  1. Wow. The signing tracker shows that we have 19 agreed already with 5 from the top ten rounds unsigned. If we sign those five, which normally you expect to get all top 10 rounds signed, that will be 24 plus there are two Seniors unsigned, that would make 26...we might know our whole list of draft signings already...
  2. Could they find a way to be both? Three way trades are more difficult but could they sell on one of Dozier/Polanco/Escobar, along with Grossman, or Gimenez for prospects (maybe more than one other team) that could then be flipped to someone else for controllable pitching. If the right combo is out there, maybe you are even selling Santana as well because you have pitching coming back from a different quarter... Our new front office is young and creative right? lets see that creativity!
  3. Randy Rosario was born May 18th 1994 and grew up in Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic. In August 2010, The Minnesota Twins signed him as an international free agent with an 85,000 signing bonus. Rosario features a Fast Ball that averages 93 MPH but peaks out at 97. He also possesses a plus slider that is described as inconsistent. As a Lefty, many hoped he could stick as a starter but with only two pitches, he was moved to bullpen duty in 2016 fast tracking him towards the Majors. Rosario began his professional life pitching for the DSL Twins in 2011. He appeared inn 13 games, 8 starts, accumulating 35 innings and a 3.86 ERA. It was good enough to be brought over to Fort Myers and a shot at the GCL. In 2012, Rosario dominated the GCL to the tune of a 1.64 ERA with a 0.991 WHIP and a 9.9 K/9 over 38.1 innings. He earned his way one step up to E-Town for one more short season as a teenager still. In 2013, Rosario started all 9 games he pitched in compiling 44.2 innings. His 1.343 WHIP and 2.82 ERA was supported by a 7.5 K/9 and a 3.9 W/9. It was time to move up another level for another year. So after his first 3 years, Rosario had an impressibe cumulative ERA of 2.75 and an 8.01 K/9 plus he had not allowed a single HR yet. 3 games into 2014, Rosario was derailed and on the DL. He needed to have Tommy John surgery after allowing his first two home runs and lost the rest of the season and part of the next. In 2015, Rosario debuted with a two game rehab back in the GCL before heading back to Cedar Rapids. He started 12 of the 13 games he appeared in. He allowed 21 runs in 61.2 innings for a 3.06 ERA and a 1.297 WHIP. His 7.9 K/9 was accompanied by a 2.9 W/9. 2016 was the first year Rosario reached triple digit innings even though he had been primarily a starter his entire career. It was also the year that he was moved to the bullpen after 16 starts. With 100.1 innings, Rosario posted a 3.77 ERA and a 1.465 WHIP. He maintained a 7.0 K/9 and 3.5 W/9. He also allowed 4 home runs and a career high .4 HR/9. Rosario began 2017 by dominating as a reliever to the tune of a 1.90 ERA with 20 K's to 6 Walks and a 0.85 WHIP. He was called up to the Twins June 1. HE pitched in two games for 2.1 innings allowing 8 runs for a 30.86 ERA and a 3.000 WHIP. On the plus side, he struck out 2 (7.7 K/9) and didn't walk anyone. Rosario is back in AA and his ERA has ballooned to 3.16 but his WHIP is still at .955. Rosario is truly a bullpen prospect that will be ready soon but just wasn't quite ready yet. 4. DJ Baxendale was born Dec 8th, 1990 in Arkadelphia Arkansas. He graduated from Sylvan HS in Sherwood Arkansas before attending the University of Arkansas. The Twins drafted DJ in the 10th round, 310th overall in 2012. For more great information, see this AAP page from 2015: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/18128-dj-baxendale-2015/ Brief summary of career: 2012-Reliever ETown 6 games, 7.2 innings 0 runs, 16 K's Beloit 11 games, 11 innings, 2 runs, 15 K's Combined ERA 1.45 and WHIP .804 Having exploded onto the scene with ridiculous success he was moved up to High A 2013-Starter FM 9 games, 57.1 innings, 7.5 K/9, 1.41 ERA Showing domination of another level quickly, he was promoted again. NB 16 games, 92.2 Innings, 6.2 K/9, 6.31 ERA Combined 1.18 WHIP 2014-Mostly Starter Turned into a mess with two stints on the DL. Apr 27th he went down injured and did not return until June 1st. When he was hurt again on July 25th, hecame back Aug 11th in the GCL first