  1. I would like to see Garver play on the same team as Castro so he can learn from him up close. I believe Garver is our future there, mentor him in.
  2. Agree. I would much prefer giving wheeler a shot over wilk/tepesh
  3. Looking at the minors has been depressing this year because of the injuries. Gonsalves, Thorpe and Reed are getting back at it now but Burdi, Kirriloff, etc... Tough to keep reading about all these.
  4. Haley has only appeared in 16.1 innings so far this year. He has one save but has not logged a hold, win or loss yet. Haley's ERA is a nice (sarcasm) 6.06 with a 1.41 WHIP having allowed 11 Earned runs including 3 home runs. The opposition is hitting 281/338/531 for a solid (if your the opposing team) 869 OPS against him. Hmmm....Silver linings... Haley is throwing 64% of his pitches for strikes and has a 7.16 K/9 vs a 2.76 BB/9. These are indeed solid numbers. Some interesting numbers: He likes the 4 seam fastball and has thrown 187 of them (dude needs to throw something else more?) His avg FB is 90.26 MPH and has an exit velocity of 83.82 when hit. Also, Fantasy predictions have his ERA dropping to 4.26 by the end of the year so some stats geeks somewhere think he's had some bad luck...
  5. Check out this cool article at MLB trade rumors https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/tommy-john-sucks-but-maybe-not-as-much-as-you-think.html
  6. HOF career is the potential I see. He has the tools and the drive. If he stays healthy and focused, that is his ceiling.
  7. Wow, that was quite an assumption...Actaully, Portugal is the only one of those starting pitchers named that I had forgotten. I remember well Carlton and Niekro and I remember what they did that season, where they were in their careers, and where they were by the time the post season rolled around. Guess you missed my point
  8. Would I make a trade if it improves the team? Yeah, but I think any palatable trade would be with another team in a similar position to us (pseudo contender with a major weakness) except a team with extra pitching (which rarely exists). We would have to trade out of our excess to get their excess. Example: find a Team that has 7 ready pitchers desperate for an outfielder AND DH (Really really desperate) AND Wade is ready in FO mind. Start Trade talk with Park and Rosario for pitcher controllable for 2-3 years that can win about but not quite half his games. Others that could become part of the conversation would be Gimenez (Garver ready), Murphy, Grossman, Vielma, Polanco, (Gordon ready), Escobar. There are some things you could do but your getting back limited upside. I don't think you need to go all in but what is expected in return needs to be tempered as well
  9. And THAT is still the big question... Here we sit on top of the division still much to all of our surprise and as we examine the team we see so many pitching flaws that we can't help asking ourselves, "when will this bubble burst?" To be honest, so far, this team reminds me a lot of the 1987 team. Do you remember our starting pitchers NOT named Blyleven or Viola? I do and there were some BAD names there and yet somehow we just kept hanging around and hung around through the World Series. I am by no means saying this team is gonna win the World Series but will that bubble burst or is the rest of the division so bad we can make the post season and if we make the post season, can 3 good starters and a very limited BP carry us again? Is Sano this teams version of Kirby? Suddenly I feel like I shoulda started a thread instead of this long reply... Hmm, Haley... I don't know what the right answer is there...
  10. Correct, October 1992. He has played 30 games, not sure how many he has not played in...Problem is that this "Slow Start" is following last years slow year...He hasn't had an OPS over 750 since 2013. He just isn't producing and he was drafted for his Bat if I remember right.
  11. I don't like this move. Disappointed

As he has moved away from 3B, his defense has seemed to improve. Unfortunately his prospect status has been dropping and this year is not helping his case.

  14. Both great interviews, I really enjoyed Dozier and Molitor playing Twins or not Twins
  15. Whoa, this surprises me...
  16. Palacios has now scored 31 runs in 36 games plus 20 RBI's. That is pretty solid production without looking too deeply at stats. His Slash is down to 336/381/537 for a 918 OPS. He has 8 doubles, 5 triples and 4 four baggers in 160 plate appearances. He has struck out 27 times and only walked 7 but he has also been hit by a pitch 4 times. In 10 Stolen Base attempts, he has been caught 4 times for a 60% success rate. Defensively, he has logged all 315.1 innings at SS with 156 chances resulting in 148 outs and 8 errrors for a .949 FPCT and a RF/9 of 4.22. He has also assisted in 17 double plays.
  17. Maybe it is time to cut bait on Haley or make a trade so he can be optioned/recalled... Actually I will predict Rucinski continues to get the yo-yo treatment.
  18. I like the idea of having Garver up with Castro to mentor him on the advance stats part of receiving while we still have Castro. My guess is that they (Falvey/Lavine) are trying to introduce the same systems in Rochester as we have recently heard about in the majors. My vote is to bring up Garver when he has learned some new things defensively so as to get mentored, get ready to take over and trade a catcher at the All Star Break...Just need one of the catchers to build enough value to get some value back...
  19. There is an article on the Twins website that has announced Mejia will be the Saturday starter... It's been there all day...
  20. A one hit game woulda raised his BA me thinks...Hopefully this is a precursor of things to come.
  21. Not bad form to campaign for pitcher of the day when he deserves it...
  22. No people do not talk about prospects and pitchers coming up and say they are a #1 but not a potential "Ace". They are "Aces" or they are #2, #3 or whatever when we talk about them on here and in other media. And, No, I don't think Pelfrey when he was on our team was considered a number one nor an "Ace" And, That is not what I was saying. The best guy on a team isn't necessarily good. But what I'm saying is that maybe we need to expand our thinking. Maybe we should even ditch using a subjective term like "Ace" There should be more guys we consider #1s and recognize that some teams have a couple number ones pitching for them. To say there are only 5-10 number one pitchers isn't realistic or logical but there are maybe only 5-10 SuperStars doing it year in and year out. The term "Ace" therefore is a deceptive and, always will be, a subjective unmeasurable term used in a game known for its numbers and statistics.
  23. I've been thinking a lot about this in the past 24 hours so let's use logic. 30 Teams, 30 #1, 30 #2, 30 #3, 30 #4, 30 #5...it's what you have...a rotation. If you have only 10 Aces, then you have to have pitchers you call #1 but not an Ace...no one thinks that way. Logic part dos: An Ace is a card from a deck of cards. Ace in a deck is a number 1.
  24. Awesome! This article excites me about the future. If we can get Garver onto that same page as Castro and Gimenez and Berrios/Mejia on that same page as Santiago/Hughs/Santana, now we have a rotation. There is the thing...Who will buy into this new system and who won't. Flush the system of those that won't and move forward. (That includes coaching) This is all another sign that we are dealing with a one year audition for EVERYONE and the big changes will happen mid-season trades, end of season cuts and firings.
