? The key is doing a better job of it than the other teams. Just because the Twins have been worse than other teams in developing pitchers doesn't mean all the ways that they have sought and developed talent in the past are a failure. The key is to get better at the parts of it that you've been bad at it. There is Nothing wrong with finding Indy league talent or bringing up the best guy even though he is a former Indy leaguer. The problem here, I think, is that all of us here are skeptical to varying degrees about this years moves because of the past 5 years AND because Falvine have not finished the organizational make over. I think Turley and Melvilles success at AAA says they were the right moves bringing them into the organizatio., I'm just not convinced Boshers (Turley, Melville) should be in the Majors over Reed (Gonsalves, Hurlbut, Romero, Slegers) at this point. I might be wrong and there is no way to know for sure until Reed gets his chance. Until our team completes the turn around we will all maintain at least some skepticism
  3. Not sure what the deal is but this year promotions seem to be even harder to come by than they used to be for some players putting up outstanding stats. If Reed keeps this up and is not on the MLB club by the end of the season, my head just might explode.
  4. I was/am really hoping some playoff team needs a defensive catcher due to injury and trades for Gimenez so Garver can get that LOOOOOOOOONNGGGGG overdue promotion. It is time and he shouldn't be blocked by veterans anymore...
  5. Isn't his season BA getting close to MLB ready? He's ahead of Laudner circa 1987.... Call him up!!
  6. I think Romero seems like someone who should be jumping towards the top of the Twins prospects list. Is Gonsalves really still ahead of Romero? I look forward to seeing a Rotation that starts Berrios, Romero, May, Gonsalves, Mejia in 2019... Possibly 2018 with a Santana mixed in.
  7. Baxendale has pitched 54.1 innings for AAA Rochester and has a 2.98 ERA. He has appeared in 29 games, 25 of those in relief but when he has started, they have given him a maximum of 3 innings so really he has been a reliever all year. Opposing tams are hitting .262 against him and a and he has a 1.27 WHIP. He has a 6.6 K/9 and a 2.5 W/9. He keeps the ball in the yard having allowed just 2 HRs this year and he has a career HR/9 of .6. Despite what look like solid AAA numbers, Baxendale has been sent to Chattanooga for Rochesters playoff push.
  8. I am saddened by this news. He seemed to me to be very influential in his short time here. He was the consumate veteran leader type, consumate professional and a good ball player. I rooted for him in each of his managerial stops. May God bless and comfort his family in this time of sorrow.
  9. Busenitz is currently enjoying his third round in the majors but continues to fly under the radar here in TD land and across Twins territory. For the Twins he has pitched 10.2 innings. He has struck out 5 and allowed 4 earned runs for a 3.35 ERA in an extremely small sample size. He has also walked just 3 hitters. Alan Paul has given up 3 home runs in that SSS which gets people to sit up and notice (we always notice the fireworks don't we) but his overall body of work is ok with the big club. For Rochester, APB has tossed 35.1 innings and allowed 7 runs for a 1.78 ERA. With 39 strike outs, his AAA K rate is over double what we are seeing so far in the majors. Another part of that lower ERA would be not allowing any Home runs in Rochester. He has only allowed 10 walks all season and he has a 0.82 AAA WHIP. This all may be aided by some luck as his opponents BABIP is .235 vs a career (and more normal) BABIP of .326
  10. 3.5 games back from a one game lottery ticket on the road to hope to make the REAL playoffs... I don't know why people are so excited about the possibility of being a wild card team... that isn't really that good of a thing in baseball. We need to build to winning a division and being serious playoff contenders
  11. In his first full season at AAA, The Lefty has hurled his butt off to the tune of an 8-5 record with a 3.34 ERA in 97 innings. He has a 2.0 W/9 and 7.0 K/9 and his WHIP is ok at 1.33. So why is he not a call up? Well, his BAA is .285 (fangraphs says .279?) and GO/AO rate while still at 1.26 is .38 less than his career rate of 1.64. A ground ball machine in the lower minors has not fully translated to AAA. (Yet?) Last year in AA before his promotion, the rate was 1.71. Hurlbuts BABIP this year is .334 and his career BABIP is .299.
