  1. I can see champagne and craziness for making the World Series or for Winning the World Series. All the other celebrations are fine but maybe they should be just a little more reserved, sorta like you're happy but you realize you haven't won the WS quite yet. The same goes for the walk off celebrations...maybe what we see during the regular season should be a little more reserved but in the playoffs, yeah, go nuts!
  2. Um, I think I forgot to put in my response to the OP or something...
  3. As an American High school teacher, I am surprised by the responses (or should I say lack there of) to this OP. Are Americans actually capable of following directions or has the OP received a total of 0 PMs? I'm so stunned right now...
  4. Happiest surprise has to be Hildenberger. Of all the MiLB pitching prospects we were talking about to start the season, who woulda guessed him being the standout new reliever in the bigs.
  5. Anyone got some bones to toss?
  6. We have been hearing about a lot of makeover going on throughout the Twins minor league system from scouts to MiLB coaches and staff to the analytics department. My concern is that I am only hearing about the firings. When TR was let go we anxiously waited then heard who the replacements were "and there was much rejoicing". What I have not seen this year are the reports or even rumors of who replaces them. Who's coming in should be more exciting than who is going out I would hope...
  7. Rosario finishes the year having pitched 61 innings and appearing in 34 minor league games. Since his MLB audition, his stats continued to balloon. He had 1-0 record with a 3.84 ERA when all was said and done. He only allowed 23 walks while mowing down 48 batters, but Opposing teams hit .258 against him and he had a 1.34 WHIP. Hopefully this offseason he can wrap his head around what happened in the Majors and come back strong for Rochester in the Spring. I don't think this kid is done, he is just down for the time being. I predict he gets back up and we see good things next year.
  8. Those dang Angels just keep hanging around... They make me real nervous. Otherwise, it looks like it is now 3 teams fighting for two spots. I like our odds. I like the Yankees odds more.
  9. Which is still a pretty decent year...
  10. Hurlbut has finished his first complete AAA season having only gotten a taste of AAA the past two seasons. He made 23 appearances, 22 starts, and finished with a 10-8 record and a 3.44 ERA in 130.2 total innings. He walked 30 while striking out 103 hitters. He gave up an opposing BA of .292 and had a 1.39 WHIP when the season came to a close. So in the end, I would say solid but not spectacular results. I am unsure what will happen with Hurlbut in the off season but he would make a solid AAA pitcher next year if we have room. My forecast is that we lose him to MiLB free agency as we have other more promising prospects. He will turn 28 in a couple months, so, If he comes back, he might be best served trying to transition to the Bullpen. In any case, his prospect status is running out. As a starter he may remain AAAA type pitcher.
  11. In 121 games, Vielma had 415 at bats. He accumulated 95 hits but only 19 were for extra bases with 17 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs on the year. He induced a walk 25 times and struck out 85 times. No one give him an intentional walk. This left his triple slash at 229/273/280 for a 552 OPS. He collected 43 runs and 35 RBI's along the way which all resulted in a DFA at the end of the MiLB season. He was claimed off waivers and is now on the Giants 40 man roster. So ends Vielma's prospect status as a Twin and this AAP is a wrap!
  12. David Ortiz (he wasn't any of the banned groups while with us...)
  13. My first impression from this list is that there was a little "Prospect Bias" to some of the voting by just looking purely at the stats provided. There is plenty of room for argument about what could be some shuffling of rankings. What a closer examination reveals to me is that while there were several pitchers showing mid to back of the rotation stuff, no one just came out and completely blew us away like Berrios and Gonsalves have done previously. There appears to be a lot of hope. I hope that some of the hope turns into more than just hope. Please, someone, blow us away next Spring...
  14. Just reading this, you can tell he's a raw youth. Fun to read his ramblings first person instead of through the interpretation of a reporter. That the Twins allowed him to pursue Team Canada was a nice gesture on their part. Thank you for sharing Seth
  15. Mejia pitched all of 6 games, all starts for Rochester. He tossed 28.2 innings which is not what you are looking for in a prospect (Less than 5 innings average? ouch). He allowed 26 hits and 6 walks for a 1.12 WHIP and a .241 BAA. He finished the AAA season with a 1-1 record and a 2.83 ERA. Not included in these stats are his Sept. 9th playoff game for Chattanooga on a rehab assignment. He pitched 5 shut out innings allowing only 1 hit and no runs. He has yet to be recalled but I assume he will be at some point. Mejia has completed his Minor League Season and with 88 innings of MLB ball under his belt, as far as I'm concerned, he is no longer a prospect so this is a Wrap!
  16. Nik Turley has been up and down with the MLB club all season and was a Sept. Recall so his season is not finished. His minor league season is though so here are his final numbers and why he is a call up despite his poor MLB results: Turley has Hurley'd 92 innings in the minors with about 72% of those coming in Rochester and the rest in Chattanooga. He has induced a combined .198 BAA and 124 K's for a nice 1.04 WHIP and a 2.05 ERA while allowing only 29 BB's and 4 HR's. He appeared in 23 games, 13 as a starter finishing with a 5-5 record. In the majors, he has only 16 innings to his stat line and the rest of the stats don't look much better. It probably doesn't help that he has added 4 more home runs in the Majors to his stat line...
  17. Gene Larkin-Thought he would be great...well, he had a great moment Mickey Hatcher-Fan favorite. No Glory, no rings, but unforgettable. Steve Lombardozzi-Just listening to little kids trying to say his name made him a great memory. Doug Mientkewietz-I still have to ask my middle child if I spelled it correctly and she always gets it right. (I'll quit there...for now...)
  18. After each series would indeed be fun! Thank you for the two already and yes, please continue!
  19. I don't mind keeping Perk on the active 40 man roster the remainder of the season as a veteran presence as long as he is not called upon in key spots unless and until he shows he's all the way back (which I just don't foresee happening)
  20. Better yet, we solve two problems in one by sending him to North Korea AS the nuke... Too far? Sorry...
  21. My Predictions: Barring more injuries, Who you see is who you will get for the remainder of the season at Catcher. Next summer, Castro will be the full time catcher and Garver the back up being mentored. Gimenez will be gone via free agency.
  22. Here is my Gibson take: I've never been a Gibson guy and I really hoped the Twins would trade him to Colorado several years ago when that was a rumor. I did not ever think he was a front line or mid rotation starter. I have hoped to be proven wrong about this for years and I will always root for him to succeed as long as he is on our team. I have greatly enjoyed his recent success and I too hope it is a sign that he has finally gotten over that hump but I am not going to bet on it. It is still just a hope because he has too much history to deserve more than that. Gibson has the natural ability to succeed, but he has not shown me the mental fortitude or the confidence in his stuff that he needs. Even recently, I still see him at times trying to nit pick. If he can learn (which is possible) to be confident, aggressive and resilient as he ages, he could develop into a solid 3 in a rotation. I still hope he does! Frankly we lack depth so I have no problem letting him come back next year and fight for a spot in the rotation but he needs to EARN that spot with the mental side of the game.