and had to work his way back up to AA. He had 2 games in the GCL, 11 in FM and 7 in NB. All these games were as a starter except 3 relief appearances in New Britain. Combined Stats: 90.1 Innings, 5.48 ERA, 6.3 K/9, 1.35 WHIP. 2015-21 of 23 games started Chattanooga all year 118.1 innings, 3.80 ERA, 92 K's, 7 K/9, 1.403 WHIP 2016-Starter in AA, Reliever in AAA Baxendale probably could have been up with Rochester quicker but he spent another stint on the DL in April. Chattanooga: 14 GS, 81 innings Rochester: 23 Games, 35 innings as a reliever Combined: 2.79 ERA, 99 K's, 7.7 K/9 and a 1.155 WHIP This year in Rochester, Baxendale has a solid 1.418 WHIP and 3.86 ERA. He has struck out 22 in 30.1 innings for a 6.5 K/9 in 17 appearances. While these numbers are not exploding off the page, we are still staring at our current bullpen. If Baxendale could put everything in order, there is a chance we will get to see him this year at the MLB level.
  5. Here I thought he was STILL young...
  6. Born: Alan Paul Busenitz, Aug 22, 1990. School: HS at Athens Christian School in Athens Georgia and went to college at Kennesaw State University. Drafted: 25th Round, 2013, Angels Acquired: Aug 1, 2016 from the Angels in trade. The Twins sent Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer to the Angels for Busenitz and Hector Santiago. Minor League Stats: 5 years combined, 3.41 ERA, 1.274 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 2.4 W/9, .5 HR/9, 3.19 K/W For the Red Wings this year, Busenitz has tossed 29.1 innings in 19 appearances posting a 2.15 ERA. He has allowed just 7 Runs and 9 walks while striking our 32 for a 9.8 K/9. He has one just one save. He was called up and made his first appearance yesterday for the Twins. I don't know why he was not called up sooner. For more stats: http://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=buseni000ala For better prospect info than I could ever provide (and the reason I am not even trying): https://puckettspond.com/2017/06/17/minnesota-twins-road-show-alan-busenitz-edition/
  7. Haley remains hidden on the DL. I had some questions: What does spending most of the year on the DL do for Rookie status? How much time can he be on the DL as a Rule 5?
  8. Born: Nov 24, 1989 in Fullerton CA College: Cal State Fullerton Drafted: 35th Round, 2009 (did not sign) 28th Round, 2011 After being drafted in 2011, Hurlbut jumped right to ETown being a college kid and posted his career worst 4.50 ERA in 66 innings. He had a healthy 51 K's to 12 BB's and until this year, a career worst 1.42 WHIP. In 2012 he was sent to Beloit where in 25 games he tossed 111 innings with a very nice 2.76 ERA. He had 85 K's to 25 BB's and a 1.17 WHIP. Hurlbut spent most of 2013 repeating at the Low A level, this time in Cedar Rapids as a reliever 10 of his 24 appearances there with a 4 game call up to Fort Myers exclusively as a starter. He had a combined 2.82 ERA while his K rate spiked to a career high 8.2 and he also posted a career best WHIP at 1.11. 2014 began with Hurlbut pitching well as a starter in FM but on June 3 he went down with injury and did not come back from rehab until Aug 2. He posted a career low ERA of 2.20 and still had a nice WHIP at 1.15 but he also had a career worst K/9 of 4.8. He tossed his first of 4 complete games in 2014. 2015 was his first year exclusively used as a starter. He lost another month to injury but rebounded well and averaged 5.95 innings per game hurling 119 innings to the tune of a 3.18 ERA. He started 17 games for Chattanooga, Two for FM, and had a 1 game appearance for the Red Wings as well. His 5.3 K/9 was second worst only to 2014 and his WHIP "ballooned" to 1.34 but he tossed 2 more complete games and was finally emerging as a starting prospect and not just a guy that would need to transition to reliever in order to make it. Hurlbut began 2016 repeating AA which is one of those things that really frustrates those of us that watch how our minor league starting pitchers are handled. Why wasn't he moved up to Rochester to develop and some of the dead weight moved out? We are seeing more of this this year still...hopefully this is a change Falvine will make in the process in future years after this year of analysis... In any case, 2016, Hurlbut had 23 games in Chattanooga and 5 in Rochester, all as a starter for the