  12. Don't get me wrong on my Rosario inclusion. Honestly, my untouchables on the team start and stop with Sano/Berrios. I'm a big believer in Buxton and I am convinced he will figure things out and be a perenial all star one day but he's not yet in That same untouchable range. Right now would be selling low on him though so, like Mauer, were not trading him now. I also didn't include Castro in the Catcher conversation because I don't see the FO parting with him. My inclusion of Rosario comes from the idea that after Buxton/Kepler, we have an outfielder to spare. For the long term I think Grossman would be the best trade now guy but for this year, Grossman is a productive bat that would be hard to lose in a playoff run. In other words, my list was based on what I see as the most likely conversations and Why I believe another or more moves will happen.
  13. All along The FO has been saying "Contollable" and yet we did not get that in this week moves. I say yet... Here's what I'm seeing: Gibson has never met his potential and some team is going to think they can fix him. I'm shopping that We have 5 catchers on the 40 and someone will want one of them. I'm shopping Murphy, Gimenez, Recker as backups. We have two utility infielders and with Polanco, the 3 are splitting the short stop position Gordon is wanting to claim. I'm talking to teams about all 3 and Dozier. Someone needs to leave and make room for the future. I'm willing to listen to anyone interested in Rosario, Granite, or Grossman. Ok, so most of that is going too bring back anything too exciting but can it get a good controllable relief pitcher? Sure. Prospects gained can also be packaged and flipped. But I also see the FO setting themselves up with the flexibility to do these things. I think it's gonna be a fun weekend waiting too see who blinks and what will be coming our way. Something will happen.
  14. So what if we ARE giving up one of our TOP prospects and are also getting back a Top 15 prospect of theirs? Wasnt the rumor that we are also getting a prospect? I have heard a lot of speculation on "who are we giving up" and nothing on "who else are we getting". Maybe I shouldnt suggest this because it could just blow up TD but...IF we were giving up a Gordon type...Who else do we get back?
  15. you forgot "not that bad" which goes between ok and bad
  16. This small addition also improves the bullpen if he can just allow the bullpen to get more rest between outings
  17. Those losses to the Yankees were so demoralizing. It was hard to enjoy the regular season because in the back of your mind you knew they were gonna lose to those *#*#+# Yankees. I hate Jeter, ARod and Mariano for it though I respect 2/3 of them as players. If only they had not been on those *#*#+# Yankees teams I could have enjoyed their careers more...
  18. I think you missed a categorie of "meh...". A few of your "doing well"s should be Meh... And a couple of "bad"s should also be in that Meh... Categorie. For instance, Santiago has been a career "Meh..." Guy and a -0.2 isn't super bad but it's definitely not good either... Sorta like Gibsons career. Honestly, Dozier has been more Meh... Than good This year for me... Should there be another categorie for "OK" above Meh... And below good? Maybe Santiago belongs below Meh... But above bad?
  19. In my experience negativity does not produce the results the person being negative desires. It just drags people and discussions down to the lowest common denominator and leaves everyone involved feeling unfulfilled. That doesn't mean you can't look at things with a critical eye and examine how to improve things. Let's be honest, this team has some serious flaws! But what team doesn't? We have these grand concepts of what a championship team should look like and all the while flawed teams are winning championships. Where are the Cubs today? Man, after last year, I thought they had a Dynasty type team... I guess it was the Astros...until next year...Heck, the Astros haven't even won the WS yet this year. Maybe the Cubs will surge back and win Back to back. We don't know yet... Who was the favorite in '87? '91? There is a potential thread topic... How often does the best team with the fewest "flaws" win? To be honest, I like our young flawed team. I like a lot of players on it. There is a player on it that I have not liked and have not understood why so many posters supported him the past 3-4 years. He is still on the team and has lost pretty much all of his supporters but as long as he is on the team I will hope he turns things around. Honestly, I think many here have been too hard on him this year.
  20. So the Red Sox are believed to be shopping for a 3B. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/boston-red-sox What if we sent them utility player EE to fill that hole? What could we get back and could we use prospects acquired (I would assume we're not getting controllable MLB ready pitchers) to flip and package with some of our own for one of those young controllable starters from someone else?
  21. I was unable to find the page to enter the sweepstakes. I'm glad it's not April first or I'd think I'd been had...
  22. I like this game but will reserve my final opinions for 2 1/2 more weeks as there is way too much depending on whether or not the new brass acquire a SP at the deadline. I will say our number one will either be a new acquisition before the deadline or Berrios.
  23. Agree in a perfect world but our biggest trade chips are MLB or close to MLB ready players if we're going to trade for starting pitching. We're going to have to be ok with trading Polanco or Gordon and one of the OF if talks are even gonna start