second year in a row. He had a combined 3.67 ERA over 162 innings. His K rate improved to 5.8 while his walks plummetted with only 29 walks on the year. He also got this: http://twinsdaily.com/articles.html/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins-minor-leagues/killebrew-award-winner-david-hurlbut-chattanooga-r5156 In 2017, Hurlbut has started 10 games and is holding a 3.79 ERA. He has not completed a 7th inning yet and is averaging 5 and a half innings per start mostly due to one real klunker where he gave up 7 runs in 3 innings. His K/9 is at 6.4 with 3 K's per walk surrendered. He started the season not allowing a run in his first two appearances and only allowing 5 runs in his first 5 games combined. 4 of the last 5 games have been solid but he did have that klunker... Combining all 7 seasons, Hurlbut has 3.15 K's per walk, a 1.297 WHIP, 6.2 K9 and he surrenders a home run once per 18 innings pitched. His name has come up as someone that could be given a shot over the likes of Tepesch and Wilk. I am not sure he would do much better as a rookie than the other two but with a name like Hurlbut and with our current state of affairs in the starting rotation, he may get that shot. If he does, we are hoping for 5 innings allowing 3-4 runs. Hey, if he does that, it would be a big improvement over many we have seen...
  9. Welcome aboard, I'm ok with this though I think the proper protocol would be after they are signed. It sounds like several are signed but we only have Lewis officially on the Twins page... What is the method to our madness? Oh, Madness? Go ahead, I say, start the page!
  10. This is all over the Twins site as well http://m.mlb.com/min/roster/transactions/ http://m.twins.mlb.com/news/
  11. I intended it to be a signings thread without realizing there would be so many comments on Just Rooker...
  12. I don't get why he hasn't gotten a chance yet. Nice article on not just Busenitz, but several relievers that are doing very well. (Some like Busenitz are not yet adoppted
  13. Brent Rooker agrees to terms http://www.twincities.com/2017/06/15/twins-agree-to-terms-with-mississippi-state-slugger-brent-rooker/
  14. The gap is closing but if playoffs or World Series started tomorrow... Santana
  15. Carlson is a RHP..reading between the lines, I think what you would like is college starter.
  16. Leeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
  17. Personally I put more emphasis on results as sometimes a guy just needs to bulldog through a rough day but if it becomes a pattern, I become concerned
  18. Palacios had a great day: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/26277-article-twins-minor-league-report-69-palacios-tallies-13-total-bases/?do=findComment&comment=635640 He now has 12 doubles, 6 triples, and 10 Home runs. With all that, his slugging is still lower than his breakout 2015 season. His 327/368/566 slash does not have any career high numbers in it and his OBP is only higher than last years final OBP. He only has 10 walks to 40 Ks this year. Overall he has 75 career walks to 147 Ks so he is walking less than normal. To me, all of this suggests sustainability. Also interesting to me is that Palacios has not played anywhere but SS the last two years after playing all four infield positions and LF in his first two seasons. To me this suggests that the brass see him as a SS and are going to give him all the time in the world to prove he belongs. I hope his FPCT can rise above the current .956 but that remains a career high FPCT since coming to the states. In 2017, He has 10 errors in 227 chances while turning 24 DPs
  19. Palacios has been an underrated prospect mostly because of his injury plagued 2016 and him still being in the lower levels in the minors. This is his second "breakout" season but he's in low A. His glove seems to be improving statistically but he's not going to really rise on the prospect lists until he continues this success in High A and remains healthy. For more on Jermaine Palacios his Adopt a Prospect page is here: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/25706-jermaine-palacios-2017/
  20. I'm hoping to start these pages in the next week before the draft brings us several more we will want to adopt plus the rookie leaguers currently in EXST... Would love if others would join me in this task.
